Here’showitworks.Adavailsarescheduledandmanagedthroughthebroadcaster’sautomation,trafficandbillingsystems.Insertionofcontentintoavailablespotsistriggeredbytheautomationserver,whichsignalsthepositionofavailsbysendinganSCTE-104messagetotheElectraencoder.TheencodergeneratesanSCTE-35signalfromtheSCTE-104message,whichisextractedbytheProStream,andthissplicerequestisforwardedtotheadserverthoughanSCTE-30message.TheadservertheninitiatesthesplicebysendingthecorrectadtoProStream.Attheprecisetime,ProStreamswitchesfromtheTScontainingthenationalcontenttotheTScontainingthelocalad;whentheavailtimeisover,ProStreamswitchesbacktothenationalbroadcast.TheupdatedmultiplexthencontinuesdownstreamtoeitheranASIorIPnetwork.

Acontent-insertiontriggercanalsobeinitiatedmanuallyviaaschedulerorcontactcloser.InthiscaseanSCTE-30messageissenttoProStreambytheadservertoinitiatetherequestforadinsertion.Asingle1-RUProStreamcansplicevideoandaudiocontentonupto70servicesinrealtime.
