the curriculum; implementing school policy and processes within the department; supervising work assignments of faculty and staff; working with faculty to develop and implement plans for their teaching, research and creative work, and service; a large portion of time is spent serving as a member of our Council on Education for Public Health Accreditation (CEPH) Committee. Although there are many responsibilities serving as a member of the Accreditation Team, those that were directly related to my position as chair of the department were centered around developing and implementing the new CEPH foundational and concentration competencies for both the Doctor of Public Health Degree (DrPH) and the Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree programs along with updating all course syllabi with those competencies. Furthermore, while serving as chair, I have been able to maintain my own professional academic and research development, for example, writing research grants where I was recently awarded 5.2 M as the Principal Investigator of the Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center (funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the NIH/National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIH), while serving as the Principal Investigator of the NIH/NIMHD Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities.
