I created some thumbnails for my initial ideas and played around in photoshop with them, adding effects, and in different styles. I tried to differentiate them as much as I could. Out of the ten thumbnails there were two clear favourites, the ‘Sketch’ and ‘Vector’ style. I then E-Mailed the two ideas to the Creative Director and asked for some feedback. DEVELOPING MY DESIGN IDEA From the feedback: “Sketch: More Sci-Fi themed, the lighting effect is good. It’s more dramatic than the vector style. Vector: I prefer this one, and could work well, the colours are really good. Definitely make it a vector with a clean style. This is less dramatic, so maybe implement some features from the sketch style into this one.” I was pleased with this feedback because I wanted to take the vector style forward but also, the feedback gave me some ideas and improvements for my design. I tried various colour palettes, but none seemed to work quite as well as the orange/blue complimentary colours. I began my design and ended up with what you see on the bottom right. I created some thumbnails for my initial ideas and played around in photoshop with them, adding effects, and in different styles. I tried to differentiate them as much as I could. Out of the

ten thumbnails there were two clear favourites, the ‘Sketch’ and ‘Vector’ style. I then E-Mailed the two ideas to the Creative Director and asked for some feedback.

DEVELOPING MY DESIGN IDEA

From the feedback: “Sketch: More Sci-Fi themed, the lighting effect is good. It’s more dramatic than the vector style. Vector: I prefer this one, and could work well, the colours are really good. Definitely make it a vector with a clean style. This is less dramatic, so maybe implement some features from the sketch style into this one.”""I was pleased with this feedback because I wanted to take the vector style forward but also, the feedback gave me some ideas and improvements for my design.""I tried various colour palettes, but none seemed to work quite as well as the orange/blue complimentary colours. I began my design and ended up with what you see on the bottom right.

FINAL DESIGN (WITHOUT TEXT & MASTHEAD)

As you can see, I used horizontal lines as ‘shading’ to give the effect that more light was coming from behind him. I used sharp edges for something that would stand out to a viewer and I think also conveys Enders Game and the Sci-Fi genre well.""I chose my font from 2 others, and OCR A Std fitted really well with the style and theme of my cover. It also fitted perfectly across the bottom of the image, and I think looks good there.""Finally, I added the masthead and my cover was complete.
