Help setting up and cleaning up is always appreciated! Please send your ideas for additional activities to [email protected].

Watch the Mail Centre for up-to-date information about Community events.

Neighborhood Watch Committee: Neighborhood Watch static cling window decals are available in the Clubhouse. Also, remember to contact the office to take advantage of the trash can service if you will be unavailable to pull your garbage can in on garbage day. You will be responsible to call the office upon your return to retrieve your garbage can. You may wish to make note of the number on the can so you pick up yours and not your neighbors..

Repairs/Architectural Review Committee: All requests submitted for repairs to individual units or buildings are reviewed by this committee. Requests to change plumbing, wiring or heating that involve infrastructure within the walls or hard surface flooring (wood, vinyl, etc.) must be submitted to the Management Office. The office forwards the requests to the Repair Committee. After reviewing the request, the committee sends their recommendation to the Board of Directors for approval or denial. The homeowner will be notified of the Board’s decision. Requests received by the Management Office no later than the 1st Wednesday of each month will be reviewed by the committee at their regular monthly meeting (the 2nd Tuesday of each month).Landscape Committee: I know it is still raining, but I have noticed the leaf buds have begun to swell, the Sarcacocca is starting to smell, and the Camellias have burst into bloom! That means spring is just around the corner!

There are many tasks that will begin in the next two months. For the past month we have been doing detail clean-ups, grass and perennial cut back, and dormant winter structural prun-ing of trees and shrubs. Soon, we will begin mow where we can. We will intentionally mow short to remove some of the thatch and trapped leaf litter that has accumulated over the winter. This will help the health of the lawns in the summer, because the mowers will be raised above the level of the grass crowns. We will be on a bi-weekly mowing schedule through mid-March, and will then begin weekly mowing visits. Please be patient. There are some areas we may not be able to mow because of saturated conditions. We will do our best to mow the lawns with as little “rutting” as possible.

Keep an eye out for birds --- and lots of them. It may signify that we have Crane Fly larvae in the lawns. All lawns, throughout the Portland area, have Crane Fly. I personally do not like to treat for them. Many times the lawns will recover just fine as the weather improves (this is true for moss in lawns as well). I would rather re-seed and mulch a thin lawn than broadcast insecticides throughout the community. That being said, I understand that sometimes Crane Fly populations can reach a level where chemical control is necessary. If you hear about a need to treat for Crane Flies from me, it is probably bad!

Plant Health Care tasks in the next two months include: pre-emergent weed control, plant fertilization, continuing dormant pruning and bed grooming, moss control in bark dusted beds, and post emergent weed control (weather permitting).

EVOS and Q residents mark your calendars!!! The Landscape Committee will be meeting with Willamette Landscape Company in the Club House at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Willamette will be discussing plants, landscape, and other topics that have an affect on our landscape. Refreshments will be served.

Enjoy the sights, colors, and smells of spring. Bev Graver, Landscape Committee

Just for Fun:

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The man says, “A hamburger, fries and a coke,” and turns to the ostrich, “What’s yours?” “I’ll have the same,” says the ostrich. A short time later the waitress returns with the order “That will be $9.40 please,” and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.

The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, “A hamburger, fries and a coke.” The ostrich says, “I’ll have the same.” Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.

This becomes routine until the two enter again. “The usual?” asks the waitress. “No, this is Friday so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad,” says the man. “Same,” says the ostrich. Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, “That will be $32.62.” Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. “Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?”

“Well,” says the man, “several years ago I was cleaning the attic I found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.” “That’s brilliant!” says the waitress. “Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you’ll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!”

“That’s right. Whether it’s a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,” says the man. The waitress asks, “What’s with the ostrich?” The man sighs... pauses and answers, “My second wish was for a chick with long legs and who agrees with everything I say.”
