Members have been requested to attend local Primary School Graduation Ceremonies to present prizes donated by our club. Kwinana Festival was held last Saturday 31st October 2015 at Rhodes Park, Calista. Many thanks to everyone who gave their time. Chocolate Wheel was again very successful, profit was down because we had to purchase many of the prizes. Food Van returns were ok, but there was many other food outlets available, we may need to rethink using the van next year. Club trip to Kalgoorlie on the weekend 21st/22nd member numbers attending up to now a little disappointing, however it is a long trip. See Club Service report for more information. RYLA applications have closed, we have 1 nomination. Andy Valk applications will open soon. HandiCamp coming up in January 2016, participants are needed especially carer’s/buddies, we have 1 participant but need a carer. Lorraine Lucas and PP Mike Nella are picking up leftover bread products from Bakers Delight Baldivis, Rockingham and Kwinana to distribute to many community organisations around Kwinana including Gilmore College, Leda, Bertram, Calista, Parmelia Breakfast Club’s. Lorraine commented that most of the bread needs to be sliced, Mike Metcalf is refurbishing a slicer which will be handy Lorraine and Mike wish to sincerely thank Bakers Delight for their very generous support. Lorraine also wishes to follow up a ‘Driver Education’ program currently being run by the Willetton Club.

Polio this week 28th October 2015
On 20 October, the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunization (SAGE) confirmed that the globally coordinated withdrawal of the type 2 component in oral polio vaccine (OPV) should occur in April 2016, specifically in a window from 17 April to 1 May. Countries should intensify their preparatory efforts to switch from trivalent OPV to bivalent OPV to meet this timeline.
Withdrawing OPV type 2 is a crucial part of the polio endgame strategy, in order to eliminate the very rare cases of vaccine associated paralytic polio (VAPP) or circulating vaccine derived polioviruses (cVDPVs). The type 2 component of OPV accounts for 40% of VAPP cases, and upwards of 90% of cVDPV cases. By contrast, wild poliovirus type 2 has not been detected anywhere since 1999 and the Global Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication (GCC) declared this strain globally eradicated at its meeting in September 2015.
SAGE cautioned, however, that more work needs to be implemented ahead of the April 2016 switch date. It is critical that countries meet established deadlines to protect populations by moving the world towards destruction of wild poliovirus type 2 stocks or their appropriate containment in designated ‘poliovirus essential’ facilities. Ongoing cVDPV2 outbreaks needed to be fully stopped. And a global supply constraint of inactivated polio vaccine needed to be carefully managed in the lead-up to the switch, with available supply prioritized to highest risk areas.

There was an elderly couple who in their old age noticed that they were getting a lot more forgetful, so they decided to go to the doctor. The doctor told them that they should start writing things down so they don't forget. They went home and the old lady asked her husband to get her a bowl of ice cream. "You might want to write it down," she said. The husband said, "No, I can remember that you want a bowl of ice cream." She then told her husband she wanted a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream. "Write it down," she told him, and again he said, "No, no, I can remember: you want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream." Then the old lady said she wants a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top. "Write it down," she told her husband and again he said, "No, I got it. You want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top." So he goes to get the ice cream and spends an unusually long time in the kitchen, over 30 minutes. He comes out to his wife and hands her a plate of eggs and bacon. The old wife stares at the plate for a moment, then looks at her husband and asks, "Where's the toast?"
A wife comes home late one night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom.
From under the blanket, she sees four legs instead of just her husband's two. She reaches for a
baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she's done, she goes to the kitchen
to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. He says, "Hi darling,
your parents have come to visit us, so let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say hello?"
Dad: "Can I see your report card, son?"
Son: "I don't have it."
Dad: "Why?"
Son: "I gave it to my friend. He wanted to scare his parents."
Maria, a devout Catholic, got married and had 15 children. After her first husband died, she remarried
and had 15 more children. A few weeks after her second husband died, Maria also passed away.
At Maria's funeral, the priest looked skyward and said, "At last, they're finally together."
Her sister sitting in the front row said, "Excuse me, Father, but do you mean she and her first husband,
or she and her second husband?" The priest replied, "I mean her legs."
