Mr Alton ArendseSHERQ Management Specialist
Alton Arendse is a SHERQ management specialist with more than 23 years experience within the Engineering, Manufacturing and Testing, Automotive, Food safety as well as the Oil and Gas industries. He has held several Senior Management positions within these industries and is a senior member within the American Society for Quality as well as advising regional member to the SAATCA Board of Directors. He provides a specialised service within the categories of SHEQ management transformation systems i.e. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, etc. in terms of implementing organisational best practices based on sound quality principles, adopting a risk-based thinking approach and value adding product, process and system audit techniques. Alton holds a B-Tech within Quality Engineering, recognised Quality Engineer through the City & Guilds of London as well as an Executive and Leadership development qualification through recognised International Business Schools.

Ms Cynthia MamatelaRadiation Control Officer at University of Pretoria
Cynthia qualified in both Diagnostic Radiography and Nuclear Medicine from University of Johannesburg (Former Technikon Witwatersrand). She worked in a clinical set up as a Diagnostic Radiographer for seven years and as a Nuclear Medicine technologist for three years. Worked as a Radiation Inspector for Department of Health: Radiation Control for 9 years; ensuring that licence holders and authority holders comply with the Hazardous Substances Act, Act 15 of 1973; and the Regulations for Group III and IV Hazardous Substances and Conditions attached to their licences and authorities. Currently employed as a Radiation Control Officer for the University of Pretoria; ensuring that the university complies with the Act, the relevant Regulations, Licence/Authority Conditions.

Mr Stephan JuliusFounder and Managing Member of Frontline SHEQ
Stephan Julius is the founder and Managing Member of Frontline SHEQ. He has 25 years’ experience in Manufacturing, Corporate and Government SHE Systems. He has also been appointed as the Health and Safety Agent at Cape Town Soccer Stadium 2010 and all related works. He has conducted various Presentations on the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 61 of 1997. Stephan also has numerous Publications on the changes in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Implications. He received his Professional Registration with the SACPCMP as a Health and Safety Agent in 2014. Stephan was awarded the Prestigious Absa/Wecbof Business Person of the Year in 2009. Stephan holds a National Certificate in Safety Management at UNISA.

Ms Hettie Wentzel and Ms Marilldene GuercioLibrary Quality Assurance, University of Johannesburg (UJ)
Hettie Wentzel and Marilldene Guercio both work at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Library. Hettie’s career at UJ began in the Human Resource department where she worked for 21 years before moving to the Library, her home for the last six years. Marilldene obtained her degree from UJ in 2006 and thereafter she went on to work in the Library. After years of working together they developed their shared passion for matters relating to health and safety. They realised early on that the success of any health and safety or risk mitigating strategy depends on being passionate about people first. Their role is to obtain and maintain compliance throughout the five UJ Libraries through the implementation of initiatives (which they have had a tenacious grip on). Collaborating with the UJ Occupational Safety department they have implemented several encouraging safety practices within their environments and through staff participation.

Michael is the Chief: Sales and Marketing at The Green-Co. Before joining The Green-Co, he worked at Vodacom, firstly as Executive Head of Sales in 2001, then Corporate Sales Director in 2004 and eventually as Managing Executive of Vodacom Business in 2007. Michael holds an International Graduate Diploma in Marketing and AEDP from the University of SA. Michael is an active member of the business community and held the position of Principal Officer of the Vodacom Group Provident and Pension Fund and has a keen interests in social responsibility programmes and the development of managerial talent. Michael has consulted and advised major companies like Netsurit Exco team and Liquid Telecom who purchased Neotel South Africa.

Mr Ruben Els Management Consultant at Marsh Risk Consulting
Ruben Els is currently employed as a Managing Consultant with Marsh Risk Consulting. In his capacity, he manages a number of corporate client accounts within the Property Risk Division which includes TERISA. In addition he consults as a specialist for high level fire related enquiries and provides assistance and support relating to Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental and Risk related enquiries and services offered by this division. Ruben holds an Associate Diploma in Fire Technology (SAESI) and an Ambulance emergency attendant (Level 6). He completed the Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau design course and also all the FSIB fire alarm and detection and gas suppression systems courses. Ruben holds more than 18 years of fire and risk consulting experience and specialises in fire investigations, fire training and can provide advice on all fire related enquiries such as legal assessments, rational designs, plans approval, provision of fire equipment, means of escape, emergency planning etc.

Prof. Tyrone Pretorius Vice-Chancellor and Principal, University of the Western Cape (UWC)
Prof. Tyrone Pretorius is currently the Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Western Cape. He was previously the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Pretoria responsible for Teaching and Learning, all faculties of the University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, Resource Allocation and Institutional Planning. Prior to his appointment at the University of Pretoria he was the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash South Africa, a campus of Monash University, Australia. Before joining Monash, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and spent 10 years as Dean of Community and Health Sciences at UWC. With a background in psychology, he holds two doctorates, one from the University of the Western Cape and one from the University of the Free State. In addition he is a past fellow of the Yale University Southern Africa Fellowship Programme and also participated in the Oxford University Leadership programme.

Mr. Neels NortjeChief Executive Officer: South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health - SAIOSH
Neels started his working career with ESKOM in 1981 where he qualified as an Architectural Draughtsman. In 1986 he changed his focus to Safety Risk Management and qualified with ESKOM as an Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management Officer. He holds a N6 Mechanical and Electrical Engineering qualification as well as a National Diploma in Safety Management. He has been practicing Occupational Health and Safety for the past 30 years. He was appointed by the Minister of Labour to serve on the Minister’s Advisory Council for Occupational Health and Safety (ACOHS). He is a Chartered Member of Saiosh (CMSaiosh) and a Chartered Member of IOSH UK (CMIOSH)
