St Eugenes Primary School Newsletter Friday 19th June 2020 Dear Parents and Carers, It was lovely to welcome Year 6 children back to school this week. They are settling back into their routines well; being very sensible about the new safety rules and enjoying their learning. Enjoy your weekend. Best wishes, Mrs Smith (Head of School) Go shine in the world and live as Jesus lived, with compassion, honesty and integrity! Our school website address: www.steugene.camden.sch.uk Inviting more pupils back to schoolWe would like to be able to invite all of the children back to school before the end of the summer term, but unfortunately under the current government guidance, this is not possible. The children whom the government have already invited back to school are in small groups of no more than 15 in every classroom or in the hall. Every single classroom is in use, as is the school hall. We therefore do not have any spare classrooms or the extra teaching staff needed to invite everyone else back. We are exploring ways that we might be able to invite some children from other year groups back to school before September. One of the ways we could do this is to fill the empty spaces currently in the Year 1 and Year 6 groups with children from other year groups to top up those groups to a maximum of 15 children in each group. We intend to start by inviting back children in Year 5 and Year 2 as they are closest in age to those children who are in Year 6 and Year 1. Some Year 5 children could join in the Year 6 groups and some Year 2 children could join the Year 1 groups. If your child is not yet back in school and is in one of those year groups, we will be contacting you about this next week. In the meantime, we have emailed you a letter if your child is in Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 or Year 5 about a keeping in touch visit. This letter is also on our website, Information for parents—Coronavirus information—Letter for Y2, 3, 4 & 5. As always, please give us a call if you have any queries or there is anything that we can help you with. Lara concentrating on her painting Prayer time Exercising in the hall

Inviting more pupils back to school… We would like to be able to invite all of the children back to school before the end of the summer term, but unfortunately under the current government guidance, this is not possible. Important dates for your diary… Friday 17th July– last day of school for pupils (revised date). Monday 20th July and Tuesday 21st July staff in school training days in preparation for returning in September 2020.

Our prayer… A prayer for the world God of love and hope, you made the world and care for all creation, But the world feels strange right now. The news is full of stories about Coronavirus. Some people are worried that they might get ill. Others are anxious for their family and friends. Be with them and help them to find peace. We pray for the doctors and nurses and scientists, And all who are working to discover the right medicines to help those who are ill. Thank you that even in these anxious times, you are with us. Help us to put our trust in you and keep us safe. Amen.

Our Year 6 children joined in the live streaming of Cardinal Nichol’s Mass for schools this week from Westminster Cathedral. They were thinking of us all in their prayers.

Work of the Week…

Every week a fantastic piece of children’s work is showcased in the school lobby (next to the office).

Luke (Year 1) has written an excellent character description, which has been chosen as Work of the Week. Year 1 have been reading the classic story; “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak; acting out the story to inspire their writing. Luke has thought very carefully about his description. Luke’s description of a “Wild Thing” includes lots of well chosen, exciting adjectives, which paint a picture for the reader. Luke is working hard on his letter formation and making his handwriting beautiful and clear.

Well done Luke, super writing!

Spanish phrase of the week… This week’s phrase is:

“Padre, hijo y espiritu santo.” which means: “Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” in English.
