Impacts of the New Technology
• When properly used and maintained, the new technology helps reduce the harmful pollution from heavy-duty highway vehicles
• When not properly used, the technology can cause some serious pain for fleet operators
– Decreased fuel economy– Unscheduled downtime = missed deliveries– Engine de-rating (loss of engine power)
• Need to educate yourself– Pay attention to the on-board vehicle systems and do not ignore– Training of drivers, dispatchers and technicians

Average vehicle holding patterns have risen nearly a year in last decade
Impacts of the New Technology
• No significant change in mileage patterns over the past decade as a result of technological changes
• Initial experience suggests good acceptance of new technology in secondary used vehicle market
• Vehicle residual values on new technology, expressed as a percent of acquisition price, look to be performing consistent with pre-EPA ‘07 technology residual values
Impacts of the New Technology
• Each generation of EPA compliant engine technology showing improvement
• Complexity of new technology has driven higher maintenance costs and increased down time
• Complexity of technology has created challenges for drivers and technicians alike
• Continued improvements being made by OEMs on new engine technology systems and component parts
