Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our parent teacher interviews will be held in Week
8 of this term, we are currently in Week 6. This
term we are introducing 3 way interviews meaning
that your child will be involved as an active and
essential member of the interview. This will
provide them with the opportunity to demonstrate
understanding of their learning and celebrate their
achievements. This is an exciting change to the
traditional interview process. As parents you can
ask questions, express ideas and help make plans to
support your child’s learning at home and school.
Teachers will support students and parents by
clarifying, elaborating and responding to specific
questions and concerns. We ask that you bring
your child with you to the interview and we have
changed the duration of the interview to thirty
minutes. This will allow time for in depth
discussions to take place and transition time for
teachers between interviews. Classroom booking
sheets will be sent home this week.
SASS Week
This week we celebrate School Administration and
Support Staff (SASS) Week. I would like to
publicly thank Jenny, Monnica, Stuart,
Swaroopananda and David for their continual
support and dedication to Bemboka Public School.
We highly value your support and for always
going above and beyond to ensure our school is the
absolute best it can be. Thank you!!
Bemboka’s Got Talent
On Thursday September 26 we will be hosting
Bemboka’s Got Talent at school. There will be
prizes for everyone who wishes to audition for the
show. There is a time limit on each item to 3-4
minutes. Students are able to perform any act that
they wish to share. It could range from magic,
dance, music, science, drama and the list goes on.
More details of the event will be shared closer to
the event. Students need to start preparing and
practicing their act in the coming weeks in
preparation for our show.
STEM Project Firestorm
On Tuesday morning we welcomed Doug Reckord
from the Bournda Environmental Education
Centre to our school to work with students on our
STEM Project Firestorm. Doug spent the morning
with the whole school showing us how to use
MyMaps in our Google Education Suite and
Google Earth. It was a thoroughly engaging
morning and Doug had organised many different
activities for students to complete. We would like
to thank Doug for his ongoing support in our
project Firestorm and look forward to his support
as we progress further. Students have been
introduced to our essential question, ‘How would
the community of Bemboka prepare, survive and

recover from a catastrophic bushfire event?’ Next week
students will be able to select ‘prepare, survive or
recover’ as their focus and join other students in that
group to create something that can be used to share to
the Bemboka community. At our assembly in Week 10
Thursday September 26 we will be inviting all families
and community members to join us to view our final
product of Project Firestorm.
Do you have a passion for making movies??
We are after any family or community members who
might be able to volunteer their time to help us edit,
insert animations and pull together multiple video
snippets and make it into a movie. You will be
supporting us in our Project Firestorm movie making
which we will be showcased to our local and wider
community. For more information please ring the
school.
Professional Learning
Amongst our daily teaching and learning our teachers
have also been busily participating and scheduling
professional development to further build their capacity
and knowledge as a teacher. Jaimi, Jo and Christa will
be attending the Minds Wide Open learning
opportunity at Candelo Public School on Thursday Sep-
tember 19. They will be introduced to the Design Think-
ing process and the effects this can have on engaging
students further in their learning. Next week, Jaimi will
be attending a two day course in Batemans Bay to
further our journey with our Positive Behaviour for
Learning. This is our wellbeing framework which
relates to our values of Respect, Responsible and
Resilient. Jaimi will be away Tuesday and Wednesday
of next week. Over the last two weeks, I have attended a
Teaching Principals Conference at the University of
Canberra where the Eden- Monaro (our network),
Batemans Bay and Yass network came together to
acknowledge and further support the teaching
principals in these areas. It was a fantastic two days
where we discussed small school contexts, multi staged
classrooms and curriculum. Last week I attended a
Thought Leaders Conference in Sydney as part of the
Principal Induction Program. As I am a new permanent
principal to the Department of Education they provide
us with support and learning opportunities in the first
couple of years of our principalship. Earlier in the year
I attended the Principals Induction Conference where
they went through all the things that we need to know
and who to contact for support. The Thought Leaders
Conference last week provided the opportunity for
newly appointed principals to hear three well-known
and international educational speakers. It was a
fantastic 3 days where I had the opportunity to meet
and listen to Helen Timperley, Dylan Wiliams and
Simon Breakspear. At this stage my next conference in
Sydney as part of this Principal Induction program will
be in November. Continued over page……………...

Bemboka vs Candelo Soccer Game & Book Week Celebrations
Thank you to all our wonderful students who participated in our
Book Week celebration and those that played and cheered on our
soccer team. I would like to acknowledge our parents and
community members who were able to participate in these events
and to all those parents who organised such amazing costumes for
the students.
Pancake Brekky
On Wednesday September 18 we will be hosting another pancake
breakfast at school. The cost is $5 per person and it will start at 9am.
All families and community members are welcome to come down to
the school to enjoy our delicious pancake breakfast.
Stage 3 Camp
Next week, I will be attending the Stage 3 camp to Canberra from
Wednesday to Friday. This is a combined Small Schools Camp
where students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to meet other
students from our local small schools to help build friendships in
preparation for high school. Please remember that all students who
are attending the camp are required to have their school uniform
packed as it is required for our visit to Parliament House on
Thursday September 5.
Cricket Gala Day
Students in Stage 2 and 3 will be attending a cricket gala day in
Bega on Thursday September 12. Mrs Jo Collins and I will be
accompanying the students. Permission notes and more information
will be coming home shortly with students.
Water Bug Survey
All students will be participating in the waterbug survey on
Thursday September 19. A teacher from the Bournda
Environmental Education Centre will be supporting students down
at the creek to carry out the survey. On this day we suggest that the
students in Years 4,5,6 bring gumboots and spare change of clothes
as the senior students will be
collecting the bugs from the
river. Yours in Education
