Dental Care 101 - Everything You Should Know!
You can become an active agent in your dental care regimen instead of waiting for your
dentist to clean your teeth. Don't you want to do as much as you can in between dental
checkups? Of course you do, so keep reading to learn more information.
Just because mint is something that is not appealing to you or the rest of your family, always
keep up with your brushing! There are toothpastes available in lots of other flavors that kids
and adults enjoy. Try different flavors until you find one your kids like. You can even find
alternatives in a health food store or directly from your dentist.
If your dentist says you need deep cleaning, visit another dentist for a second opinion. If your
insurance company does not cover the costs of deep cleaning, the second opinion will let you
know if it is absolutely necessary or not.
Do not only brush the surfaces when brushing your teeth. You also need to brush underneath
your gums to clean out any food residue that remains there. Many cavities form below the
gum line. By brushing your gums you can help protect against these cavities.
Do you have frequent bad breath and/or dry mouth? If so, the blame may be your
prescription medicine. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you are at increased risk of
having dental problems. Talk to your doctor to see whether or not your medication is causing
your dry mouth. It it is, then you might need to switch medications if possible. If that's not the
case, your dentist may be able to recommend treatment for the dry mouth issues.
Do you get tartar easily? If so, purchase a toothpaste and mouthwash designed for tartar
control. Start from the inside of lower teeth as well as molars. These are the most prone to
tartar. Regularly visit the dentist to remove tartar.
Are you considering getting your tongue pierced? Well, think twice before you do. Germs are
rampant inside your mouth, and even a meticulous cleaning cannot eliminate them all.
Furthermore, oral piercings of any kind can chip the enamel on your teeth and make you
more vulnerable to infection. If you don't get this checked out immediately, you could even
lose some of your tongue!

Brush every single one of your teeth very carefully and gently. Brushing too hard will harm
your gums and teeth. If it hurts your gums, get a softer toothbrush.
Don't ever chew on ice. When you do this, it may crack your teeth. This gives bacteria a toe-
hold to create cavities. Be careful if you eat popcorn, nuts or other hard foods. If you believe
you have cracked a tooth, make an appointment with your dentist.
