Building The Manapouri Power Station
The construction of the Manapouri hydro station or power station was a huge achievement. This project took 1,800 engineers eight years to complete, in harsh weather.
The project involved constructing the power station 200 metres below a granite mountain.
The project was completed with drill and blast excavation methods. These method helped to carve through the Fiordland rock.

A Waterfall is a cascade of water falling from a height, formed when a river or stream flows over a cliff or steep incline. Waterfalls could be formed by earthquakes, gla-ciers, volcanoes and water erod-ing rock. Some examples of wa-terfalls you might see in Deep Cove are Helena Falls, Hanging
Valley Falls and many more you will encoun-ter during the boat trip to Mana-pouri.

The wildlife in Deep Cove includes dol-phins, seals and many native birds. Deep Cove is surrounded with beech trees and other species of native trees.

Fishing in Deep Cove is real fun. Catching varieties of fish such as Jock Stewart, sharks, spotties and many more species.
But you will need a rod, patience and a boat.
