PVHS Reunion Group:

I want to send a special thank you to the PVHS Reunion

Group for all of their hard work and devotion in publishing

the Newsletter and planning the Reunion. A special thanks

to George Davis for his visualization, planning and foresight

in forming the reunion group: to Marilyn and Sherry for

their assistance, hard work and devotion in helping with

George to carry out the plans. I have served on many com-

mittees of service and know the energy and continued hard

work that it takes, and I appreciate your services so very

much.

It has been wonderful to hear about many school friends of

past years, and I am looking forward to the Reunion and see-

ing many school pals. Sincerely,

How Does 2010 Sound?

A SUCCESSFUL BEGINNING

What can a person say when they have seen the wonderful results of the past year and a half? The PVHS Reunion

was all I had hoped it would be. Walking into the room and seeing all the black and red tablecloths with the floral/

cardinal centerpieces made by Louise and Pat, just set the mood for what was to come.

Seeing all the smiles and happy memories people were sharing warmed my heart. This is what I had envisioned when

we first started the planning in the spring of 2007.

Sisters visiting with an aunt they hadn‘t seen in approximately 50 years and former classmates making that connec-

tion once again. WOW! These are just a couple of the moments from this special weekend.

And the great music, under the leadership of Ken and Don Vogel, added to the festivities. Plus the memorabilia dis-

plays, class pictures and great food.

Also, the great door prizes. A lot of talent came from PVHS. Beautiful paintings, needlework, books, etc. Thanks to

all of you who donated your special talent to this event.

A special thanks to the Class Reps and others, for all their work and input. It was a ―team‖ effort and we succeeded.

I could go on talking about this special reunion, but I will leave all of you with this thought. If you

were able to attend, it was great seeing you, and if you were unable to be with us this year, you were

greatly missed. Remember this is just the ―Start of Something Big‖.

But just maybe: WE‘LL SEE YOU AGAIN

IN TWENTY TEN!!

Dear PVHS Friends,

I have wanted to write for a long time to tell a little bit of my life‘s journey after leaving Prospect

Valley High School.. The reunion was such fun and I am glad that I was able to make it. Thanks to all

who helped coordinate the event – and for what it is worth, here‘s a little bit about my life.

In the fall after graduating from PVHS I started at C.U. in Boulder. In 1965 I started work at First

National Bank in Boulder as a computer programmer. I liked the work and ended up staying 5 years.

During my life from 1960 to 1981 I was diagnosed manic depressive/bi-polar and experienced numer-

ous psychiatric hospital stays. After the first one at age 20, I joined the U S Marine Corps Reserves to

become a man and attended weekend meetings and summer camps for the next five years. One day

sitting in the marine base library, surrounded by books on philosophy and science, the revelation that there had to be an

intelligent designer to explain the wonders and complexity of the universe came to me. I remember feeling glad at the time

though I didn‘t have any knowledge of WHO this abstract designer was. Anyway, science was still my passion and that,

plus my parents‘ (Mel and Grace) financial support, got me through college. In the spring of 1966 I graduated with a B.A.

in science from C.U. and from the marines with a corporal E4 title.

The summer of 1971, two roommates and I traveled into Mexico and points further South. Getting back into the States,

I had another breakdown along with hepatitis from eating raw oysters in Miami. In Colorado Psychiatric Hospital, after

resisting the doctor and a hypodermic needle, I was put into a padded room for five days. I have absolutely no memory of

those 5 days. My conscious memory came back to me as I sat on the room‘s cement floor with a man gently giving me a

shave. I think about this time I got an idea of who the WHO of 10 years previous was from the tender care I received there.

Jeremiah 31:3 says ―The LORD hath appeared from afar unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love:

therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.‖ The bank graciously let me come back to work. I lasted another year

and a half before I left my job and family to go on a long backpacking trip into Glacier National Park, and ended up alone

and paranoid in L.A. I think I picked up some bad spirit then. Getting flown back to Denver, I worked for my Dad man-

aging an apartment and helping him fix up a HUD home. My younger sister (Kathy) and her family moved into that house

a number of years later. I think Judy was in California on an Air Force Base with her husband, Byron Cook. My brother

Gary was getting started in college in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Then I spent a couple of years working on a boy‘s ranch in Texas. These were kids from parents who attended a church

in Houston, but who were having behavior problems. From there I moved into a men‘s group home in Denver. A co-

worker my Mom sent over led me to pray to receive Christ. Life improved, I joined a local church, met my wife to be, Jan,

and got a good job that lasted 14 years at a printing company: First seven in Lakewood and the next seven years in Phoe-

nix. Our beautiful daughters, Laura and Betsy, were born in Colorado. In Arizona I was also hospitalized but had an ex-

cellent psychiatrist who knew anti-depressants weren‘t the whole answer. My job in Arizona ended in 1989 when our com-

pany was bought out by another printing company. I also experienced divorce soon after.

I moved into a home for homeless people for 8 years run by a wonderful lady. She required us to go to church some-

where on Sundays and we had to make a good effort to get a job. While living in the group home, I went to a revival meet-

ing in a church with about 400 people. At the end of the service the preacher said: ―There is someone here with a manic-

depressive spirit.‖ For a long moment nobody else moved so I knew it was me and had to raise my hand and go up front. I

received prayer and council. I have not had any hospitalizations or meds since. I worked on a grounds keeping crew in

Sun City for 2 years. After that I became a school bus driver and nursing home bus driver. In 1993 I started working at in-

house care giving and have pretty much stuck with that. I usher at a Bible church here in Phoenix and enjoy belonging to

a small group within where we can open up and get to know each other. I am very thankful to God for all the Christian

friends and mentors He has sent to me, and that my daughters and their families live close, and that my ex-wife and I have

remained friends. And I am also very thankful to Stephens Ministry for the help I‘ve received there.

CONGRATULATIONS to George, Marilyn, and Sherri and all the other helpers for making such a grand get-together

for all us country folk….I‘m looking forward to seeing you again as well as more times to visit my Mom and relatives in

Colorado.

Glenn Lewton Class of 1936

Glenn “Scotty” Lew-ton died at home on Sunday, September 21, at the age of 91. Glenn was born September 13, 1917 in Valley Falls, Kan-sas, to F. C. (Cliff) Lewton and Leota

Bilslend Lewton. In 1919, he and his family moved to the Bennett area where they established a fam-ily farm that remains in operation to this day. Glenn graduated from Prospect Valley High School in 1936 and continued farming until 1942, when he joined the Army Air Corps. He spent most of his mili-tary service at Gowen Field, Idaho, where he was a B-17 gunnery in-structor. After the end of the war he returned home and began farming in partnership with his brother, Harold Lewton and in later years his son Curtis. In 1949, he married Jean Morgan of Sterling, and they settled close to his childhood home where he continued to farm until his death.

Ode to Gloris Sargent

She was a Sargent, the sweet, laughing girl we knew as Gloris.

Sadly, her time on this earth ended and she went on before us.

But how can we forget the many lives she would embrace

With her caring and tender ways and her ever cheerful face?

Her spirit remains as we remember our sister, cousin and friend

Who wanted so much to join the reunion before her untimely end.

Those of us who knew Gloris felt her presence there as we met

And greeted old classmates whose memories we wouldn‘t forget.

We missed her, her laughter, her remembrances of days gone by

And her clear memories of the times when we would laugh and cry.

Yes, her memory of the smallest detail was something to behold

For she remembered so many of us, and oh, the stories she told!

We remembered Gloris as around the reunion tables we met.

So many good things about Gloris we vowed never to forget.

Some knew her better and spoke of the special times they shared

With her, a person they remembered as someone who really cared.

Gloris cared so much for others until she just no longer could go on.

And though her body was weakened, her spirit remained so strong.

It‘s that spirit that we all felt as we gathered together at reunion time

As we shared all of our memories in song, verse and in rhyme.

Yes, Gloris was there; maybe not in body but in spirit for sure,

And we all vowed together that her memory would endure.

So please remember Gloris, whose story and spirit will never end.

She was our classmate, a sister, a cousin and a true friend.

Now to her heavenly home she has finally found her way,

And we know that her pain and suffering have all gone away.

We rejoice and celebrate the life of our dear loved one, Gloris,

Who touched so many lives before she went on before us.

Rest in peace and love, Gloris.

We love you.

Another Crazy Idea!

Dear Marilyn & Sherry,

Hey, hang on to your hats, another crazy idea is coming

your way!!!! Remember how much fun those "Planning

Meetings" were? It was fun just having mini-reunions,

right? Well, we were thinking of another reunion in 2010,

right??? We need to have a major planning meeting,

right?? Hang on, this may seem strange at first, but think

it through my friends.. What if we have a planning meeting

(open to everyone who wants to attend) sometime in

March, maybe the middle of March..?? Hang on!! Let's

have the meeting in Laughlin, NV. The hotels and food are

really reasonable starting in March. Gene Calvert lives in

Bullhead City, (across the river from Laughlin, NV). He

could help us coordinate getting a block of rooms and etc.

He told me before that they run airline specials from Den-

ver to Laughlin. It's a two day trip by car. Gas is going to

be much cheaper!!

We could have a meeting and spend the rest of the time

playing. They have casinos, river boat rides, dinner cruises

and jet boat rides down river to Lake Havasu. They have

all kinds of things to do. I've been on the riverboats and

they are a blast. If you have never been to Laughlin, it is a

really fun place to spend 2-3 days. They cater to seniors.

It's not the high intensity of Las Vegas and a lot less expen-

sive.

This would give people a chance to plan and save for this

little get-a-way. We could probably draw some Colorado

members to go. It's close to Arizona, California and Ne-

vada. I‘m sure we would draw from AZ. I could see

Teddy Z. coming from CA plus a few more. I'll bet we

could draw 20-25 people. This could be like a "senior sneak

trip", hahahhaa

I think a lot of people think like we do. We are getting older

and it's time to start having more fun!! If we gave people

plenty of time to think about it we could have a fun group.

The cost would be reasonable compared with most destina-

tions. I think it should be mandatory for the cheerleaders to

attend!! I'll bring the convertible!!! (I'll send some web-

sites if interested.

George

This sounds great to me. I have been wanting to go to

Laughlin for many years. Gene and Vonnie keep after me

to come. Great Idea. Count me in. Marilyn

Crazy idea?? Not! Fantastic idea! Count me in! Sherry Hey George, Sounds great to me, if some are interested, I could check things out on this end. Don and Polly Fergu-son were down here while we were in Colorado and I believe he said the round trip airfare, with 3 nights in the Riverside Resort, was around $180 on a charter that comes in here from Denver. (continued)

It is easy to check at www.riversideresort.com and check the flights. Need to book way ahead of time, cause they fill up way ahead of time. Sometimes Harrah's does this too. Let me know when you want it checked out and anything else I can do. Gene

Senior Sneak Trip!! Anyone interested in a Laughlin planning meeting please

contact Marilyn or Sherry. We can talk about another reun-

ion in 2010 and have fun planning at the same time. All

expenses (transportation, lodging & food) would be at your

own expense. We would decide what hotel we would meet

at and you would make your own reservations. We want to

employ the KISS theory and keep it simple.

If we have enough interest in the meeting, we will decide

on the time and place based member response.

A Good Time Had By All!!
