Nutritious hotmeal for the needy

After I retired, I had few friends and no income. I felt empty

and anxious about my life. Now, I eat out at the Hotmeal

Canteen, which not only provides me with nutritious,

cheap meals to reduce my financial burden but also gives

me a sense of self-worth. I am now a volunteer at the

Poverty is a conspicuous social problem in Hong Kong despite the city’s relative prosperity. To help relieve the burden on less fortunate people, CLP Power teamed up with Po Leung Kuk to provide a CLP Hotmeal Canteen service in Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing. In June this year, CLP Power and Po Leung Kuk set up a fourth CLP Hotmeal Canteen in Sham Shui Po to provide more dietician-supervised hot meals to people in need at a nominal cost.

CLP volunteers regularly serve up meals to diners at the canteens and organise special themed activity day every month to encourage Canteen users take part in exercises and social activities, delivering warmth and care to the community.

Since its launch in 2011, the CLP Hotmeal Canteen programme has served more than 570,000 meals.

Members of the public can make donations to support the service. For every HK$500 you donate, a person in need can enjoy hot meals for one month.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the CLP Volunteer Team. The CLP Volunteer Team is one of the biggest corporate volunteer teams in Hong Kong with more than 1,600 members. It has provided a diverse range of services to the community since 1994 and is committed to using its power expertise to deliver warmth and care to underprivileged people.
