4. Scientists have discovered a link between deforestation and global warming. Write a paragraph that explain what is meant by the terms deforestation and global warming, then describe the connection between the two.

Deforestation is the removal of large numbers of trees from a forested area.

Global warming is the rise in Earth’s average temperature over time. It is caused by increased carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere.

Deforestation increases global warming since the CO2 stays in the atmosphere and it is not removed by plants throughout photosynthesis.

Trees can use carbon dioxide during photosynthesis to make carbohydrates. The carbohydrates are used to make new cells and tissues. These tissues last for the life of the tree, keeping the carbon dioxide “stored” for a long time.

5) Some scientists are urging that immediate action be taken to stop activities that contribute to global warming. Discuss the effects of global warming on the environment and describe some human activities that may contribute to it.
