Main contact Jonathan England, Advocate for Scholarly Communication and Research Process, ORBilu coordinator, OpenAIRE National Open Access Desk [email protected]

Description Institute

Opened in September 2018, the Luxembourg Learning Centre is a unique and modern building that houses the library of the University of Luxembourg. It is a multifunctional space for learning and research with a wide range of spaces, services and innovative tools. Open to all, users include students, professors and researchers, but also school pupils and general members of the public. The library team is involved in providing all the services to the users, including services specific to the research community. Among those is the institutional repository (ORBilu) that gathers our researchers’ publications and make them Open Access. We also provide support and guidance on questions relating to the broader topics of scholarly communication and the research process (e.g. data management). The LLC is also engaged in promoting and showcasing research, using the spaces and tools provided in the building to publicise and bring forward research-related content to the library users.

Description Internship

Under the guidance and supervision of the LLC team, the intern will draft, design, organise and carry-out a research-related exhibition displayed at the LLC for a month (may be adapted depending on the needs of the exhibition). The variety of spaces and tools allows for a range of different communication formats and media, allowing the intern to tailor the exhibition depending on the project and their own interests. Examples of formats might include (e.g. DESCOM Comics, ‘The Museum of Extraordinary Objects’) a gamified activity (e.g. Open Science Quest, Open Access Escape Room), etc. The topic and focus of the exhibition is open and to be discussed depending on the intern’s own interests. Examples of topics might include showcasing a specific research project, engaging on a general topic of public interest, informing about the research process (e.g. being a researcher, the peer-review process, open source softwares, the issue with academic publishing and Open Access, data management). You can already come with an idea, but we can also brainstorm and identify a topic together. Depending on the project, you will gain knowledge and practical experience in:

developing a communication campaign from start to finish;

developing a visual identity for the exhibition;

designing materials using image, vector, text and/or video editors (e.g. GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus), or any other tools;

liaising with different actors, including the library team and any other partners required for the project;

time and event management, making sure everything and everyone is informed and runs as scheduled
