Part two: workshops
Sustainability is development that meets
the needs of the present generation
without compromising therefore the
possibilities for development of the next
generation (Brundlant 1987)
Education for sustainability in our
schools/university-colleges
ES is not in the Belgian
curriculum
• but should be integrated into the different
subjects,
• it can be also included in themes or projects
about environmental school
= It is more than that
• children learn to look at a problem or dilemma
from a certain view
• MOS = milieu op school
sustainability at school
• A challange for the whole schoolteam
TO DO! (DIGITAL LEARNING MATERIAL)
• Provide a classroom/ school activity
your target group / age / developmental level
=
– early childhood education
– primary school
– secondary school
Goal of the workshop
creating an exercise with an
exciting challenge
– coming up with creative solutions
– stimulating research attitude
– developing interesting ideas
= Involvement
= close to reality
Take care…….
• Do not take everything at once
• Invest long- term vision
• Broad support (Not only teachers and
children but also parents, cleaning staff,
administration… direction)
• Examples: • We want a low-waste school
• we want to get the energy consumption down
• we want a real green school
• ………..
3 P’s
• Linking the three P’s (profit, people,
planet) makes the children/students to
realise the essence of sustainability,
Didactic principles
Pay attention to the didactic
principles
attention: think about
• Vision and planning
• Involvement: clarify the objectives
• Support:
• Communication: parents, schoolteam….
• Embedding: permanent agreements
• Provide a concrete description of the
activity
• Identify the material you need (play
materials, assignment sheet, text…)
• References…
After the lecture and the workshop,
students produce a report that:
• Presents perspectives for implementing
programs of inclusive education good
practices
• The relevance for you as teacher /own
learning outcomes;
• The academic benefits
• The teamwork
5 GROUPS = 5 THEMES
Group/ peer assessment
