TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Technical specifications of transparent polymers are the first element to consider in judging their behaviour during application. Transparent semi-manufactured products such as polyvinylchloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), reinforced polyester with fibre glass (PRVF) and several translucid semi-finished products have been intentionally disregarded. The latter, with exposure to the atmospheric agents in the medium latitudes of Italy, presents a degradation of the optical (opacification) and mechanical (brittleness) specifications higher than CAODURO’S quality requirements.

MONOBLOCK DOMES

“VELA” and “DIAMOND” domes are manufactured by thermoforming first quality Polycarbonate (PC) sheets, U.V. rays protected in order to guarantee longer duration against yellowing, neutral transparent or opal white diffusing colour and, upon request and according to quantity, they can be also supplied in Polymethylmethacrilate (PMMA).

Their peculiar shape, which ensures strength and a better light output, makes our domes a really effective system of natural zenithal lighting.

The availability of different solutions in single, double and even triple wall allows installation of our domes in the most different environmental conditions. Thanks to this range of solutions, we can solve the problem of thermal insulation that is becoming more and more important in terms of energy saving. And that’s the main reason why Caoduro created the new “M series” double wall skydome: the external wall in monolithic thermoformed sheet (single or double) and the internal in alveolar PC, thickness 10 or 16 mm. Assembling has to be done on site by means of plastic sealing joint.

In case a very good shock resistance is requested, besides strength, light diffusion and thermal insulation, our Polycarbonate (PC) domes are the ideal solution. Similar to those in Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), the ones made of PC guarantee a very good heat resistance in all those situations where the safety of people and things is a determinant factor which cannot be ignored.

Our domes can be installed on concrete upstands, prefabricated upstands made of polyester resin reinforced with fibre glass (PRVF) or on metallic ones. They can be provided with manual, electrical or smoke exhausting opening systems. They can be employed in private dwellings as well as in industrial buildings. A safe product which is guaranteed in time.

FIBRE GLASS PREFABRICATED UPSTANDS

Prefabricated upstands are realized in polyester reinforced resin with white pigmented fibre glass on the internal side. They are insulated with rigid expanded polyurethane panels, density 33±1 kg/m3.

Thanks to the easy and quick laying and the high light output given by the shape, PREFABRICATED UPSTANDS are particularly adapted and convenient as an alternative to traditional concrete walls, which most of the times are difficult to realise especially if circular.

This type of upstand is shockproof, weather resistant and of stable dimensions. They have been studied to gather possible condensation water. Plenty of dimensions and heights are available.

Similar to standard upstands, they are 35 cm high.

Particularly indicated for a continuous natural or powered ventilation to change air without traditional opening devices.

Tangential aspirator has a capacity of 240 m3/h, by means of monophase shielded motor (230 Volt 37 Watt) that can work even at temperatures from -30°C to +50°C.

Air flow is protected by a plastic anti insect net.

This type of upstand can be used with continuous skylights. It is realised in polyester reinforced resin with fibre glass and white pigmentation on the internal side and studied to gather possible condensation water. They are insulated by means of expanded rigid polyurethane panels with density 33±1 kg/m3 and realised with modular elements so that long elements can be obtained.

4These upstands have been studied to be employed with continuous skylights, thermoformed tunnels and curb-mounted tunnels. They are realised in polyester reinforced resin with fibre glass and the internal side is white. A collecting gutter gather possible condensation water. Continuous upstands are insulated by means of expanded rigid polyurethane panels with density 33±1 kg/m3, and realised with modular elements in order to obtain any lenght.

These upstands are realised with ONDA EUROPA profile 177/51 pitch. Laying operations are very easy thanks to the limited area of intervention, that’s why they are particular adapted to be inserted in ondulated roof coverings. Standard height is 20 cm and their structure is similar to that of standard upstands. As for the monoblock upstands, various opening systems can be applied to get a perfect ventilation and heat and smoke exhaustion.

7 CAODURO®

PREFABRICATED FRETTED UPSTANDS are realised in polyester reinforced with fibre glass resin and the inner surface is white varnished. They are insulated by means of expanded rigid polyurethane panels density 33±1 kg/m3. Suitable for double slope metallic roofs, the external side is in grey colour treated with proper waterproofing special compound. The inner part is white varnished and smooth for a better light output.

All types of opening devices can be applied to these upstands in order to get the best day to day ventilation or heat and smoke exhaustion.

Suitable for bended roofs with panels ray 330, 375, 600 cm type “Elycop/Fratelli Re, Rexcop, Archimede, Italpannelli, etc”.

They are realised in polyester reinfoced with fibre glass resin and white varnished on the inner side, density 33±1 kg/m3 thickness from 4 to 8 cm. The external side is rough, grey colour, properly treated with waterproofing compound. All the opening devices can be applied for day to day ventilation and heat and smoke exhaustion.

9 CAODURO®

This type of upstands is suitable for monoblock domes and continuous skylights. They are made of galvanised metal plate and, upon request, they can be produced with different materials such as aluminium or pre-varnished steel. The height and truncated-pyramidal shape can vary to fit the stope hole. Thermal insulation is guaranteed by an insulating high density self-extinguishing panel. The panel can be employed either in bituminous waterproofing sheets or synthetic type.

Upon request, finishing plates can be provided to complete the upstands.

ANTIFALLING GRIDS are essential in case safety has to be guaranteed against falling from the roof, while ANTINTRUSION GRIDS are against external intrusions. Laying operations are done together with upstand laying (metallic or prefabricated) so as to obtain a single not removable element. They are made of metallic zinc coated galvanised mesh with rods or metallic grids Keller/Orsogril type, fixed to the covering by means of perimetrical profiles. 3 Metallic upstands with inclined blades are designed for a continuous natural ventilation.

They are made of zinc coated, pre-varnished steel or aluminium and are resistant to external solicitations and adapted to be installed outside.

An anti-insect net is installed to prevent possible intrusions.

The peculiar shape and dispositions of the external blades makes the upstand watertight.

The dimensions of these upstands are made upon request and they can be coupled to all monoblock domes, continuous skylights and tunnels.

MANUAL OPENING DEVICE Monoblock domes and skylights can be provided with manual opening devices installed on any supporting structure.These devices are made of aluminium profiles and can fit circular, square and rectangular shapes. A screwjack actioned by a crank handle of different lenghts open the dome. According to the skylight dimensions, it is possible to install one or two screwjacks connected to each other and actioned by a single crank handle. For dimensions see pages 4 - 5

This type of opening device is used exclusively to allow occasional access to the roof in case of maintenance, for example. The opening is actioned by the inside with a locking/unlocking handle provided with one or two gas springs according to dome dimensions. These gas pistons help the operator to open the dome up to 80-90 degrees.Upon request the opening from the outside is available. For dimensions see pages 4 - 5

MANHOLE OPENING DEVICE

Monoblock domes and continuous skylights can be provided with electrical opening devices on any supporting structure. These devices are realised for circular, square and rectangular shapes with aluminium profiles. The opening works thanks to one or two electrical monophase 230 Volt motors, IP 65, shielded and provided with relay. The end stroke and motor-save system are included. For dimensions see pages 4 - 5

New patented opening system named “Bound electric opening device SG” increases the range of opening devices giving greater attention to resistance and particular conditions.

BOUND ELECTRIC OPENING DEVICE “SG” Constituted by frame and counter frame made of rectangular shaped extruded aluminum tubular profile not anodized.The device is realized without making any welding and is provided with aluminum hinges, die-cast angle bars, weather stripping and accessories to realize the fixing to the concrete up stand, to the metallic base or to the prefabricated basement made of polyester resin reinforced with fiber glass.It is moved by an electrical monophase 230 Volts motor which is provided with overload cutout limit switch and relays.

Depression tight of the frame is always guaranteed by 3 keeping points:• when closing, by the motor and n° 2 additional

springs with max wind speed 32 m/s (115 km/h).• when opening, by the motor and n° 2 stainless

steel wires with max wind speed 24 m/s (86 km/h)

OPENING DEVICES


Natural heat and smoke exhaustion devices (ENFC) in compliance with UNI EN 12101-2:2004, are manufactured by CAODURO® with the commercial name of “SMOKE-OUT” in order to respect actual normatives.

“SMOKE-OUT” are made of first quality materials and the functioning is operated by means of compressed CO2 gas.

Strong and reliable, it assures the opening even in the most difficult wind and snow conditions. The frame is closed in two points, and this make the system stable and guaranteed against accidental openings.

SMOKE-OUT OPENING DEVICES

5Similar to the previous ones as far as aluminium frames are concerned, the functioning is different.

Continuous skylights up to 350 cm can be provided with partial opening devices with one or more pushing points.

For longer openings up to 14 meters, the system is composed of a central motor and racks that open the skylight up to 70 cm approximately.

A 230 or 24 Volt motor allows, by means of a connecting rod, the mechanical movement of the racks.

Weather detector patented system “GUARDIAN®”, to be applied to motors of electrical opening devices, allows automatic closure of skylights in case of wind or rain even if the opening has been done from a remote button.

With this application rooms underneath are preserved from possible atmospheric events and skylights protection is guaranteed in case of strong wind.

Applying CAODURO® MDR2 module to motors, it is possible to control opening and closing from a remote control.

“GUARDIAN®” features:

- case for assembling on DIN bar;

035 FX CONTINUOUS SKYLIGHTS

Available in single, double or triple wall by thermoforming flat compact sheet of Polycarbonate (PC), U.V. rays protected in order to guarantee longer duration against yellowing, neutral transparent or opal white diffusing colour and, upon request and according to quantity, they can be also supplied in Polymethylmethacrilate (PMMA). The new “M series” is also available for continuous skylights: the external wall in monolithic thermoformed sheet (single or double) and the internal in alveolar PC, thickness 10 or 16 mm. Assembling has to be done on site by means of plastic sealing joint. Each intermediate element, 180/270 cm long, is realised with stiffening ribs placed every 30 cm. Cutting the ribs in the centre, it is possible to obtain sub-multiple 30, 60 or 90 cm.These skylights are surely the ideal solution to take advantage of natural zenithal illumination. Their modularity allows to have very long holes.For a correct assembling they need a perimetral upstand which can be prefabricated PRVF, metallic or made of concrete, thickness 7,5 cm finished with possible sheathing. Moreover, to complete the skylight, electrical opening devices, partial openings or smoke exhaustion systems can be integrated.

Each intermediate element 180 cm long is realised with 7 stiffening ribs every 30 cm. Cutting the ribs in the centre, it is possible to obtain sub-multiple 30, 60 or 90 cm.

These skylights are the ideal solution in buildings with natural condensation problems to exploit natural zenithal illumination. The modularity allows to have even very long holes.

For a correct installation they need a supporting perimetral upstand which can be made of fibre glass, metal or concrete with a finished thickness of max. 7,5 cm.

Moreover, the skylight can be equipped with electrical, partial or heat and smoke exhaustion opening devices.

1 “Shed” skylights, realised with the highest material quality, were conceived to satisfy even the most particular requests.

They are realised with sandwich corrugated or smooth pannels, externally finished on both sides with pre-varnished zinc coated steel sheet and poliurethane high density panel in between.

Front closure is constituted of a metallic frame with alveolar polycarbonate sheets, opal or transparent UV rays protected. Base, lateral and top finishing are made of pre-varnished metallic sheet.

Upon demand it is possible to apply various opening systems constituted of aluminium pre-anodised or varnished extruded profiles with sealing gaskets.

They can be operated in different ways:

1. By one or two electrical motors 230 Volt stroke 30 cm.

2. By one central electrical motor 230 Volt or 24 Volt with rack system stroke 70 cm.

3. ENFC systems in compliance with UNI EN 12101-2:2004.

1This product is still CAODURO®’s pride as regards the technology applied to thermoplastic products. Unique of its kind, this type of skydome is self-supporting with no need of metallic profiles up to 800 cm. The mathematical model for the statical study of the dome was conceived by the Engineering Department of the University of Padua.

Since the dome is completely transparent, light passes uniformly and thanks to the absence of metallic ribs there are no compatibility problems between different materials due to the thermal expansion at different temperatures, and therefore thermal bridges can be avoided.

The central top ring can be provided with electrical opening devices in case day to day ventilation is requested. Electrical motor and wires are visible. Connection and positioning of wires are on electrician charge.

The single wall solution is recommended where there are no particular problems related to thermal insulation (external structures etc.), or double wall for coverings to be installed on buildings having a controlled climate, where a low thermal K factor reduces the thermal dispersion improving the comfort inside.

Standard sheet colours are opal white or clear transparent.

1 Manufacturing consists in heat-bending high quality Polycarbonate (PC) sheets, U.V. rays protected in order to guarantee longer duration against yellowing, neutral transparent or opal white diffusing colour and, upon request and according to quantity, also in Polymethylmethacrilate (PMMA). The technology developed by CAODURO® provides that the semi-manufactured product is heated with hot-air into the oven at a temperature which is higher than that of vitreous transition of the polymer and then placed onto a mould. The result does not show any stretched area: there is a constancy in thickness which cannot be compared with that one of products obtained by other thermoforming process. The impact strenght is consequently constant throughout the product; the relevant value for the same thickness is surely higher than the one referring to a cold-bent sheet. In fact, it is common knowledge that the thermoforming process induces a partial orientation of the polymer molecules. During the moulding process stiffening ribs are realized every 90 cm in order to make the tunnel self-supporting; thanks to the absence of metallic ribs it is possible to avoid thermal bridges and possible condensation problems. The tunnel is so completely transparent and the spreading of light is uniform. Cutting in the centre of intermediate ribs, in case of A=300 cm, it is possible to obtain elements 60 or 90 cm long.

They are manufactured by thermoforming flat sheets in 2 different shapes according to the tunnel width: smooth and slightly rounded or moulded with reinforcing ribs. Moulded ribs improve rigidity of the element, making it stable and safe also for the biggest dimension.

“STANDARD” curb-mounted skylights have been conceived to offer to consultants a mass-produced article.

First quality materials, modular flexibility given by the aluminium rib structure together with a pleasant aesthetic aspect, make this product the right choice for every type of application. Available in single or double wall, polycarbonate PC or acrylic PMMA, or, upon request, structured polycarbonate.

“M” dimensions can vary from 100 to 200 cm.

As for thermoformed skylights, curb-mounted skylights can be provided with partial manual or electrical opening devices, or whole opening devices with electrical motor and racks up to 14,44 m and 70 cm stroke.

1Curb-mounted pyramids are realised only with pitches inclined at 45°. The system is composed of aluminium ribs and moulded sheets having romboidal shape with pyramidal triangles, single or double wall for a better thermal insulation. They can be realised in polycarbonate PC or acrylic PMMA, transparent, opal white, or bronze. Ribs are made of aluminium alloy extruded and protected by means of galvanisation or by epoxy powder coating.

Curb-mounted pyramids with flat sheets are similar to the previous pyramids as far as the structural part is concerned, but differ in terms of sheets.

For this type of application ALVEOLAR PC sheets are used, opal white or transparent, in order to give more rigidity comparing to a compact flat sheet.

Ribs are made of aluminium alloy extruded and protected by means of galvanisation or by epoxy powder coating.

CURB-MOUNTED STRUCTURES

The system, totally developed by CAODURO®, is composed of aluminium ribs and cold-bended sheets in order to provide the gretest flexibility and design freedom.

There are no particular limitations as far as arch height, distance between the ribs and sheet thickness are concerned. Standard production is composed of aluminium extruded ribs, protected by means of either electrolitic deposition (anodisation), or epoxy powder coating. Different colours are available as well as the superficial metal finishing.

1 - Methacrylate monolithic sheets Methacrylate is usually employed in monolithic sheets obtained by original synthesis monomer which guarantees a perfect transparency. Acrylic sheet has a good performance when cold-bended. However, during the bending process, a certain degree of tension occurs in the sheet. This charcteristic has to be taken into consideration when choosing the right thickness according to the radius of a tunnel.

All these details allow to offer a roof cover with cold-bended sheets less tensioned and as a result, with technical characteristics with longer duration.

TUNNELS, CURB-MOUNTED DOMES AND CURB-MOUNTED “PAGODA” SHAPED DOMES

1 2 - Polycarbonate monolithic sheetsCAODURO’®s tunnels not only provides for the use of acrylic sheets but also for the use of polycarbonate in both versions: monolithic or alveolar. When speaking of monolithic polycarbonate, the same limits for methacrilate have to be taken into consideration.

3 - Alveolar polycarbonate sheets For alveolar extruded polycarbonate, due to its particular rigid structure, (double wall with ribs) attention has to be paid not to use cold-bended sheets with inferior bending rays than those recommended (150/175 times the thickness of the sheet), so that the tensioning stress does not affect on mechanical performances of the product. Alveolar polycarbonate, moreover, presents a marked decay of optical characteristics (yellowing, frailty) when used on medium latitudes of our country. This is the main reason why standard CAODURO® production with this type of sheet is exclusively employed upon specific request and at least the external wall is U.V. rays protected.
