This Course Will Cover:

Preparing to enter the dental field :

Students will be instructed on proper interviewing techniques and how to create a professional resume. Our

students will work in an actual dental setting. All of the instructors are Dental professionals. Teachers consist of

Dentists, Dental Assistants and Dental Hyienists with years of experience in their field.

Orientation to Dentistry :

This unit provides students with information concerning the roles of the dental team. It allows the students to

become familiar with the flow, maintenance and equipment found in a dental office. At home textbook reading

combined with a "laymans" explanation of the reading material in the form of a workbook is offered.

Disinfection & Sterilization:

This unit provides students with information and practice regaurding sterilization, disinfection, OSHA standards.

Instruments & treatment room care.

Dental Anatomy:

Students will learn how to identify primary and permanent teeth. They will learn to identify parts of the mouth,

teeth, surfaces of the teeth and oral surroundings.

Radiology:

Students will be introduced to techniques of taking x-ray films and exposing them using operation safety. Students

will practice taking x-ray films using a paralleling technique, developing, and mounting them.

Instruments and Cements:

Students will learn to identify major hand instruments, burs, and hand pieces. They be taught instrumentation to

basic restorative procedures. Different types of cements will be introduced for recognition & manipulation for

their applications.

Introduction to Four Handed Dentistry :

Students will learn instrument passing and suctioning techniques, verbal skills, patient care instruction. They will

be introduced to a variety of methods of anesthesia used in the dental office. Patient care and administration

using HIPPA requirements are covered. Students will learn how to assemble a syringe,, patient education, post­

operative patient instruction, and patient hand off procedures to help create the ability to achieve a future patient

to have a smooth dental experience.

Introduction to Specialties Fields:

Students will be familiarized with Oral surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Pedodontics, and Orthodontics and

some of the instruments common to the specialty fields.

Diagnostics:

Students will be taught to give brushing & flossing instruction. Taught to take impressions, pour and trim models

and make bleach trays.

Front Desk:

Telephone and appointment book scheduling using a paper schedule and computer dental software . Addressing

patients using verbal skills to collect payment, creating appointments and understanding a recall system are

covered in this module. Verbal skills are discussed. We cover creating and managing patient records and files in

accordance with the Government Privacy Policy Act and state law. Dentrix Dental Software and laptop computers

are used to perfect charting and coding technique.

Schools Refund· Policy:

All tuition is subject to the following prorated refund policy;

The total of the program is $4000

The Registration Fee of $150 is non- refundable after 5 business days of registration.

The registration fee will be retained by the school unless written notice of cancellation is

received within five business days of registration date.

This fee holds the students spot in the upcoming class and allows the school to order a

uniform and books that are included in the program, before the class session begins.

The remaining $3850 is subject to the following prorated refund policy:

Formula:

$3850 divided by 12 classes

Each class= $320.83 This is the portion of tuition and instructional charges which the school

may retain for each class.

Upon written notice of cancellation the student will be responsible for the accumulating

classes made to the date of withdrawal & signed by administration & student.

The student needs to be proficient in speaking, writing, reading and comprehending the

English language.

At home reading will be required.

Dental Assisting Technologies uses an accumulated grading scale.

Each student begins the session with O points & has the ability to add points to their score

thru attendance, participation, completion of tasks, quizzes and exams. Each student has the

ability to earn up to 1000 points by the completion of the program. A score of 700 is required

to complete this course (70%).

or. Joseph D. Jack.son DMD, A Quad City native, Dr. Jackson graduated from United Township High School in East Moine. He then received his Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana­Champaign. Dr. Jackson received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Southern Illinois University of Dental Medicine. He is an active member in the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American

Trisha Price is a 2003 graduate of Excel Training Systems School of Dental Assisting in Rock Island, n.. She has been employed since as a chairside dental assistant and receptionist. She has also recieved her Associate's Degree from Black Hawk Colege Moline, n. and has started her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Western n. University Moine , n..Tricia Is trained in both Eagle Soft and Dentrix software. She looks forward to help.-lg new students transition into a new career.

Dena Ross began her career In dental assisting in 1992 whle living in her home town of Las Vegas, Nevada. Over her many years in the field she has gained knowledge in aR areas of the dental office. She has had practice management training with 1he Pride i'lsttute. She has worked with the Dentrbc and Eaglesoft software. Dena has also instructed Hatha Yoga for years. She finds teaching to be a gratifying part of her life. She makes a "positive experience• a personal goal in her lfe and through her methods of training students.

Donna Bick is a Quad City native, having attended United Township H"igh School, Black Hawk college, and Dental Assisting Technologies. She has been employed as a Registered Dental Assistant since 2007. She has received clinical training with Cerec, Invisalign, Sleep Solutions and digital radiography. Donna has also received practice management training with The Levin Group. She has enjoyed participating in the Give Kids A Smile program . She looks forward to helping others learn skils for a rewarding and fulfilling career as a Dental Assistant .

Jeanine Mack attended Black Hawk Colleges' Dental Assisting Program in 1983 . She has been enjoying the dental field ever since. She has experience an of the dental office duties, specializing in Dental Assisting . Jeanine has had Cerec training. experience with Dentrbc software, Softdent dental software and digital radiography. She has had 13 years of administrative experience as weU. She enjoys the adventures of the ever changing improvem ents of dentistry and the positive impact that is made on a patients smile as a result . She hopes to be able to convey the importance of being a caring and conscientious dental professional to her students.

STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

The mission of our dental school is to educate our students to the best

of our ability, so that society benefits from our achievements.

Our objective is to sense, serve, and satisfy the needs of our students

with the highest quality of care. We will continually strive for

excellence.

Our students must be responsible and highly motivated individuals who

are excited to be part of the team. Each student will be expected to act

in a positive manner with an absolute commitment. Each Student will

be expected and required to participate .

The Instructors are expected to continually upgrade their knowledge of

- management and clinical skills to meet the needs of our students. The

Instructors will help and motivate the students to reach their goal.

Our Philosophy recognizes that this will be a big chance in our student's

lives. We offer them a brighter future in a wonderful field. We believe

that success is not the end of the journey but the journey itself.

Grade Scale

Grading is received with hands on testing & written testing. Attendance & participat ion also play part

in the grad ing. The grading scale is based on a 1000 point cumulative system . Denta l Assisting

Technologies uses an accumulated grading scale. Each student begins the session with 0 points & has

the ability to add points to their score thru attendance , participation , completion of tasks, quizzes and

exams . The tasks, quizzes & exams have different point values. Each student has the ability to earn

up to 1000 points by the completion of the program. A score of 700 is required to complete the program (70%) successfully .

*N ote Students tha t have failed the exam will have one chance to retake a revised Final Exam to get a

passing grade. Students that fail the exam twice will be given one opportunity to retake Instruction for

the failed component of Final Ha_nds on Testing. Exam with an instructor in a one on one forma t before

being given the opportunity of retaking the Final Hands on Testing Exam a second t ime.

Veteran's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Veterans must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress in orde r to continue train ing at the school.

To maintain satisfactory academic progress, veterans must complete the module with at least 70% grade {700 points) , complete the module with in the specified time period for the program , and

maintain at least an 80% attendance rate for the module. Failure to achieve these requirements in

the module will result in a veteran failing the module and being placed on probation .

Veterans on probation wilt be required to retake the module that they have failed. Veterans on

probation can receive federal veterans educational benefits for this module that they are required to retake. Veterans that fail to successfully complete the module for which they are required to take

while on probation will be dismissed from Denta l Assisting Technolog ies.

Reinstatement

Students dismissed for falling to meet satisfactory academic progress policy can petition the school for

reinstatement one year after being dismissed. Reinstatement decisions will be made on an indiv idua l

basis by a Dental Assisting Technologies advisor and will take into consideration whether the stude nt

has the desire and capability to successfully complete the program . Veterans dismissed for conduct

will not be tons idered for reinstatement.
