Regional Community

Hub Project

Description: A shared vision between the City and the developer is crucial to the success of this project, the 9.75-acre site will be sold through two phases. The first phase is the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), which determines a shortlist of qualified proponents who share Council’s vision. The second phase is the Request for Proposals (RFP), which invites the shortlisted proponents to submit their detailed redevelopment proposal for the site. A set of 12 Development Principles has been identified in the Request for Qualification document by which any future proposals should be evaluated.

Description: The project includes the development of the former Orillia District Collegiate & Vocational Institute at 2 Borland Street East, Orillia. The site, which was purchased by the County of Simcoe in summer 2018, is proposed to be transformed into a vibrant Regional Community Hub that will meet the diverse needs and services of members of the community. A community hub is a space in which multiple services and supports – such as housing, health, social, cultural, recreational and government, etc. – are located together, creating an efficient one-stop shop for residents to access the resources, services and supports they need.

Potential Future Development

Soldier’s Memorial Hospital Project

Description: Planning for a new hospital on a different site, in addition to a re-purposed Community Tower at the current hospital location, is receiving strong support as community engagement activity on the Future Hospital project continues. The OSMH Board of Directors has directed the hospital to focus its planning efforts on the ‘new hospital, different site’ as work continues toward development of a Stage One capital planning submission to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN in 2019.
