Congratulations Year 12 Debutantes
Our gorgeous students were treated to a delicious brunch of hot cross buns and hot chocolate this morning. A big thank you to our Year Level Coordinators for
organising the tasty treats.
Wishing all our families a very happy Easter break from all of the Staff here
at Alex Secondary College. Winners are Grinners….. Our Parents and Friends Group
would like to thank everyone for their support of our Easter Fundraiser. We would like to thank Reddrop Footwork's for generously donating some of the Easter eggs in our “Guess how many eggs” competition. Pictured left is our winner Kate Mullins. There were 411 eggs, and Kate won with a
guess of 409! We raised over $500.00
Principals’ Report
Our Year 9s had a fantastic time at their camp in Angelsea last week. This was the traditional surf camp they were meant to enjoy last year. This camp really helps cement the bonds in the year level, as well as being great fun with many opportunities to enjoy coastal activities such as surfing. Thanks to Naomi Kenner, Mark Davies, Phil Kim, Maree Boliancu and Con Crowley for generously giving their week to look after our students. Many
thanks to Naomi Kenner and Sarah Ough for their superb organisation of the Year 9 camp.
Last Saturday night was a night of glitz and glamour for our Year 12s at the postponed “2020” Debutante Ball. Our Debutantes danced wonderfully. The organising committee of Michelle Jack, Anne Baird, Karen Armstrong, Christy Snow, Jodie Coward, Eliza McCarthy, Michelle Christie, Jude Cinerarii, Larnie Arnett, Kirsten Humphries and Kelly Wilkinson did an outstanding job, in trying covid conditions to give our students a night they deserved and will always remember. Whitney Connaughton and Lucy Whitehead did an amazing job preparing our dancers,
effectively twice, for the Debutante Ball.
The “Deb Ball” and the “Year 8 surf camp” are two big events that our students look forward to in their lives as an Alexandra Secondary College student. It is fantastic that our students have not missed out on these great
events, events that are a natural rite of passage. Our thanks go to the many people that made them happen.
Our staff enjoyed their virtual conversations with families on Tuesday night. We hope that the Student/Parent/Teacher Evening and the Interim reports will help students refocus their goals and strategies to make Term 2 even better than Term 1. We would love to receive feedback from families regarding how they found the virtual
interviews.
Steve McIntosh retired today, our current Narbethong bus driver. He has driven students to our school for 35 years with McKenzie’s’ buses. We wish Steve well in his retirement and thank him for his cheerful and caring
service to our school and students.
We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break.
Every day of learning makes a positive impact. Well done to Bainbridge who have won the House 100 points for
attendance this term (they have the greatest percentage of students with over 90% attendance), Long were 2nd
and get 60 points, Weinberg came third and receive 40 points.

Easter Holidays
OUR STUDENTS ARE TALKING ABOUT …..
I am really looking forward to our mini
holiday this Easter Break. We are heading
off to Tamworth with some family
friends.
ANNIKA HUNTER
I’ll be working on some of the holidays,
however I will get a break when we go
down to Warrnambool and visit family.
I'm also looking forward to Mums roast
lunch on Easter Sunday.
DANIEL COLLETT
I haven't got a lot planned for these
holidays, I will definitely be catching up
on some homework, but I’ll also make
sure I make time to head into the city
with my friends.
AMANDA MCDONALD
And for our Parents……
As our climate cools we ask our parents to use the holidays to ensure students have warm uniform for the autumn and
winter terms. Cold weather is not an excuse for being out of uniform. Wearing layers is important eg College Shirt,
College woollen jumper, College jacket. Also students can wear a long sleeved plain white, grey or black skivvy/shirt under
their College T-Shirt – no hoods allowed. Students can wear any layer under their uniform that we cannot see,
e.g thermals. Students may also wear gloves, hats and scarves of their choice outside of class.

CONGRATULATIONS to Noel Karunathilake, who used an algebraic method to solve the Challenging Problem for the Year 9 Maths Extension
Group last week.
Here is the problem:
What happens when 1 is added to the product of four consecutive numbers, for example
2×3×4×5+1=121.
Try this for some other sets of four consecutive numbers. What do you notice? Is this always true? Can you prove your conjecture?
His answer: A perfect square! The rule he found is: (x2 + 3x +1)2
