Dear Mr. President(Pink)

Come take a walk with me.Let's pretend we're just two people And you're not better than me.I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep? What do you feel when you look in the mirror? Are you proud?

CHORUS:How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me in the eye and tell me why?

Dear Mr. President, were you a lonely boy?Are you a lonely boy?Are you a lonely boy?How can you say no child is left behind? We're not dumb and we're not blind. They're all sitting in your cellsWhile you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?I can only imagine what the first lady has to sayYou've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

CHORUS:How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard workMinimum wage with a baby on the wayLet me tell you 'bout hard workRebuilding your house after the bombs took them awayLet me tell you 'bout hard workBuilding a bed out of a cardboard boxLet me tell you 'bout hard workHard work, hard workYou don't know nothing 'bout hard workHard work, hard work, oh…

How do you sleep at night? How do you walk with your head held high?Dear Mr. President,You'd never take a walk with me.Would you?

The song is an open letter to then President of the United states, George W. Bush. The song criticizes several areas of Bush’s administration and terms in office, including the Iraq War, No Child Left Behind Act, disapproval of equal rights for homosexuals, lack of empathy for poor and middle class citizens, Bush’s strong religious beliefs, and Bush’s drinking and drug usage in college.

In mid 2013, there was a flood of demonstrations throughout the country. Such events reflect the population’s dissatisfaction regarding public services, the President’s incoherent administration and reports on the irresponsible usage of the public money, resulting in the neglecting of the poor and middle class’s needs.

AFTER LISTENINGIn small groups, list all the areas you think need to be improved in our country and then write a letter to the President addressing the issue. In the end, turn the letter into a song.
