September 17, 2017 do not have enough EMHC to administer Holy Com-munion under both kinds (Sacred Host & Precious Blood) at the principal Mass (Sunday 9:30 AM). All other Masses (Saturday 4:00 PM, Sunday 7:30 AM and 11:15 AM) will have the Sacred Host only. The Church continues to teach that Christ is present whole and entire in the Sacred Host alone or in the Precious Blood alone. We receive the whole Christ – His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity – even if we receive only the Sacred Host or only the Precious Blood. Those who have gluten allergy (celiac dis-ease) can receive Holy Communion by making spe-cial arrangements with the Priest. Please let me know if I can assist you with this. I know that change is difficult for some people. I hope we can all exercise patience and perseverance. Sincerely yours in Our Lord and Our Lady, Father Rommel P. Tolentino

Prayer for Safety in Hurricane Season O God, Master of this passing world, Hear the hum-ble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quie-tude. You are still the Master of the land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy and overstep its conven-tional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O lov-ing Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and ani-mated with a true spirit of gratitude, we walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where stormless eternity awaits us. Amen

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Dear Parishioners, I would like to give you a heads up on several things that are go-ing on in our parish. First, our

restrooms renovation in the day chapel is now com-plete. If you have not yet seen it, please check it out. I have heard many positive comments from pa-rishioners who are very grateful for the much needed upgrade and improvement. We could not have done it without your generous contribution to our Building Fund. Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart! Secondly, the visible part of the Cathedral restora-tion will begin next week (September 25 – 29). I say “visible” because behind-the-scenes work already started since the beginning of this year – verifying measurements, finalizing plans, preparing docu-ments, committee meetings, removing the hedges around the church in preparation for the work, etc. etc. Here is the scope of the work we will see next week: The vestment closets and cabinets will be moved from the sacristy to the day chapel. Ribbeck Construction will install temporary ramps for equip-ment and a dumpster for disposal at the south entry. The pews will be numbered and stacked per stack-ing plan for access to the walls. The acoustical tiles and adhesives will be removed from the interior walls. The tiles (no they aren't stone!) hold moisture and need to be removed to prevent further damage. Crews will also remove the vinyl flooring of the choir loft and the sacristy, clean and inspect the subfloors, and repair any rotten or damaged framing. At the end of the week the pews will be reset, all equip-ment and construction items removed, and the church cleaned.

Daily Masses on September 25-29 will be held in the Ave Maria Hall. We have a contingency plan for the weekend Masses on September 30-October 1, just in case they do not finish the work on time. We will let you know through Flocknote and announce-ments. We appreciate your cooperation at this excit-ing time in our restoration journey! Thirdly, the Pastoral Council met on August 24th re-garding the situation with our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC). Several EMHC ap-proached the Cathedral staff, members of the Pas-toral Council, and me, personally, to express the de-sire to serve less frequently (They are serving al-most every week). We have had Masses where we

. MEN NEEDED FOR THE CATHEDRAL CHOIR!

The Cathedral Choir is in desperate need of men—tenors, baritones and basses. If you are aged high school to adult and can make this part of your regular ministry, please consider doing so! The Cathedral Choir sings at the 9:30 A.M. Mass on Sundays (beginning next Sunday, September 17). Rehearsals are in the choir room, lo-cated in the office building, on Wednesdays from 6:00—8:00 P.M. An informal vocal evaluation with the music director is required. The ability to read music is desirable, but not essential, as long as you have “a good ear.” If you are singing or have sung in choirs in high school or college or were in band in high school or college or just like to sing and want to be part of a very special group, please consider joining us! For more information, call Robert Marcantel at 436-7251. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ LET’S DO SOME FALL CLEANING!! During the past few months we have been holding Inquiry classes for those seeking to inquire about the Catholic faith. On Saturday, September 30, at the 4 o’clock Mass, we

will have the Rite of Acceptance Into the Order of Catechumens for Trey Ferguson and Ben Sensat who are seeking Baptism. This is the liturgical rite where, assembling publicly for the first time, they will declare their intention to the Church and, in turn, the Church will accept their intention to become its members. Now called Catechumens, Trey and Ben will begin Dismissal Catechesis continuing to study the teachings of the Catholic faith in preparation to receive the Initiation Sacraments of Bap-tism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist next Easter. We also have three Candidates who, having been baptized in other faiths, are preparing to be brought into Full Communion with the Catholic Church. Le’Ann Adams, Karen Crawford and Delores Singh will continue in their catechesis until they are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Please keep each of these Catechumens and Candidates in your prayers. They will all need the support of our parish Com-munity as they continue their journey of spiritual formation and reception of the Sacraments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ COMING UP—-CLEAN OUT THE FREEZER DAY—ANNUAL ABRAHAM’S TENT BENEFIT SET FOR OCTOBER 8TH. All food can be taken to Gordon’s Drug Store parking lot, 1-4 PM, —2716 Lake Street. Details in next week’s bulletin.
