Title: Visual Discomfort Detection on Facial Expression Analysis using Deep Learning Technique

Authors: Ricky Christanto and Shaou-Gang Miaou

Abstract: Visual discomfort usually occurs when the visual demands of the task exceed the capability of the human visual system. In our case, we investigate the visual discomfort caused by the excessive disparity of stereoscopic display. The picture quality of an object determined by the human visual system can be distorted when visual discomfort occurs. Therefore, visual discomfort assessment is necessary if we want to evaluate such quality more precisely. Analysis of facial expression is often used by the expert to extract visual discomfort information. An automatic visual discomfort detection system based on human facial expression is proposed to reduce the cost of hiring human experts. The effective landmarks generated around the eyes on human facial features are used to reduce computational cost. We adopt a deep learning technique called Long-term Recurrent Convolutional Networks (LRCNs), which is applicable to visual time-series modelling. The variation in landmarks from frame to frame is used to train the system and build a visual discomfort model based on the human facial expression. The video sequences containing human facial expressions and the corresponding discomfort values are collected as datasets for training and testing. For the sake of real-time application, a simple neural network architecture and a moderate image size are considered. The model is used to detect and produce a five-scale visual discomfort score. The accuracy and computational cost of the proposed system are evaluated and compared with the previous work.

Title: A New Visual Analysis Approach to the High Dimensional Data

Authors: Meina Song, Zhihui Pang and Haihong E

Abstract: With the advent of cloud computing and big data era, high-dimensional data sets are widely available in real life. Because of the increase of data dimension and complexity, it is difficult to carry out comprehensive analysis and exploration for high-dimensional data. Therefore, we propose a new visual analysis

13

2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Digital Image Processing (CGDIP 2018)

approach to high-dimensional data. Firstly, we use the principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce the dimension of the high-dimensional data. Then, we use clustering algorithm to classify the reduced dimension data, and each class is rendered independently with different color. Finally, we use the edge binding algorithm to perform a visual clustering. The curves in the same classes are converged and in different classes are separated to alleviate visual confusion. In order to analyze the visualization results better, we also provide the visual interaction technology of "brush". The experimental result shows that our approach can help users to explore the implicit feature patterns quickly and is effective for visual analysis of large-scale high-dimensional data.

Title: Research on image segmentation method based on consistency theorem and merging criterion

Authors: Jia-min Lu, Hao-fei Li, Di Yuan, Ya-wen Miao and Yi-fan Lei

Abstract: This paper takes Hongze lake as an example to explore a novel image segmentation method. We use the regional consistency theorem and the merging criteria to merge discrete pixels of similar features into smaller regions. Thereby, the lake area can be represented by a number of pixels, and the area's change trend can be measured by simply counting the pixel numbers before and after. By using this algorithm, it is possible to skip the cumbersome steps of calculating the area and obtain the area change trends rapidly, as it avoids a large number of duplicate calculations and reduces the situation of missing extreme pixel points. In addition, it saves the required time on manual processing and increases the processing efficiency greatly. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the lake area data with the yearbook.

Title: Surface Coverage Classification of UAV High Resolution Image Transmission Lines Corridor based on Total Convolution Neural Network

14

2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Digital Image Processing (CGDIP 2018)

Authors: T Guo, L Xu, W Wang, Y Wei, Y Yang, J Gao and S Jian

Abstract: In recent years, UAV imagery has been applied more and more to the work of power line inspection. Surface coverage classification is a key step. Because of the size and amount of data of UAV high-resolution images, the accuracy requirements of traditional classification algorithms can no longer meet the practical needs. In this paper, a pixel level classification algorithm based on full convolution neural network is proposed. The total convolution neural network model reduces the error caused by other forms of deformation such as image translation, scaling, tilting and so on. In the application of UAV image, the total convolution neural network is used to classify the image, and the high dimensional information extracted from the coiling layer is used to learn the feature of the image fully, and the accuracy of the classification is improved. By comparing with the random forest algorithm, the advantages of the full convolution neural network in the classification of the surface coverage of the UAV transmission line corridor are verified, and the reference value is provided for the electric patrol line and the image classification of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Title: Circle-Landmark-Based Machine Learning Localization Algorithm

Authors: Zerui Cheng, Zizhao Huang and Jiahui Wang

Abstract: With the continuous increase of freight volume, efficient automated guided vehicles (AGV) have been gradually taking the place of human beings as the mainstream of cargo sorting. Most AGV cars use QR code positioning system for its low-cost and convenience. However, this kind of systems will limit the movement of AGVs, which leads to extremely low space utilization. To solve this problem, a monocular visual positioning method based on machine learning, Circle-Landmark-Based Machine Learning Localization Algorithm is presented. The marker of the positioning system is a novel type of self-designed special ring marker, which uses two different colors to represent the binary code. The figure of the coded marker in the image taken by AGV can present the position of the marker and orientation. Meanwhile, it is able to predict the

15

2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Digital Image Processing (CGDIP 2018)

relative distance between the marker and the object (AGV) by GBRT algorithm and get the relative angle in the images directly. Finally, combining with the information got from the coded marker and predicted results, the object can calculate the specific location itself by triangular relations. As a result, the average absolute error of the system is low to 0.34cm in 2m*2m site while the maximum error is 4cm. In terms of the marker, the decoding accuracy rate is up to 93.1%. In order to increase the practicability of the system, we distinguish serveral colors in indoor environment in HSV color space, which extremely enlarge the number of makers

Title: Detecting Computer Vision Syndrome using Eye Blink-An Experimental Evaluation

Authors: Qurban A Memon and Mohammad Y Hassan

Abstract: Nowadays, people spend more time using computers, laptops, and smartphones, etc., that causes decrease in eye blink frequency. Since eye blink spreads tears on eye cornea to moisture, the reduction in blink rate results in eye redness and dryness. In this work, eye blink detector is reported that is utilized to prevent eye dryness and redness. A number of existing eye blink detection schemes are surveyed and then a solution is proposed based on analysis. The proposed solution is based on histogram back projection. The proposed approach detects opening and closing state of the eyes and then if blinking rate is determined to be less than normal, it raises flag for computer vision syndrome. The approach is tested on different data sets under various lighting conditions and its performance is compared and analyzed.

Title: An Efficient Prediction-Based Tree-Traversal Method for Ray-tracing

Authors: Yun-Nan Chang

Abstract: This paper proposes an efficient tree-traversal scheme in order to accelerate the ray-tracing procedure for graphics rendering. To render a graphics scene, there are many rays of different categories such as primary, shadow or refraction rays that have to be traced. Because nowadays the triangles in the graphics scenes are mostly organized in a tree structure in order to reduce the number of ray-triangle intersection tests, the tracing of a ray has to first traverse the tree to find those leaf nodes that are intersected by the ray. It can be observed that the neighboring rays normally exhibit high coherence such that they will have similar traversal footprint of the tree. Therefore, the key idea of our proposed traversal scheme is to skip some intersection tests by predicting ray-node intersection results based on the previously traced ray. In our scheme, one additional prediction flag is appended to the data structure of each node of the tree. While traversing the tree, the prediction flags will be checked to decide whether to skip the intersection test of some internal nodes of the tree. At the same time, the flags will also be updated to reflect the traversal result of the current node. Our experimental results based on several benchmarks show that the average saving of the intersection count is about 33%, which can lead to about 20% saving of the overall rendering time based on the pure software implementation. The proposed scheme can also help reducing the memory access amount of the tree data.

Title: Tracking and Disabling Smartphone Camera for Privacy

Authors: Qurban Memon, Khawla Al Shanqiti; AlYazia Al Falasi; Amna Al Jaberi and Yasmeen Amer

Abstract: With people's easy access to various forms of recent technologies, privacy has decreased immensely. One of the major

17

2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Digital Image Processing (CGDIP 2018)

privacy breaches nowadays is taking pictures and videos using smart phones without seeking permission of those whom it concerns. This work aims to target privacy in the current mobile environment. The main contribution of this work is to block the smart phone camera without damaging the smart phone or harming people around it. The approach is divided into stages: body area detection and then camera detection in the frame. The detection stage follows pointing of laser(s) controlled by a microcontroller. Tests are conducted on built system and results show performance error less than 1%. For Safety, the beams are devised to be harmless to the people, environment and the targeted smart phones.

Title: A Proposed Model for Javanese Manuscript Images Transliteration

Authors: AR Widiarti, R Pulungan, A Harjoko, Marsono and S Hartati

Abstract: Manuscript transliteration is generally conducted by reading the manuscript and then writing the results to another piece of paper or storing them on a computer using a specic text-processing program. The procedure of transliteration presupposes that the workers fully understand how to read the manuscript, that no consideration is given to the length of the work, and that workers will concentrate suciently to minimize errors in rewriting. There are 3 main steps for Javanese manuscript image transliteration, i.e., segmenting manuscript, transliterating of Javanese script letters or numbers, and grouping syllables. The implementation of the proposed model was tested on a Javanese manuscript with catalogue number SB.141 and at a condence level of 95% and resulting in a success rate between 69.20% and 87.29%.

Title: Design of Anti-distortion Two-dimensional code on Prism and Cylinder Combination Surface based on Pre-stretching

Authors: Fucheng You, Yue Cao, Hechen Gong, Chenwei Zhang and Liqiang Peng

Abstract: Two-dimensional code has shown its impressive performance on mobile payment and advertising marketing. To ensure that the two-dimensional code is correctly identified by recognition devices, the traditional two-dimensional code must be attached to the surface of plane. However, if the code attached to the surface of cylinder or prism carrier, the image of the normal two-dimensional code will be distortion because of image projection, which will lead to identification problem. To this end, we propose a novel approach of design and identification of anti-distortion two-dimensional code on prism and cylinder combination surface based on pre-stretching, to address the challenge of identifying a two-dimensional code on prism and cylinder combination carrier. According to the spatial geometric relation of the two-dimensional code carrier, pre-stretching the normal two-dimensional code image via inverse mapping to obtain the pre-deformed two-dimensional code that will be printed and then pasted on the surface of the carrier. Specifically, the image of the pre-stretched two-dimensional code in the projection plane of the acquisition device is just as the normal two-dimensional code, which will be correctly identified. Experimental results show that the two-dimensional code after pre-stretching could be identified by normal recognition devices.

Title: Information Visualization of Patents based on Generative Topographic Mapping (GTM)

Authors: Byungun Yoon

Abstract: New technology opportunity has been regarded as a critical activity to derive a technological competitive edge of companies in a turbulent business circumstance. Although a lot of studies have suggested information visualization methods to analyze technology data, little attention has been paid to present detailed directions of technology development with specified characteristics of technology. Thus, this research aims to suggest a systematic approach to visualizing patent information such as patent documents and citation relationship for technology forecasting. For this, first, important keywords that explain functions, materials and so on in collected patent documents are extracted by text mining. Thus, all patent documents are converted into keyword vectors that can structure the contents of patents. Second, patents are visualized in a two-dimensional space and then vacant cells are identified with their estimated keyword vectors by generative topographic mapping (GTM) which can infer the features of vacant cells with an inverse function. Third, promising vacant cells can be chosen by link prediction tools that can connect existing cells with potential but not-yet-existing cells, because many vacant cells will be potential candidates for developing new technologies. A machine learning method such as support vector machine (SVM) is applied to perform the link prediction. We compare the performance of several link prediction techniques. Finally, the results of prediction are validated by comparing the predicted cells with actual developed cells. Three indexes such as precision, recall and lift are calculated to investigate the results of link prediction. Then, this research discussed the implications of using the information visualization and link prediction methods for technology forecasting. In order to illustrate the proposed approach, the water purification patents were collected and analyzed. Thus, the results of this research can help R&D managers plan and evaluate R&D projects for technology development

Abstract: On the basis of apparent tracking theory of discriminant model ,we put forward a vehicle video tracking improvement algorithm based on the random forest classifier to seek a better classifier confidence figure, so that we can improve the tracking accuracy. After getting the degree of confidence of the rectangular image block predicted by the classifier, the pixels and the distance information between rectangular image blocks have different impacts on the degree of confidence. According to this feature, using the pixel confidence estimation method based on weighted distance information to improve the confidence estimation accuracy of pixel, and then improve the tracking accuracy.

Title: Ship target detection algorithm for maritime surveillance video based on Gaussian mixture model

Authors: Zuohuan Chen, Jianxuan Yan and Zhen Kang

Abstract: The paper presents a vessel target detection algorithm to achieve the maritime visual surveillance, which aims to reduce the influence of clutter that exists in the background and improve the reliability of ship target detection. In the proposed detector, the main steps including background modeling, model training and updating and the segmentation of foreground, are all based on Guassian Mixture Model (GMM). By exploiting the characteristics of GMM, we simply determine whether new pixels, in the video, belong to the foreground. Having modeled surveillance region, we roll out the moving ship detection using background subtraction, segmenting the ship target by the continuity of the adjacent frames. The target precision rate of the algorithm is 97.29% and the false alarm probability is 22.83% in the experiments. Comparing with other algorithms, the results show that this algorithm can not only improve target precision rate, but also reduce false alarm probability, and greatly overcome the influence of large amount of clutter on the detection of moving ship objects in video background, effectively restraining the influence of the noise from the dynamic scenario transformation.

Title: Single Image Haze Removal with Improved Atmospheric Light Estimation

Authors: Yincui Xu and Shouyi Yang

Abstract: A novel method for atmospheric light estimation has been proposed in this paper. The new estimation method, called Estimation Based on Patch Size Adjustment (PSA), firstly segments the sky region of dark channel through threshold segmentation method and then adaptively adjusts the patch for dark channel until the estimated atmospheric light is right in the segmented sky region. Experimental results show that this method is effective even when the intensity of some scene objects is

22

inherently higher than the atmospheric light and no shadow is cast near them. However, PSA spends a lot of time on adjustment. In order to improve the time efficiency, another simplified method, called Estimation Based on Sky Region Segmentation (SRS), is proposed by directly estimating the atmospheric light in the segmented sky region. The test results show SRS is almost as good as PSA on haze removal effect. Both methods have advantages on improving visual effect and objective indicators of the haze-free images.

Title: A Data-Driven Approach for 3D Human Body Pose Reconstruction from a Kinect Sensor

Authors: Li Yao, Xiaodong Peng, Yining Guo and Hongjie Ni

Abstract: In the study of virtual fitting techniques, human body modeling has always occupied a very important position. Whether a model that is roughly consistent with users can be established has a direct impact on the fitting experience of users. Based on this, we propose an automatic human body pose registration algorithm which can efficiently construct a posed model using priori data and a single Kinect sensor, and provide a good foundation for the later shape registration. Because of the complexity of the human body, there are so many methods that just reconstruct a human body model but no rigged animation skeleton inside. To solve this, we use SMPL which is a recently published statistical body model to fit 3D joints acquired by a Kinect sensor. And finally we project the posed model to the corresponding person in the color image to improve the fitting experience. Our experiments show that the speed and the estimation error of the algorithm are within the tolerance of virtual fitting.

Title: Research on 3D Human Body Deformation Based on Biharmonic Weights and Skeleton Skin

Authors: Li Yao, Yining Guo, Xiaodong Peng, Hongjie Ni, Yan Wan and Cairong Yan

Abstract: A new 3D human body deformation algorithm based on bounded biharmonic weights and skeleton skinning algorithm is proposed to improve the defects in traditional Laplace algorithm and contour-driven algorithm, such as the detail distortion and the topological structure change in 3D human body deformation. The deformation is a process from local to global. Firstly, the standard human model is bound to the annular skeleton, and then the local mesh deformation is implemented on the standard human body model based on the bounded biharmonic weights, and then we use the 3D human body proportion measured before to adjusts the position of the skeleton point, finally the 3D human mesh model can be quickly edited with the effect of the skeleton skinning algorithm. The experimental shows that the algorithm can not only maintain the topological structure of the local grid effectively, but also achieve faster 3D model mesh editing compared with directly working on all grid vertices.

Authors: Young Ju Jeong

Abstract: Different scenes according to a user’s movement are important to provide a real three-dimensional (3D) experiment. The different scenes, called virtual viewpoint images, can be rendered by 3D structures. However, 3D structure reconstruction from camera images requires high computational complexity and computation time. A light-field rendering algorithm uses the light fields captured by the camera array as the input and selects the light rays for the virtual viewpoint image. Herein, a light-field rendering algorithm in the view interpolation region using line interpolation is introduced. The proposed algorithm functions well to generate planar viewpoint images and zoomed in/out viewpoint images.

2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Digital Image Processing (CGDIP 2018)

Abstract: Although the role of virtual media technologies in virtual media innovation is becoming more important, the systematic and quantitative analysis of virtual media technologies for virtual media innovation has not been tried to actively. In response, an approach to identify core virtual media technologies based on technological cross-impact is proposed. In specific, the methods for data mining and multi-criteria decision making are systematically applied to the co-classification information of registered BM (business method) patents. First, BM patent data for interested virtual media technology area is collected. Second, the association rule mining is applied to the co-classification information of gathered BM patents in order to calculate the support and confidence values between virtual media technology pairs. A co-classification frequency matrix and a cross-impact matrix are constructed with the calculated support and confidence values, respectively. Third, the ANP (analytic network process) is employed to the constructed co-classification frequency matrix for deriving weights of each virtual media technology in consideration of direct and indirect influences among virtual media technologies. Finally, with the derived weights, the TOPSIS (technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution) is conducted to the constructed cross-impact matrix, and the priority of each virtual media technology is determined from the overall cross-impact perspective. Then, core virtual media technologies are identified with the determined priority values. It is expected that proposed approach could help companies or nations to formulate strategy and policy for virtual media innovation.
