Dear Prospective Student,

Above and beyond all else, I want ACM’s music, gaming and wider creative industries graduates to live happy lives, earning a living by doing something they love.

That’s why my team of over 300 staff and I work so hard to deliver ACM students the very best education that we can. It’s normal for us to update our curriculum regularly, but this time around, we’ve made more enhancements than ever before. In an education, re-imagined, we’ve taken the best of everything that we’ve learnt from delivering on-campus over the last 27 years, along with our experiences of going digital during the

pandemic, to come up with something particularly special.

Read on to find out more about what makes ACM so very different from any other creative industries educator you might be considering. The difference is not just present in what we do, but in how we do it. We want to know you, your history, and your ambitions for the future – and we’ll use this understanding to prepare a bespoke combination of academic, personal, and professional development activities that will join the dots between where you are now, and where you want to be, in industry.

I hope to see you when you join us on campus, soon. I can’t wait for you to see for yourself just how much things have evolved.

Executive ChairmanKainne Clements

Dear Future Graduate,

The world in which we live has changed immeasurably, and as a result, the skills you need to build and maintain a career in the creative industries are changing too. Creativity, collaboration, and communication are more important now than ever before, and so I want you to know that you can put your trust into ACM, as an education provider that understands all of these things.

ACM believes that if education is to do its job, it needs to keep at least one step ahead of that change in the world around us. That’s why we’ve been working hard on a brand new educational approach for September. Designed by some of the best minds in education and industry, and directly informed by you, our students, you won’t find this anywhere else.

If you’ve followed ACM for a while, you’ll already know of its industry reputation as a trail-blazer. As a pioneer of the accelerated, two-year degree format all the way back in 2001, ACM became known for getting its students industry-ready, sooner. And with so many other innovations under its belt in the time since, such as developing the UK’s first ever Rap degree in 2019, it has been my privilege to work with so many colleagues on something super special for the 2022 academic year.

Not only is our September 2022 curriculum bigger, broader and more collaborative than ever before, introducing subject matter that proves ACM is a place where ALL creativity matters, but it offers yet another UK-first that I’m incredibly proud of. At a time when all employers are looking for more from today’s graduates, I’m so pleased tell you about ACM’s launch of the UK’s first ever accelerated degree programme with integrated masters qualification. Where your peers may study for three years elsewhere and gain a bachelors degree (which is an undergraduate, Level 6 qualification), you can choose to study at ACM for the same three years but get a masters degree (which is a post-graduate, Level 7 qualification), instead.

I hope that you will read on, knowing that in choosing ACM, you are choosing an institution that is investing now in your future. In choosing ACM, you are choosing tomorrow’s creative industries education, today.

Under 18?Study Music Performance, Songwriting or Gaming NOWand keep your options wide open for the future.

If you aren’t quite of University age just yet, but you’re currently studying for your GCSEs and like the idea of joining ACM as soon as possible, then look no further than our range of Further Education study options.

Our Extended Diploma qualification gives you an alternative to staying on at school or going to a traditional sixth-form college. Awarded by UAL, the Level 3 qualification provides UCAS points to the equivalent of 3x A-Levels at A* grade, at its maximum.

Over 75% of ACM Diploma students remain at ACM for their subsequent Degree studies (at either the same or a different ACM Campus), but importantly, this high quality qualification therefore provides opportunities to go into employment or elsewhere in Higher Education, if the plan changes.

You can choose from the following subject matter:• Music Performance (Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keys

Vocals, Rap)• Music Production• Songwriting• Game development

Under 19s study free at this level and we have Level 2 equivalents available, too, for those who need to resit their English or Maths GCSE qualifications.

They’ll help you personalise your studiesAs we’ve grown over the years gone by, we’ve kept a particular mantra close to our hearts, and it’s this: To always be small enough to care and big enough to make a difference. But what does that mean? It means that we want to know you. It means that we want to know your history. It means we want to know your ambitions for the future. And it means we want to work with you now, creating dialogue and discussion, to join those dot between where you are today and where you one day want to be out there, in industry.

WHY do we want to know all of this? Because getting to know all of these things helps us understand how we can personalise your Higher Education at ACM, using our suite of elective modules that can help differentiate yourself from your classmates and the other graduates out there in industry. Personalising your education in this way improves your employability, creating a unique calling card for yourself that is made up of all of your interests and preference.

Elective Module options vary and can include Graphic Design, Web and App Design, Videography, Photography, Music Therapy, Psychology, Education and Training, Movement and Dance, Radio and Broadcast Studies, Creative Writing, Music Journalism, Event Management and much, much more.

We’ll turn a course into a career

We’re interested in your career as much as your studies, and have dedicated an entire department to helping you take your first steps into industry.

ACM’s Industry Link team will support your professional development during your studies here at ACM, and long after, too.

Through regular networking events, work placements, showcases, interviews and audition opportunities, you’ll be able to showcase your knowledge and talent to creative industries executives (from games publishing houses to record labels, music publishers to software developers, management companies to live agents, promoters and more) and gain first-hand feedback from those in the know.

In a business that can feel very inaccessible, Industry Link is here to give ACM’s students the direct access they need. The department connects students to a network of top-tier industry partners in the music, gaming and wider creative industries, and also offers various development programmes for students in conjunction with ACM’s education teams. Together, they’ll assist in adding gloss and polish to your work, helping to turn good into great through their specialist mentoring.

Industry Link hosts regular performance and showcase events, encouraging students of ACM Campuses with Gig Swaps and Games Dev Swaps to build their audiences and collaborators in the areas around ACM campuses, other than their own.

So, whether you are a musician, artist, songwriter, producer, techie, gamer or businessperson, Industry Link offers constructive advice and earned opportunity, helping you achieve your goals and ambitions through the most relevant creative industries connections and referrals we can offer.

You’ll have three ACM campuses to choose from, and each one is unique. Which one will YOU call home?

Want to discover our campuses for yourself? Visit us for an Open Day by registering at www.acm.ac.uk/open-days

ACM Guildford is our longest-standing and most established campus, home to over 1,700 full time students who study within 7 stylish town-centre buildings. Guildford, which is renowned for its huge selection of shops, restaurants, and sports facilities, also has a vibrant nightlife scene catering to the town’s large student community, thanks to the other educational institutions that call it home.

Guildford is also bustling with dedicated music venues of all sizes, from The Boileroom (a 275-capacity live event space) to G Live, a 1,700-capacity venue which recently hosted live performances by ACM students during our graduation event, and our very own Electric Theatre – a 210-capacity seated theatre, where ACM students get to learn and perform every week. It’s hard to find a venue in Guildford that isn’t connected to ACM in some way.

Our ACM Guildford Campus facilities include:

The SSL Duality Studio - One of our many state of the art recording studios on campus.

The Apple Mac Creativity Labs - Rooms packed full of the latest equipment, hosted in our dedicated building at The Billings.

Rehearsal Pods for private use and collaboration, hosted within our Artist Development Centre.

The Electric Theatre - A 210 seater, fully specified theatre complete with a student performance, event and bar space.

ACM Birmingham can be found in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, which English Heritage calls “a national treasure”. Steeped in rich musical history, bands as diverse as Editors, Black Sabbath, Duran Duran, The Streets, and Judas Priest – as well as Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant, and drummer John Bonham – all hail from Birmingham, which is also the second largest city in the UK. As the campus is located in the city centre, students of ACM Birmingham are never short of things to do. Birmingham is renowned for its incredible performance venues, and we have relationships with many of them. As ACM’s newest campus, it has a very boutique vibe. It’s currently home to approximately 200 students, and we can’t wait to follow the success of our Birmingham graduates in the years ahead.

You’ll celebrate your achievements at Graduation

Graduation marks that special moment we’re working towards, when a course turns into a career. The future ahead is bright and exciting, overflowing with an endless wealth of possibilities. Graduation is also the perfect time to look back at the past, and everything that led to this landmark life experience. The passion-driven decisions that propelled an aspiring musician towards the achievement of a lifelong dream. The dedicated, committed focus that naturally comes when you’re immersed in something you love. The deep, satisfying sense of joy and excitement you feel when you level-up and everyone around you takes notice. ACM graduates look back at all of the above and much more, and can also look forward with total confidence. Our Degree graduation celebrations have featured speeches from industry luminaries like Beyoncé’s songwriter Carla-Marie Williams, Sarah Brown of Simple Minds and Eddie Thrower from Lower Than Atlantis. Many ACM students also performed live on stage during the event. Diploma students also have an end of programme yearbook event to celebrate their time at ACM, with over 75% of Diploma students returning to ACM for their Degree studies.

Our campuses may be smaller than the average College or University, but we certainly know a thing or two about throwing an afterparty.

The candidates you are applying alongside are just like you and we are most certainly not looking for perfection. In fact, perfection, especially in the arts, is something that you are always on the road towards but will never achieve as your own standards grow with you, so don’t set yourself that impossible bar, now. Instead, rest assured that we are looking for those people with passion and potential. We’re looking for diamonds in the rough. We’re looking for people who are ready to learn.

If you’re a musician who needs to brush up on your sight reading, that’s ok. We’ll give you support with that. Or maybe you’re a future business exec who gets nervous about presentations? That’s ok, too. We’ll give you coaching to make it better. We’ll go above and beyond in our efforts to widen participation in every way possible, for as long as you show strength of character and commitment to your studies.

Through the process, you’ll meet current and prospective students, experience what learning in our unique environment is like with our world-class lecturers and, depending on your chosen study discipline, you will either be asked to perform a musical piece, play us some of your best work and/or speak to us about your career aspirations.

Remember, we want to know you, your history, and all of your ambitions for the future so that we can help join those dots between where you are now, and where you one day want to be, out there in industry.

Auditioning/Interviewing with us is also a great way to see our campuses. You can always visit us for a Campus tour or Open Day too, of course. More information about those is at acm.ac.uk/open-days

We’ll provide full information to you at the time of booking your audition / interview timeslot.
