Reading is a large town in south-east England with a population of 147,300. It is about halfway
between London and !ford. "o#e people were born in Reading, and they stay be$ause of their
fa#ily and friends. ther people, howe%er, ha%e relo$ated for personal reasons& perhaps they
want to ta'e up a new (ob opportunity or be near their so$ial $ir$le. )his essay will dis$uss two
$o##on reasons why so#e people $hoose to li%e in Reading* to i#pro%e the +uality of their
fa#ily life and to study.
Reading offers the opportunity for a good wor'-life balan$e. It is only #inutes fro# London
by train, but the en%iron#ent is $lean, houses are $heaper and there are #any leisure
opportunities for fa#ilies. )here are par's and pools in the town and the $ountryside is only a
short $ar dri%e away. "hopping is also a growing attra$tion. )he nu#ber of retail outlets has
in$reased by one third sin$e the opening of the ra$le/, a new shopping $o#ple!, in 1. )he
town also has a library, #any pla$es of worship, a theatre, a $on$ert hall, an art gallery, a
#useu#, two $ine#as, a football stadiu#, and #any restaurants. )hese fa$ilities #ean that lo$al
people of all ages ha%e pla$es to go.

$hoose Reading be$ause the uni%ersity has an e!$ellent reputation, a beautiful $a#pus and offers

is effi$ient& there is easy a$$ess to London and eathrow 2irport. 2$$o##odation is fairly easy
to find and $heaper than London. ob opportunities are also good. any students ta'e up part-

In $on$lusion, people li%e in Reading for their own indi%idual reasons. 5or so#e people, Reading
represents a lifestyle $hoi$e, and for others it offers opportunities to study. 6ith its good
e#ploy#ent prospe$ts, ideal lo$ation, wide range of leisure fa$ilities, interesting edu$ational
opportunities and e!$ellent transport lin's, it will no doubt $ontinue to be a popular pla$e to li%e
in the future.
