FUNCHAL & MONTE TOUR - APRIL 23

Private Full Day Tour in Funchal City and Monte withTobbogansOur first tour in Funchal & Monte. We start our tour at the local market, at theentrance you will bewelcomed by the flower sellers wearing the bright traditionalcustoms. Fruits and vegetables stands are placed around a central patio and, atthe bottom of the stairs, you will find the fish marked, where, among other speciescaught in this part of the Atlantic, you will see the amazing “espada” fish. At theembroidery factory you will be able to see the beautiful designs created andtransferred to the cloth and then the finishing process. The road will then take us toMonte where we have the opportunity of enjoying the shade of its big sycamores, orwalk through the gardens that have flowers all year round, and finally, climb the longstairs to the Church of Our Lady of the Monte. The best way to get back down toFunchal is by taking one of the carros de cestos (toboggans), which make their waydown the sharply winding the curves.

PORTO MONIZ TOUR - APRIL 24

CAMARA DE LOBOS, CABO GIRÃO, PORTO MONIZ WESTTOURExplore in a private tour, Câmara de Lobos, a pretty fishing town that is located onthe south-eastern side of Madeira.After the tour continues up to the worlds secondhighest sea cliff and Europe’s highest (580m) – (1775 ft). Here you can enjoy thebeautiful views of Camara de Lobos and Funchal. Due to sea erosion, caves andterraces were formed along the coastline. The locals made little plots, for crops,forming an incredible watercolor landscape, reach Porto Moniz, we passlandscapes intercepted by lyricism and suspense.


LEVADA AND CALDEIRÃO VERDE TOUR - APRIL 25

Levada Walking TourA fantastic walk along the Levada do Vale Paraíso, Levadas are water channelsused for irrigation, where the fields and hills combine in a wonderful scenery. Afterthe walk one enters Camacha, wicker work center of the island and is given thechance to visit the handcraft exhibit and do some shopping.

SANTANA TOUR - APRIL 27

Santana, Pico do Areeiro East TourWe leave Funchal on the road to Poiso. Arriving in Poiso, we take a detour to Picodo Areeiro, the third highest point in the Island, at 1810 m. On a clear day the viewover the island’s hinterland is remarkable. Back towards Poiso, heading throughthe Laurissilva, or primitive forest of Madeira, towards Ribeiro Frio. This is a place

blessed by especially rich vegetation, with plants unique to the island. There is alsoa small trout farm that has become an obligatory stop for any visitor. Lunch will takeplace in a local restaurant at Faial. Back to the main road and following it towardsSantana. Here triangular houses, with thatched roofs and picturesque gardens,compose one of this island’s traditional picture postcard images. We then headtowards Porto da Cruz, and up to Portela, to admire a fascinating view over thevalley and the imposing rock of Penha d’Águia. Following the road, we continue tothe town of Machico, the landing point for the discoverers of Madeira and home tothe islands oldest church. Return to Funchal
