Cleantech Group is delighted to be bringing its 4th Cleantech Tour of China for a week in China, January

26-30 2015. And we are delighted to do so again, with the support of our premium tour partners,

Idinvest Partners and Silicon Valley Bank / SPD-Silicon Valley Bank. This tour represents the 7th year of

our event series in China.

This document provides a description of the people and companies in our 2015 tour party, and their

objectives with regards to China. Between them, they will introduce 14 companies to you, grouped in

this booklet around 5 themes.

The Companies

The following 14 cleantech companies from the US and Europe will be presented during the two company showcase events– Beijing (Monday January 26), Shanghai (Thursday January 29). Four of these companies are “2014 Global Cleantech 100” companies. One was the European Company of the Year 2014.

Theme 3. Solar: Advancing the Next Generation of Efficiency

5) NovoPolymers (Belgium) – Developer and producer of transparent polymer based films for

encapsulation of PV cells into solar modules

6) Optistring (Sweden) – Developer of power inverter systems for grid connected solar power

installations

7) Sol Voltaics (Sweden) – Developer of nanotechnology focused on highly efficient, third-

generation photovoltaic concentrator solar cells

for industrial and gas treating applications

11) Oxymem (Ireland) - Manufacturers of the Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) which

solves energy intensive wastewater treatment with bubble-less wastewater aeration

12) Leosphere (France) - Provider of equipment for ground-based and nacelle-mounted LIDAR (Light

Detection And Ranging) for atmospheric observation.

Theme 5. Driving Forward Efficiency in the Trucking Industry

13) Odyne Systems (USA) – Developer of plug-in hybrid propulsion and stationary power systems for

commercial work trucks.

14) Teva Motors (UK) – Developer of hybrid range-extended electric trucks for the medium-duty

delivery truck market, which deliver lower costs of ownership than diesel trucks.

Short Bio: Jos Peeters is Founder and Managing Partner of Capricorn Venture Partners, a Leuven-based pan-European manager of venture capital funds. Capricorn Venture Partners is currently investing out of its Capricorn Cleantech Fund, its Capricorn Health-tech Fund, its Capricorn ICT Arkiv and is managing Quest for Growth, a cross-over fund quoted on EuroNext Brussels, and the Quest Management Cleantech Sicav. Purpose of Trip: Jos is a regular visitor to China – in part because of two portfolio companies: Punch Powertrain is a provider of innovative clean powertrain technologies, which operates out of Nanjing and Green Biologics whose Chinese licencee was the first in the world to produce second generation biobutanol at industrial scale. He wishes to keep expanding his connections and network to help all relevant Capricorn Venture Partners portfolio companies in China. Description:

Avantium is a leading technology company specialized in the area of advanced catalytic research. It

develops products and processes in the areas of energy, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries

through two distinct technology platforms: YXY and Catalysis. YXY is the brand name for a cost

competitive process to catalytically convert plant based materials into biobased fuels, chemicals and

bioplastics, like PEF. PEF is a novel 100% biobased polyester with enhanced barrier, thermal and

mechanical properties over existing packaging materials. The proprietary YXY process to make PEF has

been proven at pilot plant scale and the company is moving to commercial deployment, together with

FRX Polymers manufactures and markets a patented family of phosphorus-based flame retarded

additives which are themselves polymers. The company claims FRX Nofia products do not migrate out of

the host polymer and are melt processable, which makes them applicable to the blown film and fiber

spinning processes. Nofia products are transparent and the company claims the products provide flame

retardancy and transparency at once. Additionally, the company claims Nofia products have impact

resistance, mechanical and heat distortion properties of the host plastic. FRX has an extensive patent

estate (50 granted patents and 100 applications currently in prosecution), and the company's products

are registered for sale globally. The company's first commercial scale production facility exists in

Theme 2: New Approaches and Techniques for Growing Crops

Short Bio: Mr. Hillberg is co-founder of Heliospectra and CEO since 2010. He has a background in computer engineering and media from Apple Computer Europe/USA and was responsible for the online activities and MIT Media Lab relation of the Bonnier Group, the largest media group in Scandinavia. Following this he has built a number of high tech startups and then moved into venture capital and angel investments - Digital Illusions (acquired by Electronic Arts), Spotfire (acquired by Tibco), Wavemarket (acquired by AVM), and is a board member Procera Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq) since 2007 (rev. $80M). He holds an MBA from INSEAD.

Purpose of Trip: Heliospectra currently manufactures its products in Sweden but sources a large amount of components and subassemblies from China. Heliospectra is interested in establishing relationships with manufacturers, strategic partners for accessing the Chinese market and investors who invest in small- and micro-cap listed companies. Of special interest are growers of Chinese high value traditional medicinal herbs that are interested in using Heliospectra’s technology for improving their products.

Description:

Heliospectra specializes in intelligent lighting systems for growing crops. The company combines energy

efficient LEDs, remote sensing technologies, and advanced software to monitor, control and capture

data for plant science and horticulture applications. Heliospectra's products are based on plant

physiology and photosynthesis – as well as unique ways of utilizing modern LED technology. The system

significantly lowers energy use in the greenhouse industry, and improves crop quality to the point where

crops can be economically grown during winter time at northern latitudes. The system finds applications

in all sectors of plant growing such as the commercial greenhouse industry (vegetables, herbs, flowers),

forestry, interior urban landscaping, zoological and botanical gardens, industrial and academic research.

The company was listed on the Stockholm stock exchange in June 2014.

Short Bio: Anna Rath is a pioneer in the development of the dedicated energy crop industry. She founded

NexSteppe in 2010 to develop and commercialize optimized crops for the biofuels, biopower and

and has successfully brought to market and sold its first products. Commercial partners are trialing its

products in more than twenty countries on five continents. Rath was formerly Vice President of

Commercial Development for Ceres, where she built and launched their energy crop business. Prior to

Ceres, she was a consultant with McKinsey focused on corporate strategy, assessment of new business

initiatives, and business building in various technology sectors. She holds a JD from Yale Law School, an

MS in Genetics from the University of Michigan and a BA in Biology from Macalester College. She also

Short Bio: Andreas Stubelius is a Senior Project Manager at the Swedish Energy Agency. He is responsible for

developing the Agency’s portfolio companies. The portfolio consists of more than 60 cleantech

companies and Andreas has been involved in starting 15 of them. He has a long experience in seed

funding and has been working within the Energy sector for more than 10 years.

Andreas holds an engineering degree in power electronics and also one in corporate finance. He has

worked in various positions the last years and the last one in managing a project for the Swedish

Government.

Purpose of Trip: The Swedish Energy Agency supports many young upcoming clean technology companies in Sweden.

They have plans and programs to help such companies internationalize and grow into countries like

Germany, India and the US. They do not currently have such a program for China. This trip will serve to

help Andreas (and his colleague, Christopher) explore how they could help their companies in China and

whether such a program should be put in place.

OxyMem solves energy intensive wastewater treatment. Over 2.5% of global electricity production is

used in treating and pumping wastewater and this is largely due to the fact that biological Wastewater

Treatment relies on bubble aeration to deliver Oxygen to bacteria that breakdown Wastewater. This

process hasn’t changed for the last 100 years and typically results in a high energy losses because most

of the Oxygen is lost to atmosphere (60-80%). Energy Inefficiency in Wastewater treatment continues to

be one of the greatest challenges for the Water sector. OxyMem's breakthrough technology, the

Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR), does not rely on a bubble. OxyMem uses gas permeable

membranes (non porous) to deliver oxygen directly to the wastewater treating bacteria. The MABR uses

at least 4 times less energy, and costs less than traditional aeration systems. The MABR is capable of

achieving up to 95% oxygen transfer efficiency, as very little oxygen is lost to atmosphere. OxyMem

delivers an extensive range of superior operational advantages including; lower sludge production;

process resilience; small footprint; lower chemical costs; rapid installation.

medium and heavy duty trucks. Joe has over 30 years of experience in the automotive and truck

industries. Prior to helping found Odyne in 2009, Dalum worked for DUECO, Inc., a large U.S. final stage

manufacturer of medium and heavy duty trucks, for over 10 years in roles of increasing responsibility

including Engineering Manager, Vice President and Executive Vice President. Before joining DUECO,

Dalum worked for General Motors and Delphi for over 12 years in a variety of engineering and

Dalum has been granted ten U.S. patents in the area of automotive and hybrid technology. He is a

Short Bio: Richard Youngman is the tour leader. He is responsible for driving the growth of the Cleantech Group’s

activities outside North America, especially in Europe and Israel, and Asia. He is based in Cleantech

Group’s office in London.

Richard has more than five years’ experience researching cleantech innovation, venture capital markets,

and start-ups across Europe and globally. He is a regular keynote speaker at major cleantech events and

is the driving force behind the annual Global Cleantech 100, a list of the World’s most promising private

cleantech companies. Additionally, he authors blogs and periodic reports such as The Rise of the

Corporation in Cleantech.

Previously, Richard was Vice President of Research & Operations at Library House, where he ran the

Library House Research team, which discovered and collected information about high-growth

companies that underpinned that company’s data, analytical, and event services. Before Library House,

Richard ran his own advisory firm conducting research and consulting on the measurement and

evaluation of intangible assets and intellectual capital for organizations such as the European

Commission. This followed nine years building a broad-based finance and research background with

leading financial institutions such as ABN AMRO, Barclays Capital and BZW in the City of London. His

work was centered on the debt markets and revolved around financing M&A deals and advising clients

on achieving alignment between their financial and strategic plans. Richard has an MA from Cambridge

University and an MBA from Theseus International Management Institute, Sophia Antipolis, France.

Cleantech Group helps clients accelerate sustainable innovation. The company’s i3 platform allows

subscribers to discover companies and explore cleantech trends strategically with proprietary real-time

data. Cleantech Forums bring together thought leaders and innovators in the cleantech and

Purpose of Trip:

To continue Cleantech Group’s work in connecting global innovation. Specifically, Cleantech Group is providing strategic market entry services to western companies looking to get operational and potentially funded in China. Given the importance of this cross-border technology theme in cleantech today, Cleantech Group works with strategic partners here in China to arrange an annual tour (and other customised visits), and to provide ongoing implementation servies.

On this tour, specifically, Richard is here to help this tour group achieve their objectives of the week and to extend further his knowledge and network in “China Cleantech” and to meet leading companies and investors active in the cleantech community in China, especially the ones who wish to connect and collaborate with foreign technology companies.

Specifically, Leo conducts innovation sourcing, market trends analysis, and venture capital investments

China’s Cleantech Ecosystem: What You Need to Know, which provides a comprehensive analysis of

China’s cleantech activity since 2007, and Biofuels & Biochemicals Then and Now: Innovation Trends

Leo earned a B.S. in Biotechnology with a minor in Technology Management from the University of

California, Davis and a M.S. in Bioenergy from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He was born

in the City of Chengdu, China and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of twelve. He is fluent in Chinese.
