THE 2017 VIENNESE WINTER BALLSaturday February 4th, 2017

A Canadian twist to an old traditionThe most popular and unique feature of Ottawa’s Viennese Winter Ball is the presentation of the Debutantes and Cavaliers in a traditional Polonaise to open the evening. Dressed in floor length white ball gowns and black tuxedos, the young dancers share with ball guests the results of months of hard work and immersion in Austrian culture.

How to Become a Debutante or CavalierThe Ball looks for up to 15 young cavaliers and 15 young debutantes who would enjoy gaining an important cultural experience. The Ball is more than learning to dance waltzes - it is about appreciating Austrian culture and helping the community through their part in this fundraising event.

The Selection ProcessStudents meeting the age requirement* from across the city are welcome to submit their application to the Ball Selection Committee. There are two stages to the selection process: applications will be reviewed for completeness and suitability. On Saturday December 10th, those selected for the second stage will be invited to participate in a 10-minute individual interview with the Selection Committee as well as a group dance session. No previous waltz experience is required. The final selection announcement will be announced the week of December 12th.
