Of additional pride to NPS and to Oklahoma is her being elected as the Vice President of OKASBO’s international organization, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBOI). She will take the gavel as the organization’s president in 2016. "Public education is the greatest success story of our nation, and holds the promise for our nation's future successes. ASBO has great ideas and great people, all working together to find creative ways to make the most of our limited school funding. I'm proud to have been selected as the School Business Official of the Year" Burkett’s other achievements include being a key participant in ASBO’s Economic Crisis Summit at the U.S. Department of Education in 2008 and being awarded the highest certification for a school business official in 2010. The Oklahoma Association of School Business Officials (OKASBO) has announced that Norman Public Schools Chief Financial Officer, Brenda Burkett, has been named the 2015 Oklahoma School Business Official of the Year.

Burkett recently received the award during formal ceremonies held by OKASBO and her superintendent, Dr. Joe Siano, attended with her.

Siano said that while there are many aspects of having a successful school district that fosters student success and opportunity, nothing is important without having financial stability within the school system.

“Quality financial leadership is the key to being able to provide a stable, consistent instructional environment to serve students and families,” he said. “Brenda provides this leadership for us and her commitment and skills have enabled us to provide and expand learning opportunities and services during a very challenging time for public education.”

Burkett is in her 24th year at NPS and was a pioneer within OKASBO, serving during her career in every elected office of OKASBO. Of additional pride to NPS and to Oklahoma is her being elected as the Vice President of OKASBO’s international organization, the Association of School Business Officials International(ASBOI). She will take the gavel as the organization’s president in 2016.

"Public education is the greatest success story of our nation, and holds the promise for our nation's future successes. ASBO has great ideas and great people, all working together to find creative ways to make the most of our limited school funding. I'm proud to have been selected as the School Business Official of the Year"

Burkett’s other achievements include being a key participant in ASBO’s Economic Crisis Summit at the U.S. Department of Education in 2008 and being awarded the highest certification for a school business official in 2010.
