TRANSCRIPT
The adventurous can easily make this walk an all day activity but, if 9.1 km is a little too far for you, why not tackle one of the different stages outlined below?
Remember that this is a one way walk so you will either need to make arrangements to have someone pick you up at the end or Port Macquarie Busways Route 322 follows Pacific Drive parallel to this walk (www.busways.com.au/port-macquarie). Please note that five of the beaches along the walk and Sea Acres Nature Reserve don’t allow dogs and fines apply.
Difficulty: Easy. Flat with solid paths. Suitable for those with mobility issues. (marked as “Accessible Walking” on the map)
Amenities: Water bottle filling stations, public toilets, seating and shops.
Starting in Westport Park make your way along the Hastings River towards the town centre. Keep an eye out for dolphins that frequent these waters and make sure you stop and look at the public art that has been painted along the break wall. There are playgrounds at Westport Park and Town Green, Town Beach and a skate park near the end of the break wall making this stage a great walk for families.
Difficulty: Moderate. Some steep sections and staircases.
Amenities: Water bottle filling stations, seating and public toilets at Flynns Beach.
From Town Beach make your way past the historic Flagstaff Hill and you are now commencing the walk along Port Macquarie’s amazing coastline. Lookout points are located at Windmill Hill Reserve and over Rocky Beach; keep an eye out from early winter through to spring as migrating whales pass by this coastline. Take care as you walk down Tuppenny Road to Flynns Beach and if you are feeling a bit warm why not take a quick dip? Flynns Beach is patrolled in the warmer months and is one of Port Macquarie’s favourite beaches. Flynns Beach Surf Club has a kiosk and shops are also located on nearby Flynn Street.

the stairs to the car park. Take care as you walk through the car park and
follow the path towards Shelly Beach.
Walking down the stairs to Shelly Beach you will encounter a rocky section
which may be inaccessible at high tide. Continue along the beach to the
Shelly Beach picnic area. Shops are located at the top of Shelly Beach Road
on Pacific Drive.
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult. Some steeper sections and staircases.
Beach and bush walking.
Amenities: Some seating. Water bottle filling station on Lighthouse
Road. There are no toilets along this stage.
From Shelly Beach follow the path towards Miners Beach. Take the staircase down to Miners Beach (Caution: Nude bathing and sun bathing) and follow the beach to the end. Here you take the steep path up through Sea Acres Nature Reserve (www.npws.nsw.gov.au). Keep an eye out for goannas and if you’re lucky you may see a koala. Some steeper sections of path take you towards Tacking Point Lighthouse via Little Bay. One last set of steps and you’ve done it! Tacking Point Lighthouse was built in 1879 and the view down Lighthouse Beach is there for you as you take a well earned rest. A kiosk and bus stop are located at the Tacking Point Surf Club.
