RALEIGH METROPOLITAN APICULTURE CENTERFifth Year Studio / Spring 2012
This facility’s purpose is to educate the community about urban beekeeping. The building’s form, a permeable core protected by a uniform outer shell, is representative of the way in which a beehive resides within the hollow of a tree. The core of the building is visually and physically open to the south, gathering light and directing views out across the landscape.

SOLID WALNUT, BALTIC BIRCH PLYWOODChair Design - Construction Class / Spring 2012
With this chair, I wanted to create the ideal chair for working, or reading, or eating, or just sitting. Something about a round seat seemed very welcoming and I wanted to mirror that invitation with the back rest. The legs are joined to the back and cross bracing pieces via simple mortise and tenon joints. The pursuit of a simplicty of materials and joinery emphasizes their purity and beauty.

This urban recreational facility captures and enhances the motion of the city through transparency and reflection. By day, the expansive glass facade partially reflects the motion and activity of the city while providing inviting views to the interior for visitors. By night, the building serves as beacon of light inviting city dwellers to the Brightleaf Square mixed - use complex.
