The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Corpus Christi

The sojourn in the desert was Israel’s opportunity to become conscious of the vital and personal dimen-

sions of the covenant. In receiving the gift of manna, the people discover their true hunger which can be

satisfied only by the word of God. Moses said to the people: “Remember how the forty years now the Lord, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments. He therefore let you be af-flicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord. ”Remember. The Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery; who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its seraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers.”

Catechist Affirmation Nomination 2014

From Saint Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish

The nominee for Saint Therese Parish for 2014 is Diane Barajas. Diane was nominated by her fellow catechist. Diane teaches one of the First Communion Sacrament Classes for Grade 3. Diane is a most dedicated, faithful and active Catholic whose ministry involvement includes: Altar Server Ministry, Respect for Life Ministry, Choir, Fiesta Council, Legion of Mary, Pastoral Council and School advi-sory Council at Saint Therese Catholic School. Under her leadership with the demanding Sacramental Year of Grade 3 for the past three years which includes First Reconcilia-tion and First Communion, I have noted that the children she prepares are well taught and when it comes to the First Confession and First Communion Liturgies-they are per-fectly knowledgeable and extremely polished. The very fun Diane would also share this honor with her mother Rachel Barajas with whom she co-teaches. Rachel is also a woman of deep active faith and has a personality and countenance which exudes warmth and light. The regard that the mem-bers of the Parish and Catholic School Community show toward the Barajas Family is driven by Rachel’s personality whether it is an encounter with her Church Sacristy or working alongside her in the Concession Stand during School athletic events. I have witnessed her flexibility when considering changing the day of Legion of Mary meetings to accommodate a member who had a conflict of picking her son up from dialysis. Glorious Saint Therese Parish, The Shrine of the Little Flower congratulates Diane Barajas, a most faithful daughter of the Church.

Dear Parishioners Our Wonderful Pope Francis At a Mass in the Sanctae Marthae residence on April 11th, Pope Francis said that Satan exists and we must learn from the Gospel how to fight his temptations. The Pope said the life of every Christian is a constant battle against evil and warned that whoever wants to follow Jesus must be aware of this. “We [like Jesus] are tempted, we too are the tar-get of attacks by the Devil because the spirit of evil does not want our holiness…And what does the spirit of evil do, to distance us from the path of Jesus? The temptation of the Devil has three characteristics. First his

temptation begins gradually but us always growing. Sec-ondly, it infects another person, and seeks to be part of the community. And in the end, it justifies itself. That is, it grows; it spreads; and it justifies itself…here…even in the twenty-first century! We mustn’t be naïve!” Archbishop Wilton Gregory of the Atlanta Archdiocese apologizes and has addressed the scandal of the people of Atlanta outraged at the extravagance of his 2.2 million dollar retirement mansion in a high end Atlanta neighborhood. He has decided to sell it. It has been said that he needed a large space as he often has to entertain upwards of 300 people at events at his personal residence. You will be pleased and proud to know that the home which Archbishop Sheehan will retire to located at 3816 Alamogordo NW, Albuquerque 87120 (a few homes away from The Catholic Center) is much more modest in keeping with the vision and example of our dear Pope Francis who resides at a Retreat Center. Rest as-sured that Archbishop Sheehan will still have million dollar views as he looks down upon the Río Grande, it’s Bosque—the largest cottonwood forest in the world, the homes and city of his beloved holy People of God and the spectacular Sandia and Manzano Mountains. Good for you Archbishop Sheehan for not following the lead of your fellow bishops and their ex-travagances (follow the stories of the “Bishop of Bling” in Germany and the Archbishop of Newark, NJ). No wonder Pope Francis called this attitude in bishops—in their clerical-ism and careerism—in their privileges in treatment and com-forts as—“leprosy!”
