    1/1

    a) Discuss the diferences between the grammar translation

    approach and the direct approach.

At rst glance, both the grammar translation approach and the direct

approach seem to be totally diferent, and indeed they are. First o all,

grammar translation approach is more systematic and strict, basedon rigid structural grammatical orms and back translation, with the

purpose o encouraging the ability o read and write in the target

language. And as a result, de-emphasies the listening and speak

student!s ability, which is undamental in the process o ac"uiring a

language. #n the other hand, direct approach is essentially based on

principles o rst language ac"uisition and relies on a total immersion

system, where the student is deeply submerged in the culture o the

target language and emphasies speaking rather than the writing and

reading, as the most important aspects o a language.

    b) $hich approach closely aligns with your current teaching style%

&o be perectly honest with you, ' use both. 'n (nglish there is not a

perect or uni"ue ormula to teach. As an (nglish teacher the way '

teach is a blend o seeral approaches. (ery day ' use diferent

techni"ues like reading comprehension, use o cognates, lling in the

blanks, enactments etc. $e hae to use as much as possible

resources to create an interesting class to our students. &his is the

way to make (nglish a little bit more approachable and interesting.
