New QAD News: Risk in the Supply Chain, the Latest DSCP and Success in Auto

If you blinked you might have missed QAD in the media this week. First, Luc Janssen who is our VP of R&D for manufacturing and supply chain, had an article posted in Manufacturing Automation titled Risk in the New Global Supply Chain. In the article, Luc delves into possible changes in import tariffs and trade rules being pursued by the new US administration and how that impacts global supply chains. He then expands that notion into the larger question of risk management in the supply chain, including MMOG/LE in automotive. He concludes with, “Senior management must be committed to identifying risks within their respective companies, and then taking actions proportionate to those specific risk levels.”

QAD also announced the general availability of QAD DSCP 2017. Luc was also quoted in this press release, saying, “This latest version features many improvements and extended capabilities that make QAD DSCP more comprehensive and even easier to use.” QAD DSCP 2017 includes a new web portal experience, several functional improvements and a new pre-configured version to speed along implementation and adoption.

Finally, QAD also issued a press release that 80% of the top 20 automotivesuppliers and half of the top 100 suppliers use QAD solutions. The release also cites that QAD runs at over 1000 automotive facilities in 58 countries. This time the quote was supplied by QAD automotive lead, Terry Onica, who said, “The high percentage of automotive suppliers who use QAD

solutions is a testament to our experience and expertise in the complex, global and ultra competitive automotive industry.”

Luc on Geopolitical Uncertainty and Supply Chain Risk

A couple of weeks ago our R&D lead for manufacturing and supply chain, Luc Janssen, was published in Manufacturing Automation in an article about supply chain risk. Soon thereafter, Luc also posted an article in EBN on supply chain risk, titled, Trump & Brexit: Adding Risk in the New Global Supply Chain.

In this piece, Luc delves into Trump administration activities and the pending impact from Brexit on global supply chains. He cited the new administration’s intention to renegotiate NAFTA, its threat of punitive duties on China and the withdrawal from the Trans Pacific Partnership.

What will the impact be? “These proposed changes bring global supply chain risk and planning to another level. Risk, delays and additional burdens in the global supply chain are likely to rise considerably. This will cause buyers to temper their choices to more secure and dependable sources – even if some cost savings must be sacrificed.”

The solution? Tools that help manage industry risk assessments like MMOG/LE, that help manufacturers improve forecasting, that help manage quality and trade compliance (QAD TMS). And he emphasized that supply chain management ought to be a board level priority.

COMPETITIVE BITS C-Bit: Infor Announces Next Release of Infor VISUAL

Infor released version 9.0 of VISUAL, an ERP solution targeting “order driven manufacturing companies.” Infor VISUAL provides a view of the order lifecycle that allows users to determine production status, identify potential issues and dynamically adjust schedules. Infor highlighted the following new features in this release designed to address certain manufacturing-specific needs during the order process:

•    New lifecycle notifications •    Enhanced audit capabilities •    Measure lead-time performance across product lines and functional areas •    User defined dashboard analytics

Not heard of Infor VISUAL? It came about when Infor acquired Lilly Software over a decade ago. While on the surface VISUAL sounds like a cross between a MES and a planning/scheduling workbench, it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities. Heretofore, Infor has paid little attention to VISUAL since the acquisition and it is not a “global” solution, but Infor has been putting more R&D and marketing weight into the product recently.

While we do not see VISUAL entering mainstram competition with QAD – the Infor ERP products we primarily

9

Page 10: MARCH 04, 2005 - QAD · Web viewC-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?10. C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, ... it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities

compete with will remain LN and M3 – VISUAL might begin to sneak into smaller manufacturer deals where a single or a few sites and single country are involved.

C-Bit: Microsoft Announces Sales Reorg and Layoff, Even More Focus on Cloud

According to reports published this wek by CNBC and other outlets, Microsoft is reorganizing and downsizing its Sales team. Microsoft is cutting thousand of jobs, mainly in Sales and mainly in non-USA locations.

In the current sales structure, too many deals go through the hands of too many sales and marketing people, employees say. Therefore, this reorganization is viewed as a removal of management layers and bureaucracy. Recently, Microsoft retrained a significant portion of Sales to shift from a traditional software sales model to cloud sales. Thursday’s announcement reinforces these efforts and fits with Microsoft’s emphasis on a cloud-first strategy. Clearly Microsoft is looking to reduce COGS.

Key takeaways: It appears that Microsoft’s direct sales efforts will increasingly focus on Azure. Furthermore, the downsizing of direct Sales outside of the USA suggests even more dependence on partners – which often plays into QAD’s hands given the range of and often lack of manufacturing depth in Microsoft’s indirect channel. That said, by extension Dynamics 365, which combines Office, CRM and Dynamics AX (which competes with QAD), may receive more direct Sales attention particularly in the USA.

C-Bit: Infor Announces Artificial Intelligence Platform via Infor CloudSuite

On July 11, Infor announced an industry-specific artificial intelligence platform for Infor CloudSuite applications. It is described as a platform that “mines data and uses powerful machine learning to improve processes such as inventory management, transportation routing and predictive maintenance.” Additionally, the platform is expected to leverage supplier, logistics and finance data from the GT Nexus Network.

The announcement also highlights the platform’s ability to support conversational interactions. Examples of what users could ask the platform include:

What is the accounts receivable balance for XYZ Corp? Create a requisition for widget 1234. What is the inventory availability for item A321?

Infor indicated that certain components are currently available including inventory management for healthcare, price optimization for hospitality, and forecasting and promotion management for retail.

Key takeaway: While Infor announced that some capabilities are available now, they all reside within Infor’s higher priority industries that do not directly compete with QAD. Since Infor LN and Infor M3 fall under the industry-oriented Infor CloudSuite brand, we should expect some of these capabilities filtering into these brands during the next 12 -24 months. The big question is how much of this announcement is hype compared to public evidence of true artificial intelligence? Initially, it looks like this platform is providing additional visibility and analytics via some of Infor’s acquisitions including GT Nexus, Birst and LogicBlox

C-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?

SAP denies any wrongdoing, but based on a report in fin24 it nonetheless “has suspended South Africa’s management team after a #GuptaLeaks exposé by AmaBhungane and Scorpio revealed it allegedly paid a

10

Page 11: MARCH 04, 2005 - QAD · Web viewC-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?10. C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, ... it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities

Gupta front R100m in kickbacks for state business.” Based on the report, the team put on leave include SAP’s managing directors of Africa and South Africa, the CFO of South Africa and the COO of Africa. SAP has launched its own investigation into the matter though it claims that the charges are unfounded. The report, however, states that, “In the view of the investigative units, the terms suggest "a thinly-disguised kickback arrangement: If the Gupta company were the 'effective cause' of SAP landing a Transnet contract worth R100m or more, it would get 10%.”

C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, Lower Margin

SAP posted Q2 and H1 fiscal 2017 results last week, see this slide deck for details. Q2 highlights:

Revenues grew 10%, with 9% growth in overall software (cloud and license) and 29% in cloud. Note that the Concur acquisition has completely washed through the financial cycle, so SAP cloud growth rates, which had been more dramatic in 2015 and parts of 2016 because of Concur, now reflect organic growth.

Regionally, Q2 cloud growth was relatively disappointing in the Americas, up only 19%, whereas EMEA grew 48% and APJ 52%. Overall cloud bookings grew 33%.

Q2 expenses grew dramatically, up nearly 22% and nearly $900M using IFRS, resulting in operating profit decrease of 27% and lower operating margin and earnings per share.

In the earnings call SAP CEO Bill McDermott focused on non-IFRS results which showed a small increase in margins. He also touted S/4HANA growth, saying it now had 6300 customers and stated that, “Customers are going live with S/4 in as little as six weeks.” SAP also slightly increase guidance for the rest of the fiscal year.

When pressed on the Americas cloud number, McDermott stated, “So I think where you're going to see in Q3 and Q4 is substantially accelerated growth. There is no issue with the business in the cloud in the United States…It's in really good shape.”

Takeaway: The stock market didn’t quite buy SAP’s quarter, with the share price down 2% in trading post-earnings release. Nonetheless, QAD should expect to see S/4HANA increased as part of the competitive mix over the coming year, particularly once S/4HANA for manufacturing goes fully live in the cloud; currently it is only fully available on premise.

C-Bit: Oracle Expanding Cloud Footprint in Europe

Oracle is hiring approximately 1000 new employees in EMEA to support the growth of cloud. The company is looking to add personnel in sales, management, finance, marketing and human resources. The move comes after the company reported 58 percent year-over-year revenue growth in its cloud businesses, but a 2% decline in sales in EMEA year-over-year. "Our cloud business is growing at incredible rates, so now is the right time to bring in a new generation of talent," said Tino Scholman, Oracle RVP of Cloud Computing in EMEA.

Takeaway: Oracle has been underperforming in EMEA, particularly compared to SAP which has had strong recent results in that region. It will take Oracle a while to not just hire more feet on the street in EMEA, but also to bring them up to speed. If Oracle executes however, and develops a clear game plan on how to sell Fusion and NetSuite through the same direct channel in EMEA, we should see their competitiveness increase in EMEA slowly over the next 18 months – but there are many ifs.

C-Bit: Plex Now Promoting MMOG/LE

11

Page 12: MARCH 04, 2005 - QAD · Web viewC-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?10. C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, ... it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities

Plex recently added MMOG/LE content to their site. As a reminder, the Materials Management Operations Guideline / Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/LE) is a comprehensive self-assessment required by many OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers globally. Automotive suppliers use MMOG/LE to evaluate production and parts, service and warehousing processes. It looks like Plex now realizes the important role MMOG/LE plays within the automotive industry.

Key Takeaway: When competing against Plex in automotive, be aware that MMOG/LE may be a key topic. Despite Plex’s recent increased attention to MMOG/LE, QAD’s MMOG/LE, support is a key strength and a strong differentiator for QAD. Consider:

QAD, as a member of the global AIAG/Odette MMOG/LE Work Group, has participated in the development and implementation of MMOG/LE for over 10 years

We are an MMOG/LE trainer on behalf of AIAG and Odette in North America, Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe

QAD provides an MMOG/LE solution sheet which maps all 197 criteria to QAD solutions Our unique EOB Automotive Process Maps based on MMOG/LE help increase individual and

departmental understanding of the key MMOG/LE assessment points Within the “Introduction and Instructions” section of the published MMOG/LE document, QAD’s

Automotive Process Map is depicted as the “Supply Chain Process Model” QAD’s MMOG/LE Q-Scan has helped many automotive suppliers globally to improve processes

and/or obtain Ford’s Q1 award

Safe Metal are a long time user of QAD and were one of the first French clients to migrate to Enterprise Edition. During their most recent customer engagement in late 2016, the QAD team met with the Quality team at Safe and identified a need for a new QMS solution. The client wanted to deploy a single integrated Quality solution across their global network of sites.

An initial project costing was delivered to the customer in early February, followed by a detailed two day on site workshop with the Safe Quality team. This was delivered by QAD France's Quality Champion Dominique Ribault, and focused on Safe's specific quality requirements.

The project scope will include a number of QMS modules - Inspection, CAPA/NCR and APQP. The solution will be delivered to two French sites as phase 1 before being rolled out to Safe's remaining global sites in Spain, Mexico and China as subsequent phases of their quality project.

The final piece of the QMS puzzle was a successful reference visit to SMR in Spain who provided a great overview of how they are utilising QAD QMS.

After the excellent work by our Business Consulting, Services & Sales teams we received the signed paperwork late last week for the QMS project.

What's Next: The preliminary project work will begin almost immediately on signature as Safe are keen to get moving on QMS. After a successful pilot the additional sites will be deployed in subsequent project phases. Stay tuned for more news soon!

Rapelli

Vertical: F&B

Project: Upgrade Order

Location: Stabio, Switzerland

Customer since: 1998

Page 16: MARCH 04, 2005 - QAD · Web viewC-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?10. C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, ... it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities

Rapelli is a Swiss (Italian speaking) company leader in the production of fresh food and was founded in 1929.

Rapelli boasts a wide range of products for all meals of the day. Its core competence is delicatessen such as salami, salametti and cured ham. They produce more than 9,000 tons of food each year. Other product lines include ready-made meals such as polenta and lasagne or prepared dishes such as tartare, carpaccio or vitello tonnato round out Rapelli's offering.

Rapelli SA belongs to ORIOR Group, an internationally operating Swiss food producer with their HQ in Zurich (German speaking Switzerland) with a historical penchant for SAP.

Rapelli has been a QAD customer since 1998 and have been very happy with their solution. QAD & Rapelli were once again facing a delicate situation, because the version on which they had been successfully relying so far, 2010 SE, has reached archived status and it's going to be retired next year. This was another big chance for our unnameable German competitor to accelerate what in Rapelli for the last 10 years has been considered an inevitable conclusion - the deployment of SAP.

The new Orior IT director, in order to minimise QAD related costs was evaluating either an acceleration of his group SAP project or a technical upgrade to SE 2014.

With a combination of excellent work from the QAD Italy sales, services and pre-sales team along with the support of our sponsors within Rapelli we were able to persuade the Group IT Director that an upgrade to QAD 2017 was the best solution for Rapelli.

What's Next: The project will begin immediately as Rapelli are keen to deploy the additional new functionality within the latest iteration of QAD. Stay tuned!

changing to SAP would have been too high and the interoperability between all sites would have been inefficient.

Erwin Hymer Group

Vertical: Automotive

Project: Cloud Conversion

Location: Kitchener, ONT, Canada

Why QAD Cloud?  After two failed SAP implementations at sister-companies owned by Erwin Hymer Group in Germany, they felt confident in their decision to move ahead with QAD.

Renolit Group

Vertical: Industrial

Project: ERP + QMS order

Location: Beijing, China and Thansau, Germany

Customer since: 2006

The RENOLIT Group is an international leader in the manufacturing of high-quality plastic films and related products for technical applications.

18

Page 19: MARCH 04, 2005 - QAD · Web viewC-Bit: SAP Kicking Back in South Africa?10. C-Bit: SAP Q2 – Healthy Growth, ... it actually has ERP features including basic HCM and financials capabilities

This independent family-owned business, which has been setting benchmarks for quality and innovation for 70 years, now employs a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales entities. At Renolit Medical, where the deal was closed, product lines include a complete range of medical grade plastics including PVC, PP, PE and EVA based flexible films, tubings and compounds.

The ERP deal

Renolit Bejing Medical is a plant of four manufacturing sites with one sales office and had never before used an integrated solution. With almost no scanning facilities, quality assurance was completed manually and only a part of the finance system was digitally supported.

When the plant was acquired by Renolit it was clear that they needed to implement a fully supported ERP system, but while there was no question that system would be QAD, the team still had a hard time convincing the Chinese site about the benefits of greater transparency and standard operating procedures.

A Qscan was conducted and all findings were presented back in July 2016 to the Renolit team. Both companies came to an agreement and the project kicked off.

The QMS deal

Manufacturing was restored to Renolit's German plant after a period of it being an administration site, meaning that the need to be FDA compliant became a priority. With Word, Excel and Mails all being manually controlled, it was clear that they would never pass an audit and so with the group already using QMS, QAD began discussions about requirements for Germany in 2016.

With the implementation of standard processes, Renolit will be able to comply their standards and increase productivity, leaving them free to concentrate on optimizing the plant, reviewing their manufacturing processes and in turn their very old QAD version.

These deals are a perfect example of the great teamwork between EMEA and APAC.

What's Next: There are more sites on the agenda so stay tuned: 2 more sites in Beijing, China, 1 joint venture in Changzhou, China, 1 new implementation in Spain, Villatuerta

Beaphar was established in 1943 by the miller/entrepreneur Bernard Aa. The trend-setting development, production and marketing organisation is still family owned and remains to be very passionate about pets.

Today, Beaphar's product range includes well over 800 different products to help make pets happier and healthier. With a complete range of health and care products, medicines and foodstuffs distributed in 86 countries worldwide and with their own sales offices in for instance in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Poland, Hungary, Belgium and Norway, Beaphar is a proud leader in both the European and global pet care markets.

The roll-out of Beaphar's core model began a while ago with the successful upgrade of Beaphar's HQ in Raalte, Netherlands to QAD Enterprise Applications 2010 EE.

Now they are ready for the next step. Beaphar and QAD have jointly developed an executive road map for the coming years in order to be more closely aligned with their strategic goals as well as drive increased benefits from the original investment in QAD.

Beaphar is currently in the midst of significant change to their business. They have identified a need for a webshop with a focus on the consumer market, extension of their warehousing capabilities as well as a recent acquisition of a company that specialises in equine products (a completely new market for Beaphar).

They will now start with a technical upgrade to the latest version of QAD along with the implementation of Qxtend to make ensure that the base elements are in place to support their new online consumer channel.

What's Next: Once Beaphar has the technical fundamentals in place they will start looking at other functional area's including EAM & QAD Automated Solutions. Stay tuned!

VERTICAL: Remanufacturing for Automotive and Industrial

WHY QAD: F2J Holding runs four other businesses in the automotive sector supported by SAP cloud and on premise solutions in two locations and SilverProd solution in remaining two. Two reman facilities they purchased from Caterpillar have been running QAD for the past 10 years and being upgraded to 2014 SE in 2016.

The ERP selection process was driven by three main criteria:

1. Short 90 days TSA to separate systems from the Caterpillar network

2. Supplier's expertise in remanufacturing and automotive markets

3. Cost effective proven solution delivering security and agility to the growing business

QAD came up on top for all three criteria demonstrating superior capabilities and strong commitment to delivering the project on time and on budget. As a result QAD moved two on premise installations to QAD Cloud and went live on July 4th, 2017.

Motherson Sumi Systems Limited

THE COMPANY: Motherson Sumi Systems Limited (MSSL), the flagship company of Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, is engaged primarily in the manufacture and sale of components to automotive original equipment manufacturers.

VERTICAL: Automotive (APHQ SAT development account)

THE DEAL: Samvardhana Motherson International Limited chooses QAD for it’s flagship company MSSL (Motherson Sumi Systems Limited), by implementing at the polymer units of MATE (Motherson Automotive Technologies & Engineering) in India and Hungary.

THE COMPETITION: In-house ERP from MIND and SAP

THE STORY:

About 6 months ago, MATE contacted us for evaluating QAD as a potential solution. Their attitude towards QAD was of “yet another ERP vendor” and they were exploring other solutions with SAP & their own in-house developed eMPRO solution from MIND. Their requirement was to get a solution that was globally proven especially in the auto industry, and which had the capability to support their newly acquired business in Hungary / support for Hungarian localization requirements. With a back office in India, and plant operations in

Hungary, they wanted a solution that was easy to use and capable of meeting all their business requirements. Also, they wanted a solution which could address future needs around supplier collaboration, Quality Management, EDI, shop floor automation & data collection, asset management, etc. With the various features in QAD product portfolio, they were able to find a solution that met their requirements. We pointed at SMR as an internal reference within their group.

Price negotiation was a huge stumbling block. With support from management, we were able to provide a strategic offer to match their expectations.

We positioned QAD Cloud and they were not able to get any go-ahead due to internal security considerations which made the evaluation process longer. They also wanted only 10 users to start, with possible expansion to 30 users within the next year. Since they needed to move quickly and support their business, Shiv engaged directly at the top-most level with Mr. Rakesh Khurana, the COO of MIND, positioning QAD Cloud Franchise option which can be used as a win-win arrangement between QAD, MIND and MATE. On the back of this creative arrangement, we asked Mr. Khurana to introduce us to the group company’s leadership for a strategic discussion at the parent level for a bigger user base across the group’s several other entities outside of SMR.

Based on our consistent engagement, MATE agreed to buy all 30 users in one go, although On-Premise. The next round of meetings with SMIL management & MIND will be to discuss how the Cloud Franchisee model can be implemented for a bigger number of users across the group.

PAIN POINTS SOLUTION ADDRESSED: Operational readiness and financial regulatory compliance for Hungarian localizations.

The Deal: Warehouse Inventory Management with BOOMI

Vertical: Fashion

Customer since: 2013

Why Warehouse Inventory Management with BOOMI: Kendra Scott has a need to link their warehouse system to QAD in an effort to keep QAD as the inventory system of record. It is imperative to KSD that QAD be the single source

of truth. The combination of BOOMI/QXtend and the expertise of QAD’s Interoperability team has allowed KSD to meet the expectation.

Perkins

THE COMPANY: Caterpillar IPSD (Perkins), a subsidiary of Caterpillar, is one of the world’s leading suppliers of gas and diesel engines. It serves the construction, power generation, materials handling, agricultural, marine, and general industrial markets.

VERTICAL: Automotive

THE DEAL: QAD first became involved in the project in August 2016 to interface software components from 3rd party Vendors to a QAD eB2 solution. The first phase of the overall project is to provide a Business to Consumer (B2C) solution which is now Live. This was done through:

US webshop (Bridgeline iAPPS) US-based third party logistics supplier (United Parcel Services - UPS - in Kentucky) Credit Card payment processer (Cybersource) Bank of America Third party Inventory Replenishment planning tool (Syncron) Exporting Invoice/Tax information to KPMG to allow them to produce the US Tax Report on behalf of Perkins

The interfacing strategy was to use QAD EDI for communication with iAPPS, UPS and Syncron. Automated credit card payment matching to invoices in accounts receivable is accomplished by a custom development from GRC India. Tax Report data is extracted using a customized development provided by QAD UK.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Work has already started on the Business to Business (B2B) phase of the project that will bring Perkins US and Canadian distributors onto the solution. There are also some enhancements to the B2C solution that will be delivered in parallel. The plan is to roll-out the solution to other regions during 2018.
