marinas. The Boat Repair Yard slowed (almost could be considered “closed”) its
functions to allow infrastructure improvements to occur – these improvements are
still under way as of early January. No definite date of the completion of water
and electrical upgrades, along with resurfacing the drive-thru and houseboat park-
ing pads, is determined yet. The best prediction is “soon.”
TLMC has drafted a set of policies and procedures regarding the Boat Repair
Yard. Also drafted is a list of “Boatyard Rates & Fees.” To find out how to obtain
Happy New Year, Houseboaters!
Looking Back on 2011
2011 can be labeled “The Year of Transition.” Our
former concessionaire, Water Resorts, Inc., left the lake
– with no sadness from houseboaters. Our new conces-
sionaire, Twin Lakes Management Company (TLMC),
became the managing body for both lakes McSwain and
McClure, as well as their respective park facilities and
a copy of these fees, regulations, and policies, you may contact J Mills at [email protected] or call him at
209-354-2871 (work) 209-386-3004 (cell).
Poker Run 2011 was a huge success. The Lighted Boat Parade on the 4th of July was considered one of
the best since we’ve been doing these parades (for 6 years now).
Finally, 2011 was a banner year for lake elevation! Many houseboaters enjoyed the spacious, more cove-
accessible areas available for their summer recreation fun.

Looking Ahead to 2012
As of this early January, rain/snowfall is practically nonexistent. Will we have an extremely dry year . . . after enjoy-
ing so much moisture last year? At least the lake is still at a high elevation.
Merced Irrigation District is dedicated to bringing the “Twin Lakes” into the 21st century as recreation facilities. Yet
economic times have restricted growth to the degree desired. Houseboaters who are selling their investments know this fact
very well. There are advantageous buys available, but this is one time the fish are biting more than buyers.
Our VHF radio communication channel on the lake is changing from 68 to 71. Lake Don Pedro uses channel 68, and
their communications and ours often conflicted. At one time we thought to try channel 72 for ourselves, but an alert house-
boater noted that 72 is the channel designation used by Moccasin Point boaters (upper Lake Don Pedro). By switching to 71,
we should avoid the conflict that happens when conversations “walk over” one another.
As you all know by now, our MID permit fee has remained the same, as well as vehicle/boat gate entry fees. Howev-
er, both the fees for second vehicles and pets increased.
We all are wondering about our mooring fees, but that decision will probably occur by May. So far I have heard no
word or rumblings – let’s keep our fingers crossed that mooring fees don’t increase.
People are already planning and talking about Poker Run 2012 – BUT we have no chairperson to run the event. I urge
you to consider running this event for these reasons: (1) You will get to set the date (that fits your schedule!); (2) The pro-
cess is so well organized and set-up by those who have chaired the event before (most recently, Jim and Nelda Miracle) –
you will have a smooth time just following their guidelines; (3) You will be rewarded by the HBOA Board with a wonderful
gift for your time and effort; and finally (4) You will become a “rock-star” celebrity on the lake! How can you resist all the-
se reasons? Call or e-mail me or any Board member to say YOU are doing it – if we receive too many volunteers clamoring
to be the chairperson, we will establish a lottery to determine who will be the honored chosen one to CHAIR our POKER
RUN 2012.
Our Website (www.lakemcclurehboa.com)
If you surf the Web, be sure to check-out our site. Board Director and Web Manager, Chris Holbrook, has recently
posted a news alert from Marina Manager Jim Nudo concerning pump-out availability at McClure Point Marina (obviously
this affects houseboaters in Temperance, the Spillway, and on the dock). The pump-out equipment will be revamped, start-
ing January 17. Thus, no (free) pump-outs may be done at McClure Pt. Marina for the time it takes to upgrade the equip-
ment . . . about 2-to-3 weeks. During this period the pump-out barge can be scheduled to come to your mooring site for the
standard fee of $60. If an emergency pump-out is requested, the fee is $100.
Our Next Meeting Date and Location
Our General Membership meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 22, at 10 a.m., at
LaNita’s Mexican Restaurant. Address for LaNita’s is 2682 Shaffer Road, Atwater. Come early
for a breakfast buffet, which will start at 9 a.m. Cost is $10/person.
Special Announcement: Wil Hunter, MID Trustee, and possibly other representatives from MID and
TLMC will attend this meeting. My advice ~ don’t miss this meeting!
Please accept my best wishes for a prosperous and successful 2012 for all of you!

Search Is On For Lake McClure Family Favorite Recipes
Jan Reynolds of Los Gatos has been a houseboater for over 17 years. She is also a good cook
and a collector of recipes. She now wants to combine these attributes and produce a cookbook of
favorite houseboat recipes and she is seeking your help.
Do you have a favorite recipe that you use on your houseboat? Any kind will do—barbeque,
grilled steak, breads, desserts, side dishes, even the ubiquitous hot dog or hamburger? Jan wants
you to share it with her. She would also like to include with your recipe any stories that go with it.
How did it come about? Where did it come from? What makes it special? Jan would also like to
have such particulars as the name of the person submitting the recipe, the name of the houseboat
that this houseboat calls home, and any other information that makes the recipe special, including a
photo of the dish if possible.
If you have a recipe that you would like to have Jan include in her collection, and possibly a
forthcoming book, please send it to her at [email protected] or via snail mail to Jan Reyn-
olds, 14345 La Rinconada Drive, Los Gatos, CA 95032.
Here is a chance to support one of our fellow houseboats and earn a little fame for yourself at
the same time. So get out those recipes and share them with Jan. Then sit back and start dreaming
about our upcoming summer on the lake.
