Fiduciary Responsibility

• Chapter Board members act in trust as the responsible parties for the obligations of the chapter

• Chapter board members should always act in the best interest of the membership as a whole

• Review and approve budgets to fulfill NAWIC’s core purpose and chapter strategic plan which should support and help fulfill NAWIC’s national strategic plan

• As Chapter Treasurer you are the custodian of the chapter funds

• Ask for documentation for expense reimbursement

• Seek out and follow best practices for transparency of chapter finances

• Be prepared to answer questions from fellow Board Members, Chapter Members and your NAWIC Director

• You are member of the Budget Committee along with outgoing Treasurer and incoming President (outgoing President should give valuable input)

• Together prepare a realistic budget based on past experience and goals to accomplish

• Present budget to the Chapter Board of Directors for approval

• Communicate approved budget to the chapter membership

• As Chapter Treasurer part of your duty along with your entire chapter board is to understand the importance of making money for your chapter and overseeing how the chapter makes and spends money
