IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!ADDICTIVE INGREDIENTS IN FAST FOODJan 30, 2011 | By Skyler White Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/369937-addictive-ingredients-in-fast-food/#ixzz2b9tVLtOa

With the obesity epidemic plaguing the United States, you may have heard claims that fast food chains use addictive ingredients to keep the masses coming back for more. Although poor eating habits and a general lack of physical activity are sufficient reasons for excessive weight gain, fast food restaurants do use ingredients that encourage people to eat too much of these unhealthy foods. These ingredients can also be found on almost every aisle of your grocery store.

IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!Scientist say food contains addictive additives to make us eat more.

People think that because it's food, you can't be addicted to it.

David Kessler, ex-commissioner of the US Food & Drug Administration argues an exact mixture of fat, salt and sugar triggers chemicals in the brain causing a "bliss" sensation.

He argues fast food chains (e.g. McDonald's) have spent millions researching how to trigger this bliss sensation to ensure people become addicted (meaning their brain becomes physically dependent on this chemical "bliss" sensation to function properly.)

What makes potato chips, french fries addictive? The fats present in these foods trigger the body to produce natural marijuana-like chemicals, called endocannabinoids, which drive our gluttonous behavior, researchers at the University of California, Irvine, found. “This is the first demonstration that endocannabinoid signaling in the gut plays an important role in regulating fat intake,” study researcher Daniele Piomelli, a professor of pharmacology at the University of California, Irvine,

Is Mexican Coke the real thing?

By Louise ChuASSOCIATED PRESSNovember 9, 2004 LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – There's at least one place where the iconic caramel-colored fizz of American Coca-Cola doesn't reign supreme , and it's deep in the heart of Coke country. At Las Tarascas Latino Supermarket, 30 miles from the soft drink giant's world headquarters in Atlanta, store manager Eric Carvallo adjusts prized bottles of Mexican Coke displayed at the front of the store. He then points over his shoulder to a noticeably smaller display of American Cokes tucked in the corner.
