    WINDWARD ISLANDS EVANGELISM Is a multi faceted program dedicated to evangelism of theEnglish speaking Caribbean/West Indies through West Indian Christians. Both the Muters and theRobertsons have lived in three West Indian cultures Jamaica St. Lucia and St. Vincent their presenthome. This experience has convinced them that the WestIndian church is the best means of evangelizing the Caribbean peoples but they are sadly lacking in trained leadership and the necessary trainingopportunities and materials. The program In general consists of the foilowing ministries;

    WINDWARD ISLANDS SCHOOL OF EVANGELISM in Arnos Vale St. Vincent. A Bible collegeDESIGNED FOR the West Indies and LOCATED IN t he Wes t Indies results in more t rained leadersreturning to their own culture to work for the Lord.

    New church evengellsm. The present effort Arnos Vale Church of Christ St. Vincent is nowmeeting with approximately 80 to 1 people in attendance. Black River Church of Christ Jamaicanow has a WISE graduate as minister and Is stabilizing and growing. BOTH CHURCHES are indesperate need of a building to enhance growth and development. BOTH have students in training atWISE

    Established church assistance. Curriculum materials both VBS and Sunday School are providedfor at least fifteen churches In the three countries. We encourage and assist with these programs wherepossible provide leadership trainingwhen requested and assist financially in occasional circumstances. Opening of new fieldsand areas of work. Recruitment of students from countries without churchesof Christ in the true New Testament pattern is underway; foundational work for new church establishment in Jamaica is also being undertaken with Vincent Graham. Graduates of WISE provide potentialfor such work not previously possible.

    n

    The Windward Islands School of Evangelism is the Caribbean/West indies' own BibleCollege for Christian young people. t is a iwo-year, five-term, specially designed program toprovide trained leaders for West Indian churches andevangelistic efforts. The School (see picture, top left) islocatedon the island of St. Vincent, a short hop from Barbados.

    The 23 students of Spring term. 1983, came from Jamaica,Guyana and St. Vincent, and represented twelve differentchurches. (See picture, middle left.) All come with the recommendation of their church leaders and with a deep desire toknow God and to be able to l ead o ther s to Him. Most have acommitment to return to their home churches to minister, andothers desire to work to establish Christ s church where it hasnot yet been introduced.

    The curriculum of the School s designed forcompletestudyof God's Word, as well as methods of communicating it toothers. nglish has recently been added to ill an importantneed. During the course of study, opportunity to 'practice'these skills s available in the loc l church and occasionallythrough internship with a church in another country of theWest Indies.

    Fellowship is precious at WISE, as we live together in thedorms, share in the special events of the church, such as theSweethearts' Banquet (this year FOUR WISE engagementswere announced ) , a s well as the annual PREACHING ANDTEACHING CONFERENCE of th e School. And the re are th eFriday night socials and Sunday noon meals for students andfaculty together.

    The faculty of WISE consists of: (It. tort., lower left): SimeonNorton, Jeff and Jane Robertson, Pearl Dobson, Jackie andBob Muter .

    A W O R D ABOUT G O D S P R O V I S I O N . . ,God s work, done In God s way, will neverlack God s provision.' This principle was mis

    sionary great J. Hudson Taylor's assurancewhen, through pleas to God alone, the ChinaInland Mission sustained nearly 2,000 missionaries in China. As you who receive our Newsletters know, our communications seldom mention financial needs except as prayer subjects, forwe. too, believe that God must be the motivatorand director of those whom He would have givefor this work, just as He is for those of us whoserve here physically. This makes us partnerstogether with God and also brings us together inspirit in the more important support need-prayer. It also makes GOD the one who determines the budget and not ourselves.

    As His work here has grown to such proportions, it is more tempting to remind you of ourneeds. However, God reminds US that He hasnever failed us, though at times He has asked usto forego some of our salary, or equipment, ormaterials that would make it easier. This, ofcourse, makes the blessing so much greaterwhen a major unexpected need is met BEFOREwe knew it would arise. We know those whoresponded to God for these kinds of circumstances have been similarlyblessed. And for youwho have been faithful suppliers for God in Hiswork here, we can only thank and praise Himconstantly.

    Hank and Pat DavisFor some time now we have been convicted of

    the need for a more aggressive approach towardcountries o f the Caribbean where t he chu rch oChrist needs to be introduced. We need also tobe able to spend more time advising and encouraging graduates in their early years ofministry. This has been Impossible because odie lack of sufficient personnel to teach andminister locally. Therefore, when HANK andPAT DAVIS chose to serve the Lord in dieWindward Islands Evangelism ministries, we rejoiced

    Hank and Pat plan to join us in late 1984upon completion of their degrees at KentuckyChristian College, and the provision by the Lordof those who w supply their needs as theyminister here. They are mature Christians withmuch church experience and have a real desireand motivation to serve the Lord in the West Indies. They have served with us for a summerand a re awa re of the n ee ds as well as the cultureinto which they are projecting themselves. Praywith us for them as they seek His support fortheir ministryhere. They may be reached at thei'college address:

While they couldno t remain in Jamaica they fe l t they could not leave the overon e hundred new Christians a t the Black River Church withoutleadership. So se ttling on th e island of St. Lucia the Mutersand th e Robertsons began th e f i rs t class of what has become knownas W.I.S.E. th e Windward. Islands School of Evangelism.
