Another Deuter is born here

1898 Augsburg, Germany. The company is foundedby Hans Deuter. At the turn of the century Deuter iscommissioned to supply the Royal Bavarian Post Offi cewith postage bags and mail sacks.

1905 Expansion The mechanized sailcloth and linen weaving, sackcloth, freight, car and horse blanket manufacturing fi rm expands and now also includes a rental service for tents.

1910 First major client Satchels, backpacks, knapsacks,belts, mess and store tents are increasingly in demand.

1919 The founder Hans Deuter operates the companyunder his name and produces suitcases, backpacks, tentsand truck canopies.

1934 Himalayans expedition The Tauern backpackproves its worth at the Himalayans expedition to theNanga Parbat.

1938 Anderl Heckmair is the fi rst to conquer theEiger North face (on July 22.-24.) accompanied byLudwig Vrg, Fritz Kasparek, and Heinrich Harrer.On his back: a Deuter rucksack.

1953 Hermann Buhl carried a Deuter backpack on hisfamous fi rst ascent of the Nanga Parbat (8.125 m). Whilehis companions turned back, Buhl continued by himself and left his Deuter pack at a secondary peak.

1957 The family business becomes a joint-stockcorporation. The company is now called DeuterIndustriewerke AG-Augsburg.

1962 The tent division becomes an independentcompany Deuter Hallenbau GmbH, Augsburg. One ofmany expeditions equipped by Deuter reaches the summitof the Nanga Parbat via the extremely diffi cult Diamir face.

1984 Deuter AIRCOMFORT back system is born:The original ventilated back system is born and patented. Itrevolutionizes the backpack market and becomes the most famous back system worldwide.

1989 Separate ways, two product segments, traveland backpacks, split from the main company Deuter AGand become Deuter Sport & Leder GmbH.

1996 Deuter engineers the fi rst TV approved child carrier.

1997 Deuter partners with the German Ski and Mountain Guide Association and solicits product feedback.

2001 Deuter goes international and establishes a new subsidiary in the United States: Deuter USA Inc.

2005 The SL Womens Fit backpack program is further extended and becomes a coherent womens collectionmanaged by a professional, independent team.

2006 Schwan Stabilo, a family owned German Company, purchases Deuter. The company is now is now called Deuter Sport GmbH & Co. KG.

Deuter Aircontact SystemsBy aligning the packs center of gravity closely to the bodys center of gravity, the AIRCONTACT System provides

full load control, and evenly spreads its weight. The back padding is made of breathable hollow chamber foam, which allows allows a snug fit while providing great ventilation. Perspiration is reduced by up to 15% - confirmed in a field test conducted by Gabriel L. & T. in cooperation with the University of Erlangen.
