We welcome Rev. Fred Thibodeau! This morning we welcome the Rev. Fred Thibodeau to give the introductory address for our 2016 Stewardship Emphasis. Fred Thibodeau is a retired United Methodist Minister and graduate of Kansas State University after a 3 year stint in the Army (67‐70). He attended the St. Paul School of Theology (UMC) in Kansas City and served churches in the former Kansas East Conference before taking a Development job at Baker University in Kansas. He worked for 25 years in higher education development. When his spouse, DU Chancellor Rebecca Chopp, became President of Colgate University he became pastor of a small United Methodist congregation in Hamilton, NY and served with that church with great pleasure for six years. He likes to read and follow just about any kind of sport. We are honored to have him as our guest speaker to initiate our Stewardship Emphasis for 2016.

For all leaders, interested members, and friends Narrative Future 2015
When the Narrative Future Project began, it was part of a plan for a future transition, but in the way that life and the church sometimes moves, we are now in the midst of transition. Church leaders and all interested members and friends are invited to participate in Narrative Future 2015, a group process for appreciating what our church means to us and visioning a future for the church that carries forward the best of us.
November 8, 2015 12:15‐4:00 p.m. University Park United Methodist Church
Led by Rev Dale Beck, Steve Felt, and David McDaniel These are among the principles of Appreciative Inquiry that guide the process:
In every society, organization or group, something works. What we focus on becomes our reality. What we pay attention to is what grows. Asking questions of an organization or group influences the group in some way. If we carry parts of the past forward, they should be the best things about the past. It is important to value differences.
The purpose of our day: Building community through telling our stories and shared visioning. Understanding and naming what is life‐giving in our faith community Imagining and naming the future we want for our church and its leadership.
Lunch and childcare will be provided. Please register for childcare by Nov 1.
REGISTRATION FORM I/we will attend Narrative Future 2015 on November 8. Number attending_______________ I/we will need childcare. Number of children and ages: _______________________________ Please place this slip in Diane Felt’s mailbox in the workroom adjacent to her office or place it in the offering plate on Sunday. You may also send us an email telling us you’d like to attend and whether childcare is needed: [email protected].
Your gifts make the difference! Your gifts make the difference! As we move into the stewardship season, this year looks so different from last year at University Park. Last year you talked about the possibility of retirement for your pastor in a few years. Now we are anticipating new “in place” pastoral leadership in the year to come. One of our chief concerns as we look at the year before us is that the church remains sound in its conduct, ministries, and finances so that new leadership comes to a place that is ready to move into the future with confidence. I urge you to support the ministry and future of the church with your generous support. That is the only way we can be where we want to be to create the future we want to have for our church, the future that we believe God intends for us. Your gifts make the difference! University Park United Methodist Church is distinctive. We suppose every congregation has its own particular life and style, but there is something unique in this congregation. It has to do with its past and the excellent tradition of this congregation that has been in place here. Part of the uniqueness has to do with our location on the edge of the campus of University of Denver. We live and worship in this place where the future is being formed through education. Our DU Foundation Campus Ministry takes the uncommon path of service to invite students into a relationship with God that feeds the hungry and takes and cares for the outcast. Your gifts keep these ministries vital. Your gifts make the difference! This is a place of worship and hospitality that welcomes and includes people of all ages and nations. All are welcome here. Children are nurtured in a caring environment that teaches them not only to value the God in them, but also to value the God in each other. Youth have fun and find a community that cares about them. They also have opportunities for meaningful service. Ongoing and short term groups for younger, middle, and older adults explore the meaning of faith and they are urged to use their talents and stewardship toward making the city a more kind and caring place to live. Your gifts make this possible. Your gifts make the difference. Your gifts make the difference! University Park UMC is unique in the number and variety of groups and persons that gather under its roof: some relating to the University, some providing a place for people battling addictions, practicing mindfulness and yoga, learning music, coming for spiritual direction. Over 500 people a week pass through the doors of Evanston Center for Spiritual Wholeness and Healing: learning English, gathering for worship, engaging in Bible study, supporting one another and healing through various forms of trauma. Our ministries under the roof are multiplied by ministries outside the walls. University Park makes the community and world better places for people to live. Your gifts make the difference.
