Dear Third Grade Parents,

My name is Ana Bermudez and I will be your child’s English Teacher

for this school year!! I hope that you and your family had a great summer

break and are ready to begin an exciting year at Washington Academy.

I would like to share some valuable information about each subject.

This will be our Third Grade English routine:

Grammar is given on Mondays. Students will have a language book

provided by the school for the year. We will use the book in class every

Monday; however they should take the book for Homework or to study. There

will always be a warm up activity that will refresh previous knowledge and

review any preceding topic. Each lesson will be explained and discussed in

class and reinforced with oral activities. Class Work (CW) and Homework

(HW) must be done in their Grammar notebook. HW is due every Thursday,

and if he or she didn’t finish the CW, they have until Thursday to deliver it

with the HW. Please remind them to paste the worksheets assigned inside their

Grammar notebook if there is so. Once a chapter is covered we will have a

short test to assess the learning process and it will be announced in the

monthly calendar and the Communication Notebook (CNB).

Tuesdays are for Creative Writing; a fun topic or theme will be

provided to get them inspired to develop their writing skills. We will generally

have a game or enthusiastic activity that will help them brainstorm on the

topic chosen for that day. Students should complete their work in class, but if

they don’t, they have until the next day (Wednesday) to bring it to class. This

weekday we also take a few minutes for the Spelling Practice. The purpose is

aiming at getting familiar with the upcoming Spelling Test on Friday. For this,

we will use the Spelling Book, so remind them to bring the book along with

the Spelling HW, which is for the same day.

Science is on Wednesdays, where they work discussing each lesson,

interacting with games or possible experiments indoors or outdoors. Using

their Science book, provided by the school, as support and the Science

notebook for class work, they search for the vocabulary words at the back of

the book and answer the questions related to the lesson. Any incomplete

assignment can be done at home but independently, and be back at school the

next day. At the end of every Unit, they will have a chapter test. Projects or

experiments may be assigned.

On Thursday, we have Poetry, a new poem will be presented to the

class and copied in the Poetry folder. It will be read aloud, and doubts on new

vocabulary will be clarified during the group session. As homework students

will memorize the poem for the next poetry class, and they will be called out

randomly. Help your child to give the poem his/her own personal touch

through intonation, rhythm and tone of voice. On this day, we will have Story

Time, a time for students to listen to and discuss a story. This will help them

improve their English oral comprehension skills. We will also have Book

Reports every two weeks. They will have a craft or written assignment to

achieve and will be sent in the Book Report folder. The details will be notified

in the monthly calendar and the Communication Notebook (CNB).

At the beginning of the term we will choose a Show and Tell topic for

them to share among the group. Students will be notified, through the CNB,

when their Show and Tell is due. They will have enough time to prepare their

presentation in school. Presentations should be simple (using their own words

and vocabulary), from 6 to 7 minutes. Students can use charts, pictures, music

or any other material that helps them explain and illustrate their topic.

And finally, on Fridays we have Spelling. In Spelling we have a

notebook for CW and HW and a book given by the school. Every Friday, a

new unit will be taught and the previous unit will be evaluated in their

Spelling Test folder. The Spelling Test folder will be sent the same day with

their test results, which they must return signed the next Tuesday. Spelling

Homework is due on Tuesday.

HW is not new material or exploration of concepts that the students

have not seen before. Consequently, when helping your child with HW, you

should keep in mind:

● Feel free to read your child’s work aloud to him/her exactly as

written. ● Ask your child questions about the assignment to help clarify

his/her thinking, but please do not rewrite or accomplish the

assignment for your child as it prevents me from using her/his

own work to plan specific lessons to meet your child’s needs.

Please contact me if any HW is difficult for your child.

Notice that helping your child to work independently is very important.

Let them know that they are the ones responsible for their assignments. Please

ask your child about the HW and trust them. Please check the HW and always

read what is written in the CNB.

Queridos padres y representantes:

Reciban un cordial saludo; las maestras de segundo grado seremos María Teresa Lares y

Edith Yépez y tenemos el inmenso placer de recibir a sus hijos. Hoy estamos comenzando un

nuevo año escolar, en el cual compartiremos muchas experiencias que esperamos sean

enriquecedoras. A lo largo del curso es necesario que formemos un gran equipo, en el cual

podamos trabajar para desarrollar habilidades, reforzar buenos hábitos de trabajo y fomentar

valores personales, para que de esta manera le demos a nuestros niños, herramientas y

conocimientos que les serán útiles a lo largo de sus vidas.

En Academia Washington, se imparten en español dos materias: Castellano y Ciencias

Sociales.

La materia de Castellano engloba las siguientes áreas de trabajo y estudio: Ortografía,

Gramática, Lectura y Redacción las cuales se distribuyen a lo largo de la semana de la siguiente

manera:

Ortografía: se trabaja el lunes en base a una lista de 20 palabras que corresponden a una regla

ortográfica; se evalúa los días viernes mediante un dictado y el buen uso de la palabra en su

contexto a través de la escritura de oraciones.

Gramática: se trabaja martes y jueves; se tratan contenidos adaptados a su nivel escolar y edad.

La evaluación se realizará una vez al mes, con una prueba mensual realizada generalmente los

días jueves en base a los contenidos vistos. Se les avisará con tiempo.

Ciencias Sociales: se trabaja cada miércoles con su cuaderno de actividades de Sociales. La

evaluación es continua y, si fuera el caso, las tareas son para entregarlas el miércoles siguiente.

Redacción: se trabaja los días jueves. Se escribe sobre temas variados para fomentar su

creatividad y desarrollar destrezas para escribir diferentes tipos de textos. Deberán realizar una

ilustración haciendo referencia a lo escrito. Se evalúa semanalmente, si el trabajo queda

incompleto, su representado debe llevarlo a casa, culminarlo y entregarlo el día viernes.

Lectura comprensiva: se trabaja todos los lunes y viernes. Se tomará en cuenta: tono de voz,

entonación, fluidez, pronunciación y comprensión.

Reportes del libro: un día al mes se les entregará un libro a cada niño el cual deberán leer en

casa durante 2 semanas y el día asignado presentarán una prueba de comprensión en clase, para

ese día deberán traer de regreso el libro que les fue prestado. Por favor se ruega cuidar el libro y

no perderlo o dañarlo.

Caligrafía: se trabaja cada viernes con cierto número de páginas que deberán hacer en el salón y

no podrán llevárselo a casa, deben aprender a hacer buen uso de su tiempo.

La evaluación es continua, toma en cuenta la participación activa del alumno, la presentación

de sus cuadernos, actividades en el aula, interrogatorios informales, responsabilidad con sus

deberes escolares y evaluaciones escritas. Por eso es importante que lleven la materia al día y

repasen periódicamente los contenidos impartidos. Es necesario que las evaluaciones escritas

sean firmadas por ustedes, para que puedan llevar un control del desempeño de su

representado.

Dear Third Grade parents,

Welcome to this year’s course in Math.

Math is always a challenging and fun

subject. In third grade your child will

review addition, subtraction and learn

place value to a million. The core of this

grade’s work will be in learning

multiplication and division facts. For

multiplication and division I will need

plenty of help at home so that your child

can review facts daily.

The biggest change this year will be the use of a notebook, success in Math will depend on

the cleanliness and tidiness of the notebook. Therefore, we will work hard the first weeks

on how to use the notebook. The notebook will go home every day so that your child can

complete their homework, if they don’t finish class work in class they will have to finish it

at home for the next day.

A Math book was given to them at the start of the school year for use at home; this is so

they can do their homework without having to bring the book back and forth. Please take

good care of it so that others can use it next year too. They will have a book in the

classroom for class assignments. If your child stays in school for after school activities

there will be a book available for them to borrow for their homework, please leave the

lent book at home.

Class routine will be pretty much the same: checking homework, the day’s lesson and class

work. Chapter tests will be announced a week before the set date.

Evaluations take place every day with active participation in class, completion of the class

work and responsibility with homework.

Reading 2nd and 3rd Grades

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Reading Program 2017-2018.

As you well know our school fosters reading in our students as much as possible, for we

understand reading is a key element, not only to literacy, but to success in school as well. Besides,

a keen reader has always proven to have an easier access to knowledge, information, and overall

intellectual and cultural growth, among other benefits. Reading has also an influence over

vocabulary and language structure building, fluency and expression in speaking, style in writing,

and even spelling, among other details. It really influences language and communication in

general. Therefore, our school gives great importance to it.

In these two grades we will assign four periods a week exclusively to reading and related reading

activities. In those classes, students read in smaller groups which may vary in size or number, from

four to six twice a week and from 10 to twelve twice a week too. Groups are formed according to

students’ reading abilities, so as to ensure we can meet more of their specific reading needs, in

order to help them continue developing this important skill.

Teachers will be either Patricia or Ivette twice a week. Then Cristina, their 2nd grade Math teacher,

twice a week too, for 2nd grade. And Ana María, their 3rd grade teacher, twice a week too, for 3rd

grade.

We invite you to accompany your child and us in this pleasant task of learning to become a

lifetime reader, for which we count on you to ensure your child keeps a daily reading practice at

home too, thus becoming part of this reading team, in which Book Report plays an important part.

This reading practice is essential for your child at this stage, so please make it a regular homework

routine. We cannot emphasize this enough! Suggested time is a minimum of 10 minutes daily for

2nd grade and a minimum of 15 minutes daily for 3rd grade to start with. This needs to take place all

year round, including vacation time.

Working together we will help your child enjoy, progress, and be successful.

Asignatura: Educación Física y para la Salud

Estimados padres y representantes, ante todo les quiero expresar un cariñoso saludo de bienvenida y mis mejores deseos para que este

año escolar esté lleno de muchos aprendizajes y grandes logros académicos, deportivos y sobre todo, mucha salud para enfrentar con

energías todos los obstáculos que se le puedan presentar durante todos estos meses.

Mi nombre es Pablo Torrealba, soy el profesor de Educación Física de toda primaria (varones) y el entrenador de Atletismo en las

actividades extra cátedra.

Trabajo en la Academia Washington desde 1989 cuando todos los arboles tenían un metro de estatura. Quiero que sepan que la Educación

Física es ante todo juego, diversión y desarrollo de un estilo saludable de vida a través de la práctica de los deportes (baloncesto, atletismo,

voleibol, beisbol, entrenamiento físico, juegos pre deportivos, juegos pedagógicos entre otros).

La Educación Física en la Academia Washington se imparte todos los días de la semana, lo significa que el colegio le da la importancia

debida como una actividad que potencia el desarrollo de un ciudadano saludable y estimula un estilo de vida con normas de

comportamiento, de solidaridad y de cohesión social.

La importancia que le da el colegio a la Educación Física tiene grandes objetivos:

Ayuda a que nuestros niños controlen su peso corporal, eviten la obesidad, se disminuya el riesgo a contraer algunas enfermedades como

la diabetes, el asma, reduce la tensión arterial, disminuye los triglicéridos, corregir la postura corporal, aumentar la energía, mejorar la

alineación de sus segmentos corporales (columna, cadera, malas pisadas, ejecutar los movimientos correctamente, mantener fuerte el

corazón, pulmones, músculos, huesos, etc.). Para lograr esto es importante el uso de un calzado adecuado, confortable, con buena

amortiguación y sobre todo seguros.

También se pueden indicar algunos beneficios psicológicos: Desarrollo del autocontrol, de la autoconfianza, de la autoestima, de la

identidad, favorece la integración del niño en la sociedad y su relación con su entorno, ayuda a conocer y a disfrutar de su cuerpo,

aprender reglas, ayuda a la superación de la timidez.

Al tener niños más colaboradores y menos individuales, se potenciará la creatividad y la regulación de buenos hábitos, estimulará la

higiene y una alimentación adecuada.

Los niños, a través de la Educación Física, aprenderán a manejar la rivalidad deportiva entre iguales, a superar frustraciones, a conocer y a

reconocer la autoridad y el respeto.

Decálogo para los padres y un buen deportista:

Hago deporte para pasarla bien, ganar no es lo más importante, pero sí lo es ganar la gran competencia de la vida.

Debemos animar, pero nunca insultar, debemos aprender a perder y a ganar, tratar a los demás como te gustaría que te trataran a ti.

Delegar en el entrenador y profesor la tarea de la educación deportiva con respeto.

Transmitir respeto y cordialidad hacia los profesores, es un gran ejemplo para los niños. Muéstrale comprensión y apoyo cuando pase por

un mal rato.

Y para finalizar estimadas familias; lo que queremos es una educación deportiva con un estilo de vida saludable, estimular y modificar

hábitos de vida hacia comportamientos más equilibrados.

La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) señala que entre todos los factores importantes para la salud, están la alimentación-ejercicio, y

la Educación Física como la principal responsable para estimular y educar al niño, al adolescente y al futuro adulto, ya que es aquí donde

afianzan sus creencias, actitudes y valores.

Así que, ¡a trabajar duro!

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de computación!

Ante todo reciban un cordial saludo, mi nombre es Layla Lobo, es un gusto y

un honor poder compartir con ustedes y sus hijos durante este año escolar

2017-2018.Impartiré clases en Preescolar y Primaria hasta 5º (6th).

En preescolar, los niños tendrán la oportunidad de ir familiarizándose y

conociendo la computadora, a través de actividades lúdicas y juegos

adecuados para niños de su edad.

En primaria, estaremos trabajando con Microsoft Office bajo el ambiente de

Windows 7, con los programas Microsoft Word, PowerPoint y Publisher,

también trabajaremos con Scrath, Code, Gmail y Drive.

Los alumnos de 5°grado (6th) se iniciarán en el “Programas de Años

Intermedios” (PAI). Este programa consiste en la enseñanza de los contenidos

en base a conceptos y enmarcada dentro de contextos globales significativos

para lograr un alumno con una serie de atributos que lo harán un mejor

“ciudadano del mundo”, una persona reflexiva e indagadora, capaz de regular

su propio aprendizaje.

Los trabajos y actividades de la materia serán realizados en el mismo salón,

por ello es necesario que los alumnos de primaria tengan su pen drive

identificado con su nombre, el cual permanece en el salón hasta finalizar el

año escolar.

¡Bienvenidos al taller de Arte!

Queridos representantes:

Mi nombre es Andreina Franceschi. Es muy grato para mí compartir con ustedes lo que estaremos

realizando en este año escolar.

En el Salón de Arte los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de explorar, aprender y crear a través de la

aplicación de diferentes técnicas los elementos principales del arte (el punto, la línea, el

plano, la forma, la textura, el color) Para ello, estudiaremos e indagaremos en la obra de

distintos artistas como Paul Klee, Kandinsky y Miró en una primera etapa.

Después trabajaremos con los elementos de nuestro entorno. ¿Quién soy? ¿Cómo soy?

¿Qué observo?

Estos son los elementos del paisaje y la observación de lo que nos rodea y aquí nos detendremos a

mirar y dibujar el paisaje, y estudiaremos la Obra de Jacobo Borges de Paul Cezanne y Van Gogh.

Seurat, Lichtentenstein. Para esto utilizaremos distintas técnicas y acabados.

En la última etapa del año trabajaremos con el estudio del color y sus distintas expresiones y

revisaremos la obra de distintos artistas con distintas técnicas de pintar o aplicar el color y la

pintura como Jesús Soto, Pollock, Siqueiros, Helen Frankenthaler, Yves Klein.

Trabajaremos lo bidimensional y tridimensional y exploraremos diferentes materiales; respetando

siempre los gustos, deseos y creatividad de cada uno.

Esta clase brindará a los alumnos un espacio y la oportunidad de que se puedan expresar

libremente además de proporcionarles herramientas y conocimientos para su futuro.
