documentary costumes
TRANSCRIPT
Initial notes
The costume of our presenter is important as it has to comply with am lot of different aspects that make up our documentary. These being:
Has to fit with the conventions of the documentary
Has to relate to the target audience
1st Example : Formal (David Attenborough, Louis Theroux)
These usually take the form of documentaries aimed at much older member of the public. Documentaries that usually cover affairs that require a certain level of formality are usually the ones which involve the presenter being dressed smartly. This is to add to the reality and seriousness of the documentary as you couldn’t have a presenter describing the situation in Syria while wearing his best Fila tracksuit
2nd Example : Informal (Nick Grimshaw, Ellie Taylor)
These usually occur in slightly less serious documentaries directed at a much younger target audience. This is so this younger audience can relate to the presenter and become more indulged with the program their watching.
What we had to consider
Given the context of our documentary being fairly interchangeable between age groups it means deciding on costume was very hard. Although we wanted to be taken seriously we didn’t want to be seen as a stuffy 'Boring' documentary so we had to make sure our presenter had a casually smart way of dressing... 'Smasual'
