What does the Diploma Programme curriculum contain The curriculum contains six subject groups and a core of three parts.

The extended essay: !  4,000 words !  Offers the opportunity to investigate a research question of

individual interest !  Students become familiar with the independent research and

!  Diploma Programme assessment includes both final examinations and internal assessment undertaken by the teacher to IB criteria and then externally moderated by the IB

. !  All 4,000 examiners are �quality checked� through a process of moderation.

!  The IB undertakes random inspections of schools during exams.

•  The diploma is graded over 45 points giving ample scope to differentiate student ability

•  Marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest).

•  Diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points.

•  A high degree of alignment was found between DP standards in all subject areas and the Knowledge and Skills for University Success (KSUS).

•  There was complete alignment in several subject areas, and many individual IB standards were more advanced than those required for success in entry-level college courses.

(the US average is 56%). •  Of those students, the four-year and six-year graduation

rates (64% and 81% respectively) •  were higher than the national averages (36% and 57%

The IB works closely with universities in all regions of the world to gain recognition for the IB diploma:

•  Direct online access for university admissions officers and government officials to syllabuses and recent examination papers

•  A database of university admission policies on www.ibo.org •  Recognition by over 2,000 universities •  Some universities offer scholarships and advanced

placement for IB students .

•  Visit the IBO.Org •  Private Universities Determine their own policy •  UC System will give college credit for HL courses that

earn a 5 or higher. 3 college semester credits per HL •  UC will also give 30 college semester credits for

students who score 30 or higher on their IB exams •  CSU will give college credit for HL courses that earn a 4

or higher on their IB exams. •  Students can earn 6 semester credits per HL course

•  SJHS does not want to discourage students not to test due to financial reasons

•  Scholarships are available however, funds are limited

•  Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch have a reduced rate

•  Last year it was $10.00 an exam •  State has not disclosed the rate but

there are funds available •  Payment arrangements can be made

for all families •  Students who register by November

1 are responsible to complete the assessments and pay for the exams
