According to Merriam-Webster, domestic violence is the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another; or a repeated or habitual pattern of such behavior.

Statistics

A survey from 1995-1996, which include the 50 states and District of Columbia, said nearly 25% of women were raped or physically assaulted by a current or former spouse.

About 1.3 million women are assaulted physically by an intimate partner yearly in the United States.(Tjaden & Thoennes)

In 2000, about 1,247 women were killed by abuse from an intimate partner. (Rennison)

In 2002, about two-third of women were killed by an intimate partner by using a firearm. (Violence)

About 1,006,970 women were stalked yearly and 81% of those women that were stalked and were physically assaulted.

The most common abuse is sexual assault. Women are most likely to be sexually assaulted and they make up about 78% of the victims of rape and sexual assault.

Men are almost always the perpetrators of sexual abuse against women. Of these acts, these such were committed to a woman since the age of 18. 100% of rapes, 92% of physical assaults and 97% of stalking acts.

Conclusion

Victims of domestic abuse is usually women.

There are different types of abuse. Women shouldn’t let themselves be

treated with no respect. We should STOP violence against

women.
