The planning for this event began several months ago and has involved a huge commitment from everyone involved. I would like to congratulate the 5/6 teachers and mentors who have guided, encouraged and assisted the students through this process. In particular I would like to acknowledge the outstanding leadership of Jeff McDonald; our PYP Coordinator who has been instrumental in ensuring the exhibition journey fulfils the expectations of the Internationale Baccalaureate Organisation. More importantly however, is the significant role he has played in empowering our students to be active participants in their investigations. Significantly, this year many students have already taken some action as a result of a change in their thinking. Thank you also to the parents who have taken the time to not only visit the exhibition but also to support their children over these weeks - our students and teachers really appreciate your interest. Acting Principal’s Message

Congratulations Year 6 Students We are all immensely proud of every one of our terrific 57 year 6 students who over the last 8 weeks have undertaken an in depth collaborative inquiry incorporating the essential elements of the PYP. The culmination of this process, the exhibition itself is a huge achievement and those of us who have had the opportunity of visiting the exhibition space have been amazed not only by the visual presentations but also by the knowledgeable and insightful discussions we have had with the students.

“Once Upon A Time” Production Update Please note ticket information has gone out to the school community via the newsletter. There appears to be some confusion regarding performance nights. So to clarify, as in past years, all students in the production are expected to attend the production on both nights. Six students are sharing a small role, however they still need to be there on both Tuesday and Thursday nights. We will inform parents directly if this applies to their children. Opening the back gates School Council has suggested that we open the back gates at the end of the oval 15 minutes before and after school. The idea is to reduce the need for children coming through the park to then have to cross either Bishop or Julian Street to enter school. We will trial this through term 4, firstly to see if it can be sustained and also to monitor its use. A staff member will lock and unlock the gates each day. School Term Dates 2014 Please note commercial calendars and diaries may list the first day of Term 1, 2014 in Victorian Government schools for next year as Tuesday 28

th

January. Day 1 however, is a student free day and students begin school in 2014 on

Chemical Collaborations

at Gilmore Girls College Over four sessions this term and last term, 21 Science-loving students from Kingsville Primary School (3-6) and Yarraville West Primary School (P-6) travelled to Gilmore Girls College in Footscray to further explore the chemical sciences – atoms, chemical bonding and the periodic table of elements. The combination of the vertical grouping of the students (P-6), the networking of like-minded students across two schools, the exemplary physical facilities at Gilmore Girls College and the vision of the school’s Science teacher, Lachlan McOmish, resulted in exciting learning experiences for all. We are looking forward to further developing our relationships across both of the Primary Schools and to continue this opportunity with Gilmore Girls College in 2014. Estelle Pizer Leading Teacher

Fundraising News Fundraising events in Term 4! We had our first event for term 4 – the very successful fete. It takes a lot of people to make something like this happen and thanks again to all who helped. We will be having the school disco in late November – date to be confirmed. I know the kids look forward to this. There will also be an icy pole day in December plus the cake stall at the Kingsville Carols and the Christmas Raffle.

Fundraising Opportunity - Aussie Farmers Direct A reminder to those families who use Aussie Farmers Direct, that you can now nominate to have 2% of your spend come back to the school. A number of Kingsville families have linked their accounts to Kingsville PS which all contributes to our fundraising total. To set it up - go online and tag yourself to the school. For those that don't know of Aussie Farmers Direct, they deliver fresh milk, bread, veggies, meat and more. Their website is: www.aussiefarmers.com.au If you can help on any future events – even if only for an hour – please contact Liz Reinoga on 0424 158 532 or [email protected]. Any help is appreciated.
