David Lloyd Glover, a modern impressionist painter, was born in 1949 in Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Vancouver Island, the most westerly of the British colonies and respectful of its English traditions, is known throughout the area as the "City of Gardens." Many of Canada's great painters were cultivated in Victoria including Brian Travers Smith, Harry Heine, J. Fenwick Lansdowne and Emily Carr. Mr. Glover's creative lineage includes his two uncles: Guy Glover, an actor, film producer and head of the National Film Board of Canada, and Norman MacLaren, the world-renowned film artist, animator and painter. David's talent for drawing and painting surfaced early and with such strong family influence, his abilities flourished. He spent his childhood at Royal Roads Hatley Castle, formerly the baronial estate of Sir Robert Dunsmuir and home of the Royal Roads Military College. Surrounded by a palatial 15th-century style castle, traditional Japanese, English and Italian gardens and the stunning natural beauty of British Columbia's seacoast, his interest in landscape and architecture was born and his sensitivity to the relationship between man and nature was nurtured.

In 1969, he was offered the role of editorial illustrator for the Victoria Times. Two years later, he was promoted to cartoonist, making him the youngest political satirist in Canada. His professional accomplishments expanded to newspaper and magazine illustrations, graphic design, art direction and the founding of an award winning, fully accredited advertising agency in 1974, now one of Canada's largest firms. In the 1980's, Mr. Glover returned to his love of painting and began working with watercolors, in the difficult but pure style of British artists. His reputation as an outstanding technician of this medium brought him gallery exposure and representation, which led to an impressive following of art collectors from all over the world. In the early 1990's, he changed to oil on canvas, influenced by the great works of French Impressionism. He mastered this medium as he had mastered watercolors, and the demand for his oil paintings is even greater than his achievements in watercolor.

In 1958, at the age of nine, he won a citywide-juried painting exhibition, which led to an invitation from the Public Art Gallery of Victoria to study with painters and sculptors twice his age. By 1964 he had amassed an outstanding portfolio of abstract oils, and at 14, was accepted into the Vancouver School of Art.
