Brief history of the Department:-

One of the first departments of Dentistry that was established in the year

of 1986 as a part of Vinayaka Mission's Sankarachariyar Dental College. The

department is conducting UG (BDS) Program with intake of 100 students, PG

( MDS) program with intake of 2 students , Ph.D program under the

curriculum given by Dental council of India and Dental Mechanics (DM) 20

technician students. Department of Prosthodontics also has Dental Implant

training modules each year.

OUTLINE SYLLABUS OF EACH COURSE:

1 BDS The student shall have a knowledge of the basis of dental

materials, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, implant

dentistry and maxilla facial prosthesis

2 MDS The student should have a thorough knowledge of dental materials,

removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, implant dentistry

and maxilla facial prosthesis

3 Dental Mechanics

The student shall have a knowledge of the basis of dental materials, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, implant

dentistry with laboratory training and fabrication of all kind of prosthesis.

SIGNIFICANCE AND FACILITIES IN THE DEPARTMENT:

The department focuses not just on patient care, but also gives equal emphasis to innovative teaching

methodologies and research. A separate casting and ceramic lab with the latest equipment and material,

capable of functioning as a dental laboratory to fulfil the needs of patients.
