  • The College of Engineering, Guindy, the main campus of the University is one of the oldest technical institutions in India. Its origin dates back to 1794, which was established as Survey School by East India Company. The Survey School was first expanded into a Civil Engineering School in 1858 and then upgraded into a college in 1859. The University offers 45 Under Graduate programmes and 108 post Graduate Programmes along with M.Phill, M.S.(By Research) and Ph.D. Programmes.

Anna University was established in September 1978 as a unitary type of technical university

    (1945)

amalgamating four institutions: College of Engineering Guindy, A C College of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology and School of Architecture and Planning. All there four institutions each with a long history and distinct characteristics of own, provided a fertile reservoir of resources from which the nascent university has been formed and grown to its present stature.

The University receives grants from the state and central governments, national and international agencies, and industrial houses. It has an extensive link with Indian industries, national research laboratories and international universities. This enables the university to keep with new development and emerging technologies.
