Dear Parents/Carers,
Highlight of the week has to be the performance at the Royal Albert Hall by our Choir.
A huge well done to all, especially to those in Y6 who have only just returned from their PGL School Journey! A massive thank you to Mrs Miller accompanied by 2 colleagues Miss Adams and Mrs Castle who have given up not
just this Sunday but hours of their free time preparing the children.
It was great to see a pupil Josh G on Timpani Drums for Herts Youth Orchestra and another ex-pupil Matthew D
who won Songwriter of the Year Award and performed it with his band.
Thank you also to Link Governor for Music and Vice Chair Julia Ellis-Hall for her company and enthusiasm as always.
An afternoon where I remembered what an honour it is to be Head Teacher of Howe Dell School!

STAFF NEWS We are saddened to say farewell to Ms Morrison who joined us as a trainee teacher and does a wonderful job as class teacher in Y2 and in leading Design and Technology. Nevertheless, we wish her every happiness as she relocates to Norfolk with her family at the end of the Summer Term. Likewise, Mrs Ewen who recently returned from her second maternity leave will also move on from her current Y4 job share with Miss Bogard, to work at a school closer to home. By doing this she can continue with her career whilst being a mummy to 2 very young children. We wish her all the best and thank her for her care of Reception pupil’s previously and providing such stability to her current class in Y4. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT MUSEUM We were invited by PC Paddy Phelan to visit de Havilland Aircraft Museum. We were given a tour of the museum and learnt many interesting facts about different planes used in WW2. In this photo, you can see a table that was originally used in Jeffery de Havilland's board meetings. This table is now being returned to Hatfield police station, (the tables’ original home) from the museum.
WORLD BOOK DAY, TELL ME A DRAGON INSPIRED BY JACKIE MORRIS’ AMAZING BOOK Thank you to all parents who have supported this event with amazing costumes on a fantasy theme, and for the contribution totalling £275.00. This will be spent on books for enhancing reading across the school. A huge thank you to Miss Christmas who once again did an amazing job at coordinating a day that was enjoyed by all. IMPORTANT: PLEASE TAKE NOTE REGARDING STUDY BUGS As of April 2020, we will no longer be using Study Bugs, as the cost of running the programme is not viable for the school to continue with. We have also had issues where parents have reported absence through the app and it has not transferred to our register. Therefore, after Easter, parents should ring the absence line by calling the usual school number and selecting option 1, or notify us via SchoolComms. Please ensure you leave your child’s name, class and the reason for their absence. PLAYSCHEME Bookings for Playscheme during the Easter holidays, June INSET day and Summer holidays are still available. You will find attached the forms that need to be completed and returned to the office as soon as possible, including the Extended Services registration form.
“So proud to be part of this project! Thanks to Curriculum Leaders for work on learning resource and for
Miss Adams for taking the children in my absence, due to School
Journey.” Mrs Massey
