1. Father of Major James MONTGOMERY was born (date unknown). Don't have any information on either the father or mother of Major James Montgomery. Listed here as a way to tie his sisters, Mary and Emily G to him in the family tree.

All but one of James Montgomery’s siblings moved to Hardin Co. by the 1830’s. The 1833 state census lists brothers James, Joseph and Thomas. An 1838 land transaction recorded in Hardin Co. reveals that James and his brothers and sisters probably lived in Sumner Co. TN before moving to Hardin Co. In this transaction, James Montgomery, Joseph Montgomery, Thomas J. Montgomery, Jesse W. Holland and his wife Mary (Polly) Montgomery, Jno. (John) J. Jackson and his wife Emily G. Montgomery signed a deed to sell land in Sumner Co. TN to their brother Stephen Montgomery. Thomas sold his land in Hardin Co. to Guy S. Hale and left for Mississippi about this same time. 3. Major James MONTGOMERY (Father of Major James-1) was born about 1798 in Tennessee. He died before 7 Feb 1853 at the age of 55. James fought with General Andrew Jackson's forces against the Creek Indians at the Battle of

Horseshoe Bend on the Tallapoosa River in Alabama on March 27 1814. He received the title of Major as a result of his service. In 1824, Major James Montgomery moved to Hardin Co TN probably from Sumner Co Tn. He landed his boat near the Lick ford on White Oak Creek, and settled with his family on a spot one-half mile northwest of Shady Grove Church. Sometime during 1824, he built a mill on the west side of the river. His brother in law Jesse W Holland erected a tanyard near by.

I suspect that Elizabeth age 37 (1850 census) may possibly have been Maj James' second wife

It is very likely that Major James Montgomery is buried at Shady Grove since he lived here at the time of his death and the property, which was probably a private Montgomery Cemetery first, belonged to him at the time of his death. It is believed that many of the fileld stone markers near the origin of the cemetery very well could be Montgomery family members or close friends dating back to the 1825-1860's when markers that still survive til this day, began to appear. rg

Note from descendant of William B Montgomery: 1850 Hardin County Census James Montgomery (age 52) is married to Elizabeth (age 31). James states that his occupation is "blacksmith." Elizabeth states that she was born in Alabama, while James says he was born in Tennessee. The 9 Montgomery children listed range in age from 23 to 1. Since Elizabeth is only 31, many of those children can't be hers, including William, our ancestor. All children are listed as being born in Tennessee. Also living with the Montgomerys are 5 children aged 10-18. Three appear to have the last name "Holland." The other two appear to have the last name "Tergan."

6 DEC 1839 is the date of birth that is calculated by her age on the headstone and her death date, yet her est year of birth from a census (not sure which one now) is 1819. The 1910 census has her as 70 years old so the caclculate birth date based on headstone info is being use till better info is found.

one internet genealogy source suggest that she was born 16 sep 1837. I don't know which to believe with credibility at this point so I am sticking to the one that is on her headstone for now.

There was no indications of a recently deceased infant in Mar 1900. The year may not be accurate as it is almost imposible to see in 2010. Could have been any year from 1901 to 1906 when Sarah Jane died (Mar 20 1906) (possibility of even being 1906)

Beard of Jackson, whom he married June 4, 1939; a son, Frank Holland Beard and wife Jann of Atlanta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Kacey Beard Stuckey of Dothan, Alabama and Holly Beard Evans of Charlotte, N.C.; and one great granddaughter, Katherine Raulston Evans. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Pallbearers to serve will be Wayne Powers, James Singleton, David Watlington, Alan Morris, Bill Alexander, David Stanfill, Don Bailey and Larry Kent. in-law, Bennie Yates and Imogene Yates; 3 grandchildren, Johnnie (Stephanie) Snider and their son, Zaylen; Jonathon (Rachel) Snider and their soon to be born son, Mason; and Micaela (Michelle) Snider; 2 step grandchildren, April (David) Smith and their children, Jacob, Lillie, Hailey and Wesley; and Kimberly Lassiter and her children, Breana and Kinsley; and lots of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lou Ella Yates; her husband, Johnnie Bell Snider; 1 son, John D. Snider; 3 brothers, James Yates, Willard Yates and Allen Yates.

Funeral services will be on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11 a.m., at Reed's Chapel in Lexington, with burial to follow in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. till service.
